provider of logistic solutions for shipping and storage containers in Saudi Arabia, and a mission to provide innovative and cost effective solutions to the company’s clients, shareholders and employees.
Located at King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), Defaf offers integrated and flexible logistics for shipping lines and shippers of all sizes. Its services include transporting, repairing and storing of shipping containers, in addition to warehousing services for dry, cold and frozen storage. In addition to providing machine rentals, Defaf provides exporting as well as petrochemicals storage.

About Defaf’s General Manager
Eng. Basem Al-sharif has a bachelor’s degree in architecture and planning from King Faisal University in Dhahran. Before working with Nesma, Al-sharif worked in several Saudi companies including Saudi Telecom Company, Saudi Diesel Equipment and several other constructions companies.
On the personal side, Al-sharif is interested in community service and charity work. He is a member of different general assemblies of charities in Jeddah, including Albir Society, Almawaddah Society for Family Development and Zamzam Society for Voluntary Health Services.

The company also offers door-to-door services by transferring, storing and distributing containers to various customer locations and warehouses.
Defaf also has an advanced system that maintains and manages the company’s storage and trucks. The system identifies and evaluates key areas of risk and safeguarding assets in order to reduce common issues experienced by other carriers, such as: delays, hijacking, lack of inventory, security issues and poor warehouse services. The system also is able to monitor Defaf’s facilities as well as inventory.

NW&E Featured in MENAFNNesma was featured in the Middle East North Africa Financial Network (MENAFN) for working on the Industrial Valley project valued at SAR 80 million.
According to MENAFN’s online news portal, “King Abdullah Economic City has inked a deal with Nesma Water & Energy in order to develop the third phase-C of the Industrial Valley. Currently, the firm will design and build the core infrastructure for the phase, involving a comprehensive water system covering fresh water supply, sewage and drainage.”
It is worth mentioning that, the Industrial Valley Phase 3 phase C Infrastructure Works project is one of the largest infrastructure contracts offered to date by King Abdullah Economic City.
To become the project’s main engineering, procurement and construction contractor, Nesma Water & Energy (NW&E) competed against some of the largest names in the industry and secured the award by offering advantages in quality, cost and a trusted reputation.
NW&E plans to complete the project within 500 days.

Nesma TATA Wins First EPC ProjectNesma TATA Projects, a joint venture between Nesma Telecom & Technology and TATA Projects of India, has secured its first engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to construct a double circuit 380 kV over head transmission line for MARAFIQ, a power and water utility company for both Jubail and Yanbu. The contract, valued at SAR 41 million, is expected to be completed in 24 months.
Nesma TATA was formed in 2015, when Nesma Electric signed a memorandum of understanding with TATA Projects, one of the fastest growing infrastructure companies in India, to execute projects in the Saudi Arabian power sector.
NT&T Wins MARAFIQ ContractAn EPC contract was awarded to Nesma Telecom & Technology by MARAFIQ, the power and water utility company for Jubail and Yanbu.The contract will have a 24-month duration.
Valued at SAR 128 million, the scope of this contract includes the extension of 380 kV gas-insulated switchgear at a 380 /115kV substation with a strategic sustainability performance plan.

Nesma Holding IT Takes PeopleEdge LiveNesma Holding IT has launched Nesma PeopleEdge, a Human Resource Managment System (HRMS) application developed on a cloud platform by Nesma Holding’s IT team. PeopleEdge has been live for several months and is expected to be implemented by Nesma Group Companies.

Namma Shipping Lines’ vessels “Mahabbah” and “Mawaddah” have successfully transported a total of 15,000 pilgrims from Sudan during this year’s Hajj season.
The Corporate Finance Manager for Nesma Holding, Mohammed Iqbal Khan, has been a member of the Nesma family for 25 years.
His career path at Nesma began, straight
out of graduate school, with an accounting position in 1992. Since then, Iqbal has steadily grown with the company and been given increasing responsibility as he moved from his initial position as an accountant up to his current position. Along the way, Iqbal completed additional courses in finance and management at universities such as Mumbai University, INSEAD, Oxford and Harvard.
FACES OF NESMA
In his current role, Iqbal is responsible for supervising accounts, the consolidation of accounts, coordinating with external auditors and for reporting to upper management. In addition, he sits on the board of directors for several Nesma Group companies.
Iqbal reports that his work experience at Nesma has shaped and developed his leadership and management skills. He plans to continue along the same path, growing with the company and honing his skills.
In his free time, Iqbal loves reading and watching movies, but his favorite pastime is being with his 10-year old son.

Construction Contracts Management Course with LEORON
Nesma & Partners’ Training & Development team conducted a construction contracts management course with LEORON, a professional development institute that offers training solutions in strategic corporate functions.
This 5-day workshop provided the attendees with practical information to understand different commercial models of commencing a new contract, implementing contract management strategies, and applying performance-monitoring methods.
Value Added Tax (VAT)Workshop at Nesma HoldingAt a recent workshop offered by Nesma Holding, finance employees learned about the soon-to-be imposed VAT, or Value Added Tax.
The workshop was presented by Al-Rikaz Tax & Zakat Consultants. Al-Rikaz explained the tax and discussed its impact on revenue, pricing, and record keeping along with practical strategies for planning for its implementation.
VAT is a new 5% tax which is expected to go into effect as of January 1st, 2018 and will be imposed at each stage of the supply chain from production and distribution to the final sale of the product or service.

Nesma Holding Policies Workshop for NT&T
Employees from Nesma Telecom & Technology attended a Nesma Holding HR Policies workshop presented by Housam Basha, NT&T’s HR Manager.
The one-day workshop was attended by eight employees, and covered HR topics in recruitment, documentation and employee on-boarding.
Business Ethics at Nesma Holding
A 2-days Business Ethics training was held at Nesma Training Center in Jeddah.
“Ideas group” presented the training sessions with the aim of empowering Nesma’s management team in understanding the company’s ethics, policies and procedures.
Nesma Holding is in the final stages of launching an updated business ethics policy as part of its Human Resources Policies and Procedures Manual.The business ethics policy is one of several initiatives to strengthen and reinforce the Nesma brand and to confirm the company’s commitment to corporate governance and to the highest ethical standards.

SANG Project 4th Outdoor Tournament Awards
Congratulations to Nesma Holdings champion basketball team, winner of the SANG Project 4th Outdoor Tournament and to Nesma Catering, Jeddah, the runners-up. A total of 14 teams participated in the tournament.
Congratulations also to Nesma Catering KAAR Shumaisy team, champions of the volleyball portion of the tournament and to runners-up, SANG Nesma Catering team.
Future activities in Al Khobar will include the KAAR Project 2nd Indoor Tournament (table tennis, dart league, chess league and billiard 8-ball league) coming this December.
This tournament will be open to all Nesma employees and any other nearby subcontracting companies who would like to participate.

Hejazi Celebration at Nesma Holding Nesma Airlines and Nesma Holding employees gathered for breakfast to celebrate “Eid al-Adha”, the annual holiday celebrated by Muslims throughout the world at the end of the annual pilgrimage to Makkah (Hajj).
The breakfast contains well-known traditional dishes from the local Hejazi cuisine like foul and felafel.
