Field teams used to photograph Nestlé products

in supermarkets using digital cameras to capture how they

were presented. The images were saved on to SD cards

and gathered for quarterly team meetings. The

information reviewed was out-of-date, hard to find, fragmented

and unreliable.

NESTLÉ’S CHALLENGE AND OUR SOLUTION

Our custom .NET solution, with a Windows Mobile

and an iOS app., allowed Nestle’s team to take photos

in-store. The photos were mapped against Google maps to

provide a view of an aisle and the Share of Shelf was calculated.

As Nestlé’s field sales operations is a complex practice, we spent time analysing the process step-by-step, through interviews, in-store visits and time & motion studies. We concluded that we needed to emulate Google’s Street View inside stores. We created a prototype that was tested in the field and all input was fed back into our production process.
