NetBackup 5200 Series Command Reference Guide The NetBackup 5200 Series Command Reference Guide contains detailed information about the NetBackup appliance commands that you can run from the NetBackup appliance shell menu. Each command contains a brief description of the primary function of the command, a synopsis, and descriptions of each of the options listed in the synopsis. The NetBackup appliance shell menu is an interactive shell that is available on the 52xx appliances through SSH. This menu interface enables you to perform most of the administration functions that are necessary to administer a NetBackup 5200 series appliance.

Introduction
The NetBackup 5220 is an integrated high-density, high-performance backup appliance. It encapsulates network backup needs. The unit is easy to install and manage. It is a scalable appliance with an internal capacity of 4.5 TB formatted capacity and the ability to add another 24 TB with 2 TB disks or 36 TB with 3 TB disks of external storage via the Symantec Storage Shelf, a disk expansion unit. The NetBackup 5220 enclosure is 2U high and the Symantec Storage Shelf enclosure is 3U high. Both devices fit into standard 19” racks.
Some components of both devices are hot-swappable; they can be removed and replaced without powering down either device. Other components are not hot-swappable; they require powering down of the entire system and devices. Refer to the NetBackup 5220 and Symantec Storage Shelf Hardware Troubleshooting Guide for detailed lists of hot-swappable and non-hot-swappable components.

Disk drive features The disk drives have the following features:
The OS of the NetBackup 5220 is installed on system disks that are not hot-swappable.
The disk in slot 7 of the drive is designated as the spare disk. If a disk in slot 0 through 6 fails or is removed, the spare disk contains backed up data.
Provide storage capacity The NetBackup 5220 can provide storage capacity for storing other data besides the system data on the system disks. Except for the system disks and hot spare disks, all other disks are data disks and provide storage capacity.
When data is being read or written on disks, do not power off the device by turning off the power. Otherwise, the disks data may be damaged.
To power off the device correctly, stop reading and writing data on the disks first. Then send a shutdown command through the OS.
Disk module LEDs One disk inside a carrier defines the “Disk Module.” There are two LEDs on each disk module. One LED indicates disk status. The other LED indicates Power and/or Activity.

RJ11 serial Connect the DB9 end of the serial data cable to a serial port on your Windows PC or management device.
SAS IN Connect the RAID connector one end of the SAS cable to the SAS IN port on the storage shelf. Connect the other end of the cable to a RAID connector on the rear panel of the NetBackup 5220.
SAS OUT The SAS OUT port is not functional at this time.

Electrical safety This section describes electrical safety precautions against personnel and device damage during installation and maintenance of Symantec products.
The NetBackup 5220 has two power modules, providing redundancy. When selecting the installation site of the NetBackup 5220, consider the following:
Verify proper grounding for the main AC power supply.
Overcurrent and overload protection
Circuits and associated circuit breakers must provide enough power and overload protection.
Separate the power supply from other large distribution loads or engines, such as an air-conditioner, elevator, or factory load.
High voltage precautions
A high-voltage power supply provides power for the device. Direct or indirect contact (through damp objects) with a high-voltage power supply (including the main power in a building) may result in fatal danger.
When installing the AC power supply, follow standard safety regulations. Personnel who install the AC power supply must be qualified to perform high voltage and AC operations.
Do not wear conductive objects such as a watch, chain, bracelet, or ring during the operation.
Switch off the power supply immediately if you find water in the cabinet or if the rack is damp.
Make sure that the device is kept away from water.

Power cables
Do not install or remove a power cable with the power on. Even minimal contact between the core of the power cable and the conductor might generate an electric arc or spark, which can cause a fire or injury.
Wrap bare wires of the power cable with insulating tape before connecting the cable to the power distribution cabinet.
Before installing or removing the power cable, turn off the power switch.
Before connecting the power cable, make sure that the power cable and label conform to the requirements for the installation.
Electrical storms
Do not perform operations on high voltage, power supplies and connections, or other conductive materials during storms which may produce lightening.
Be sure all devices are properly grounded to prevent damage or injury during storms.
ESD (Electrostatic Discharge)
The static discharged by human bodies can damage static-sensitive components on the boards.

