Instructional Guide forNeoGripNeedle DriverTheNeoGripNeedle Driver is designed to work with the surgeons hands for improved grip, balance andefcient maneuvering within the surgical site. This instructional guide illustrates how to use the NeoGripNeedle Driver as well as how to lock and unlock the instrument. TheNeoGriphandle is designed to workergonomically with the surgeons hand and wrist to reduce muscle fatigue and cramps.

Gripping the Needle Driver

TheNeoGripNeedle Driver is designed to be held in a palm grip but can be manuevered into other gripsincluding a pencil grip easily (for instructions on grips, please review our instructional guide on grippingthe instrument).

To use a palm grip, the Needle Driver isplaced into the palm of the surgeons

hand. The 4th and 5th digits are wrappedaround the handle to provide stability. Theother handle is placed against the base

of the thumb for locking and unlocking

the instrument.

TheNeoGripNeedle Driver has a spring thatopens the jaws of the needle driver whenthe ratchet is unlocked as demonstrated inthe image to the right. The spring action of

the needle driver makes grasping a sutureneedle easier and provides efciency andstability when suturing a wound.

Locking and Unlocking of the Needle Driver

TheNeoGrip Needle Driver has a quickrelease ratchet for easy locking andunlocking of the instrument. The quickrelease ratchet allows the surgeon to

unlock the instrument by squeezing thetwo shanks together.

The quick release ratchet ismodifed so when the shanks

are squeezed together theinstrument unlocks.

When unlocking the instrument, the baseof the thumb presses rmly against thehandle bringing the shanks together until

the locking mechanism releases. Thethird groove of the ratchet is designedto unlock the instrument automatically.Once the instrument is unlocked, it will

open due to the spring between theshanks which resets the needle driver foranother throw.

Basics of Suturing with theNeoGripNeedle Driver

1.) In making the rst throw of a

basic suture, the needle driver holds theneedle at the tip of the instrument. The

surgeons wrist and hand is holding theneedle driver with a palm grip to makethe throw in this demonstration.

2.) The wrist and hand are turned in a

tight, stable rotation to make the throw.

There are many advantages to using theNeoGripNeedle Driver. In this basic demonstration ofsuturing it can be seen that theNeoGripNeedle Driver can turn in tight spaces, maintain a stable turnand work efciently to improve the procedure.

3.) The two shanks are squeezed to-

gether by the thumb on one handle andthe fourth and fth digits on the otherhandle. The shanks open due to the

spring between the shanks and is readyto grab the needle again.

4.) The needle driver pulls the needlethrough to set for another throw.

5.) The needle has been grasped by thetip of the needle driver and is ready tomake another throw.

6.) The surgeon turns the wrist and handto push the needle through to completethe throw.

8.) The needle driver pulls the needle

through to set for another throw. Thisprocess is repeated until the wound is

closed.
