UNDERGROUND MINING EMISSION REDUCTIONSOVERVIEW

• Located in Goderich, Ontario, Canada

• The world’s largest salt mine

• The mining operations extend underneath Lake Huron resulting in a unique ventilation challenge

• Ventilation air travels 19 km from intake to exhaust. The intake and exhaust shafts are less than 100 m apart

• The air can be in the mine for over 40 hours

• The mine has over 22,000 hp in diesel fleet equipment underground

• Located in the Jacksonville, Florida, USA

• JAXPORT board of directors unanimously approved a grant partnership with the state allowing the port to voluntarily reduce diesel emissions at the Talleyrand and Blount Island Marine Terminals

• EPA funded the port to install Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOCs) on JAXPORT equipment

• The grant was awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection

• 19 total retrofits were completed