Power On work
When installing and maintaining equipment, observe appropriate static safety precautions to prevent personnel injuries or device damage.
Indicates an electrostatic sensitive area. When operating a device in this area, you must take ESD-preventive measures, such as wearing ESD-preventive gloves, an ESD-preventive wrist strap and/or ESD-preventive clothes to avoid personnel injury or device damage caused by electrostatic discharge. To prevent the device from damage, pay attention to the following during operations:
Do not touch devices with bare hands because the ESD from the human body may damage the electrostatically sensitive elements on a board.
Electronic circuits are prone to damage caused by ESD. When dealing with a disk, especially a raw disk, wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap, ESD-preventive gloves, and ESD-preventive suit. Touch only the edge of the disk.
Use appropriate ESD-preventive bags when picking up, putting down, and transporting equipment or parts.
Power On work This section describes the safety precautions for troubleshooting when the power is on to avoid personnel injury and device damage.

Before checking the device installation and cable connection, confirm that all power supplies to the device are shut off to prevent personnel injury or device damage caused by incorrect cable connections or loosened cables.

If you need to perform power on operations and you need to touch power cables, you must take off the ESD-preventive wrist strap to prevent possible electrocution.
Do not plug or unplug cables during power on; otherwise, data loss may occur.
Before reconnecting the power supply, wait at least one minute.
You must shut off all disk drives before turning off the power to the system, to avoid disk damage or data loss.
Troubleshooting
Do not touch the connectors of power cables or communication cables. Otherwise, you might receive an electrical shock.
Do not touch the device with bare hands in an electrostatic sensitive area. Take ESD-preventive measures, such as wearing ESD-preventive gloves or an ESD-preventive wrist strap to avoid personnel injuries or device damage caused by electrostatic discharge.
During troubleshooting, pay attention to the following:
Do not carry out troubleshooting in stormy weather if lightening is possible.
Ensure that the power cables are intact and effective grounding measures are taken.
Keep the troubleshooting area clean and dry.

Additional safety precautions This section describes the safety precautions for lifting heavy objects, operating sharp objects, plugging and unplugging boards, and bundling signal cables to avoid personnel injuries and device damage.
Lifting heavy objects
Do not stand or walk under the heavy objects that are being lifted.
Only trained and qualified personnel are allowed to lift heavy objects.
Before lifting, check whether the required tools are complete and intact.
Before lifting, ensure that the lifting tools are firmly fixed on a wall or fixtures with enough load-bearing capacity.
Use simple and short commands to avoid accidents and damage to humans or materials.
While lifting, ensure that the angle between two ropes is no larger than 90°.
Plugging and unplugging boards
When inserting a board, wear an antistatic wrist strap and antistatic gloves. Insert the board gently to avoid distorting pins on the backplane.

Heat dissipation This section describes heat dissipation requirements of the NetBackup 5220 and Symantec Storage Shelf. Before installing the devices, check whether the heat dissipation on site satisfies the conditions for proper running of the device.
Heat dissipation guidelines For optimal maintenance, ventilation, and heat dissipation, pay attention to the following when installing the NetBackup 5220 into the rack cabinet:
For proper ventilation, the rack cabinet should be at least 100 cm (4’) away from surrounding walls and at least 120 cm (4’) away from any other cabinet(s).
To keep a convective air flow between the cabinet and the equipment room, ensure there are no obstructions on the front or back sides of the cabinet.
It is recommended to leave 1U (1U=44.45mm) space above and below each device.
Air flow The NetBackup 5220 takes in air from the front panel (along gaps in the front) and circulates air through the system. Fans discharge air from the rear of the device. Air flows from front to rear. The optional bezel can be installed on the front panel without any reduction in air movement.

