Wildlife Art comes alive at GordaleTHREE days of inspiring demonstrations by

award-winning artists will launch this years

National Exhibition of Wildlife Art (NEWA) at

the Gordale garden centre.The UKs most published ine artist, PollyAnna

Pickering, will be just one of the stars of NEWAs

Wildlife Weekend running from 13th to 15th July.

Neston Ladies Day takes place on Thursday 7th June. The day coincides with half

term so the entire town centre (High Street, and tops of Parkgateand Brook street) will

be closed from 2 6pm, but trafc will be able to get into Sainsburys from the

bottom of Brook Street. Organisers are hoping to create a carnival atmosphere withstreet entertainers, hog roast, face painting, bouncy castle and outdoor seating.

Year 5 and 6 children at Parkgate Primary School designed panels for a dress for

the Queen. They used photographs of Parkgate to create diamonds in black and

white to decorate the dress for a giant Queen as part of a CAN project with local

schools. This giant will be at many local events including Neston Jubilee BigLunch, Chester Giants Parade and Neston Ladies Day.

Your chance to shape the uture o the townNESTON has been chosen to have front runner status in the development of a

neighbourhood plan.

This means that the town will get some government funding and allow the local

community to shape the future of the town.

One of the requirements of a neighbourhoodplan is that the community are engaged as

widely as possible in drawing up the plan and

the nal document will be subject to review by

a government inspector and then a referendum

in the town. It is also a requirement that our

neighbourhood plan is in line with the CWaC

Local Development plan being drawn up by

Cheshire West for the whole borough. Any future

planning applications will be judged against both

documents.To start the process the town council will be holding a launch event in the Town Hall on

Friday 15th June from 10am to 8pm to give the general public the chance to submit their

views, meet councillors, volunteer to assist and review the data we hold on the town.

The next step will be to set up a number of task groups to study various aspects of the

plan. It is planned to set up these task groups at a meeting in the United Reformed

Church hall in Moorside Lane at 7.30pm on Thursday 21st June.

What w wantPEOPLE in Neston want to see more owers and buses. Those are two of the

outcomes of a survey carried out at the recent Health & Wellbeing Day at Neston

Community & Youth Centre.

Neston Town Council says it is already acting on some of these requests, including

a greening of Neston project over a number of months and, in partnership with other

local bodies, has committed some of the Sainsburys funds to upgrade lamp-posts in

the town centre to a heritage style, including brackets for hanging baskets.

Many people stated they were unhappy with local bus services. Councillors are on

the newly formed CH64 Transport Group which is looking into the development of a

number of improvements.

Comments were made about the town centre (empty shops, general untidiness,

messy pavements), which the council hopes to address.

reckoned with when they brought home 13 medals from the Inter Squadron

Athletics Competition held at The Oval, Bebington. The winners progressed to

the Inter Wing Competition, representing Merseyside.

recent Neston Health and Wellbeing Event.The group meet on the rst and third

Tuesdays of the month from 1.45 to 4pm in the

Church Hall. They have knitted jumpers and

cardigans for Haiti, cardigans for Arrowe Park

maternity ward and vests for children in The

Congo. They are at present knitting hats for

Fishermen. Everyone is welcome.

The last couple of months have been busy for the Neston Riverside WI. There have

been talks by Peter Cunnington on China, off the beaten track and Peter Nicholson

on the history of Gordale, walks through Chester Meadows , meals at The Grange in

Thornton Hough and a fundraising coffee morning.

Despite all of these activities they have still

managed to launch their website which can be found

at www.nestonriversidewi.co.uk.

One event that has been missing is our Keep Fit

Club but this has started again at the Methodist

Church Hall, Mellock Lane, and Little Neston every

Tuesday Evening 6-7pm. The classes are aimed

at all levels of tness and ability and uses Medau

movement. All you need to take part is some

comfortable clothes and maybe a drink of water to keep you hydrated and dont forget

The ladies celebrated their 30th birthday in April at the Woodcote Hotel, in Hooton. The

inaugural meeting was held back in February 1982 in Ness Gardens, when more than

60 people attended, two of whom are still members today, Barbara Hulme and Cherry

Agass. The resolutions meeting took place in May,concerning the chronic shortage of midwives. There

was also a mini-show about craft and photography.

The external judges, after much deliberation

selected the craft work of Gaynor Leidecker and the

photography of Cathy Norris as winners.

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 1th

June and will include a talk on the Vikings of Wirral

by Linda Raee.

Meetings are held in St Michaels Church,

Winefrides Catholic Primary

School were lucky enough

to have a very special guestcome into their school to tell

them all about the Titanic

disaster. It was none other

than Captain Smith himself

- the captain of the ill-fated

vessel!

Of course it wasnt really

Captain Smith it was Mike

Ellis from the West Kirby Light

Operatic Society (WKLOS).The company will soon be performing Titanic the Musical in the Liverpool Empire and

Mr. Ellis will be playing Captain Smith from the ship of dreams in the musical.

He shared stories, facts and artefacts with the children and also allowed them to wear

some of the props from the musical such as ladies hats and life jackets.

During Captain Smiths visit, it was also discovered that one of the children was

actually a distant relative of Millvina Dean, the youngest passenger and the longest

living survivor of the luxury liner.

safety play after working with a

theatre company.Cheshire West and Chester

Councils Safe and Sustainable

Travel Team funded the Play

in a Day at the Burton Road

school.

The play containing the

road safety message was

then presented to the whole

school, parents, Council Road

Safety Ofcers and a PoliceCommunity Support Ofcer.

Film-makers move into 10th yearwith work on local movieIT has been a busy time for Neston-based Chat Noir Productions, with multi-camera

HD shoots in two of Merseysides most stunning church buildings.

They recorded the dedication of St Peter & Pauls in New Brighton, which was closed

in 2008 but has now been reopened as The Shrine Church of Ss Peter & Paul &

Philomena.

Chat Noir Productions was commissioned by SOUL to produce a DVD of the event,

which will be sold worldwide.

Later in the day they were lming once

again, this time across the water at the

Anglican Cathedral of Liverpool.

Tribute to Titanic featuring the Liverpool

Welsh Choral Society, formed part of

the citys centenary remembrances,

commemorating the loss of so many lives

on the ill-fated voyage.

2012 is proving to be a busy year for Chat

Noir, producing videos for The NationalWaterways Museum in Ellesmere Port,

KGV College in Southport, a second video

for The Lantern Project based in New

Brighton, as well as video and graphics

work for a major UK DVD label.

With work starting on a second feature

lm project (set and lmed locally) and

Chat Noir offering a wider range of

services to clients small and large, the

company is moving into its 10th year instyle.