The floor meets load-bearing requirements. Wiring troughs, ladders, and holes are ready. All construction is complete.
Air conditioning
If the temperature in the room may exceed 35°C, install air conditioners which can be restarted upon recovery from a power failure. Do not let the air conditioner blow directly on the devices.
Moisture proofing
If the relative humidity is greater than 70%, a dehumidifying device (for example, an air conditioner that provides a dehumidification function or a special-purpose dehumidifier) needs to be installed. Water penetration, dripping, and condensation must all be prevented in the equipment room.
Heating If the temperature in the room will be lower than the stated minimum of 10°C, heating devices are required.
Dust proof If the equipment room is located near a potential source of dust or other particulate matter, a double aluminum alloy window and an anti-theft fire door must be installed. The devices must be separated from the door and a baffle must be used to prevent dust pollution.
Lightning strike protection
The equipment room must have a lightning protection device such as lightning rod or lightning strip. The grounding of the lightning protection device and the protective grounding of the equipment room must share a grounding body.
In addition, make sure that the following special requirements are met:

Before transportation, ensure that the dimensions of the devices meet the requirements of the transportation passages (such as elevators and passageways).

Before unpacking devices, check whether the packages are intact. Have the project supervisor be present during the unpacking process.
When unloading the devices, place the packages in order with the labels on the packages facing the same direction.
1. Unload the devices.
2. After the devices are unloaded, check whether the quantity of packages received matches the shipping documentation.
If yes, execute Step 4.
If no, execute Step 3.
3. The project supervisor should complete the Cargo Inspection Feedback Form signed by the customer to the local office within three days.
4. Check whether the packages are intact and whether the packages have been upside down during transportation.
If the packages are severely damaged or wet, execute Step 7.
5. Check the Shock Watch label which is attached to the shipping container. If the indicator is red, execute Step 7.

ESD-Preventive measures
The ESD-preventive wrist strap prevents static electricity from the human body from damaging the devices. To prevent ESD from clothes, it is recommended to wear ESD-preventive clothes.
If there is no usable ESD-preventive wrist strap available, wear ESD-preventive gloves.
Wearing an ESD Wrist Strap To wear an ESD wrist strap:
1. Stretch your hand through the ESD-preventive wrist strap.
2. Fasten the buckle and ensure that the ESD-preventive wrist strap fully touches your skin.
An ESD-preventive wrist strap may include a plug or metal clip. For an ESD-preventive wrist strap with an ESD jack. Insert the grounding end of the wrist strap to the ESD jack on the cabinet, as shown below.

Ensure that the rack cabinet is properly installed and grounded.
Ensure that the rack cabinet is at least 100 cm (approx. 3’) away from the walls. The clearance between any two cabinets must be at least 120 cm (approx 4’) for convenient maintenance, adequate ventilation, and effective heat dissipation. Ensure that no enclosed space is formed by the devices in the cabinet to keep proper air transfer between the cabinet and the equipment room.

Installing the RAID card and accessories Each NetBackup 5220 can be used with one Symantec Storage Shelf to expand storage space. The NetBackup 5220 could also be used by itself.
If the NetBackup 5220 is intended for use with a Symantec Storage Shelf, additional hardware is required. Extra parts include a RAID controller card, Battery Backup Unit (BBU) for the RAID card and six 4Gb DIMM cards to support the RAID card and additional storage.
If the NetBackup 5220 and Symantec Storage Shelf are ordered at the same time, the RAID card and its accessories are installed into the NetBackup 5220 prior to shipment. In this case, field and service personnel should verify that the RAID card has been installed into the NetBackup 5220 Riser Card Assembly upon receipt of shipment.
If a Symantec Storage Shelf is ordered later than the NetBackup 5220, a RAID Controller Card and accessories needs to be ordered and installed separately.
If the RAID card and its accessories are required but not installed, obtain the necessary items from the customer and install them into the NetBackup 5220 chassis per the following procedure.
1. Shutdown the NetBackup 5220 and any peripherals.
Be sure that both devices are off and all programs on both devices are not running. If you connect these devices while programs are running, data loss may occur.
2. Disconnect the main AC power cord and peripheral cables/cords from the rear of the NetBackup 5220.
3. Wear ESD preventive wrist straps.
4. Carefully remove the NetBackup 5220 from the rack cabinet.
5. Place it on a grounded, ESD protective surface.
6. Remove the screw on the top, right-hand side of the chassis. Use the thumb grip on the top, left-hand side of the chassis to slide the cover towards the rear of the device.

15. Position a DIMM above a socket.
16. Align the notch on the bottom edge of the socket with the key in the DIMM socket.
17. Insert the bottom edge of the DIMM into the socket.
18. When the DIMM is inserted, push down on the top edge of the DIMM until the clips snap into place.
19. Make sure the clips are firmly in place.
20. Repeat for the other five DIMMs.
21. Replace the plastic air duct.
22. Obtain the RAID controller card.
23. Install the Battery Backup Unit (BBU) onto the top of the RAID card.
24. Line up the three screw holes of the RAID card with those of the battery.

Procedure 1. Looking at the front of the rack cabinet, place the left guide rail on the left post of
the rack cabinet.
2. Keep the bottom of the guide rail parallel to the bottom of the planned installation position.
3. Insert the guide pins on the front and rear of the guide rails into the holes on the front and rear posts of the cabinet.
4. Pull out the left and right rail extenders as far as they will easily and safely extend.

1. Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and ESD-preventive gloves.
Note: Locate the three heavy screws projecting from the left and right sides of the NetBackup 5220. These three screws fit into the three slots in the rail extenders.
2. Using at least two people, lift the NetBackup 5220 and place it into the rail extenders. Make sure that the rail slots securely fit the screws on the sides of the device.
3. Gently slide the device into the rack.
4. If needed, install a front mounting plate to the front of the each rail, using a screw to fasten it.
5. Repeat the previous steps to install a guide rail to the right side of the cabinet.
Installing the Symantec Storage Shelf guide rails Each left and right mounting rail for the Symantec Storage Shelf is shipped as a unit. The front and back of each rail slide apart a few inches to allow for precise fitting into the rack cabinet.
The bottom of each rail includes a sturdy metal ledge on which the Symantec Storage Shelf sits.
Procedure 1. Obtain the left and right mounting rails. The front of these rails mount on the front
of the vertical metal posts of the rack cabinet.
2. Facing the rack cabinet, align the left rail over the vertical metal post on the left side of the rack. Be sure that the support ledge is on the bottom of the rail, inside the cabinet, so that the storage shelf can sit upon it.
3. Place the alignment pin in the top hole of the rail. Make sure it passes through the rack and fasten the back of the pin.
4. Use a standard rack screw in the bottom hole of the rail, to secure the rail to the rack.
5. Slide the rear of the mounting rail into the rear metal post of the rack.
6. Repeat these steps for the mounting rail on the right side of the rack, again be sure that the support ledge is on the bottom of the rail, inside the cabinet.

Procedure 1. Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and ESD-preventive gloves.
2. Slide the Symantec Storage Shelf along the mounting rails into the rack cabinet.
3. Fasten all screws with an M4 Phillips screw driver.
4. Ensure that the Storage Shelf sits properly and all screws are secure.
5. Secure the left and right rack handles to the rack posts with screws.

Connecting the VGA Cable Connecting the Video Graphics Array (VGA) cable is optional. You can connect the cable to a computer directly or through a Keyboard Video Mouse (KVM) adaptor or switch.
1. Insert the connector of a VGA cable into the video port on the lower left side of the rear panel of the NetBackup 5220.

Connecting network cables
Connecting network cables The mainboard of the NetBackup 5220 offers two GE network ports (NIC 1 and NIC 2) and one IPMI management network port. These ports are accessed on the rear panel of the device.

Connect a cable between the IPMI port and the maintenance terminal of your Windows PC or your management network.

Connecting optical fibers

Connecting optical fibers The NetBackup 5220 provides a tape out card (Fiber Channel, FC) and a 10 GE NIC, both of which are connected to other devices through optical fibers.
Using the tape out card (Fiber Channel) as an example, this section describes how to connect an optical fiber. The procedure for connecting an optical fiber to the 10GE NIC is the same as that for connecting an optical fiber to the tape out card (Fiber Channel).
The laser beams of an optical interface board or inside an optical fiber can cause eye damage. When installing or maintaining an optical fibers or optical transceivers, do not look into the outlet of the optical fiber or transceiver directly.
When connecting optical fibers, note the following:
An optical transceiver is electrostatic sensitive and should be placed in an ESD-preventive and dust-proof environment for transportation, storage, and use.
Optical fibers and optical transceivers not in use must be protected with dust caps. If the optical transceiver is contaminated, carefully clean the optical interface.
Keep the surface of all optical connectors clean and free from scratches.
Do not squeeze, distort, fold, or repair an optical fiber. Do not bend the optical fiber into a circle with a radius less than 5 cm. Otherwise, the optical fiber may be damaged, which reduces the system performance or causes data loss.
Procedure 1. Take the cap of the optical transceiver out of the interface of the tape out card
(2-port 8Gb FC HBA, Fiber Channel).
2. Unpack and remove an optical fiber.

3. Remove the caps of the optical connectors.
4. Plug an optical connector into the interface of the card.

Connecting the NetBackup 5220 power cables The NetBackup 5220 has two power modules, one stacked upon the other and accessible on the rear panel of the device. Each module requires a separate AC power cable and main AC power outlet.
When connecting a power cable, wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap to prevent injuries.
Procedure 1. Plug one end of a power cable to a power module of the NetBackup 5220.
2. Plug the other end of the power cable into an AC power socket.
3. Connect the second power cable to the second power module and to a second power socket.

Connecting the NetBackup 5220 and the Symantec Storage Shelf
The rear panels of the NetBackup 5220 and the Symantec Storage Shelf are connected with two SAS cables which ship with the storage shelf.
Each cable attaches to the RAID Controller connectors on both devices. Be sure to use the SAS IN connectors on the storage shelf. The SAS OUT connectors on the storage shelf are not functional at this time.

Chapter 10 Powering on the NetBackup 5220
Check before powering on This section provides information that needs to be checked after the hardware installation and cable connections are completed, but before the device is powered on.
Before checking the device installation and cable connections, confirm that all power to the NetBackup 5220 is turned off to prevent personnel injuries or device damage.
Verify that the device and cables are installed correctly. The following table provides instructions for checking device installation.

2. Turn on the power switch on the rear panel of the NetBackup 5220.

3. Check the status of each indicator LED on the front panel of the NetBackup
5220 to determine whether the NetBackup 5220 is operating properly.
4. Connect a network cable between the NIC1 private network Ethernet port on the rear of the NetBackup 5220 and the network port of your Windows PC.
5. Navigate to Local Area Connection Properties, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click Properties.
6. On the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, Alternate
Configuration tab, enter the following information:
IP address 192.168.1.1
Subnetmask 255.255.255.0
The default login and password are admin and P@ssw0rd, respectively.
Powering off the NetBackup 5220 This section describes how to power off the NetBackup 5220.
The NetBackup 5220 is designed to run 24 hours a day. If the device needs to be maintained or the power supplies are planned to be turned off or disconnected, perform the following steps to completely power off the device.
Do not switch off the power before the disks stop running. Otherwise, disks might be damaged and data might be lost.
After shutting down the system, wait at least one minute before switching on the power again.
Procedure 1. Log in to the software management interface of the NetBackup 5220 to check
for running tasks. If there are running tasks, do not power off the device until the tasks are completed.
2. Log in to the NetBackup 5220 appliance shell menu. Default login and password are admin and P@ssw0rd, respectively.
3. Use the shutdown command to normally shut down the NetBackup 5220.
4. After the system power indicator of the NetBackup 5220 shows that the device is off, turn off power supplies of the NetBackup 5220.
5. Verify that no programs or tasks are running.
