LA/Uni Partnerships• 8 partnerships now in place centered on universities
providing ITE
• All 32 authorities in partnership with at least one university
• Different models in place with different governing structures
• All in receipt of SG grants to develop partnerships and most now have dedicated staff in place
LA/Uni Partnerships• STEC/ADES survey highlighted issues:
• Much of the work dependent on a small number of key staff
• Fragility due to reduced capacity within LAs• Universities developing as senior partner –
reciprocity not yet achieved?• Realism required in relation to the speed of
change
• Quality key – audit existing provision across your partnership
National Implementation Board• Education Scotland Aspect Review 2015/16
• Legacy Event 2015 plus satellite events
• Evaluation of TSF
• E-portfolio an important new project
Focus on:• Sustainability• Coherence• Quality opportunities for all
Scottish College for Educational Leadership
• CEO in place, Board appointed
• Key positions advertised in TESS
• Consultation on Leadership Development / National Headship Programme
• Fellowship Programme
• SLDP/Drummond
Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce
• Ambitious and wide-ranging set of targets
• We will work with our partners – especially those in local government – on how to take forward the Commission’s ideas
• Implementation plan published by the end of the year
• Aim to build on existing, effective practice
• Commitment to take proposals forward as part of CfE and not a new strand of work – realistic pace
Implications for teachingRecommendation 1 - Pathways should start in the senior phase which lead to the delivery of industry recognised vocational qualifications alongside academic qualifications. These pathways should be developed and delivered in partnership with colleges and, where necessary, other training providers. Their delivery should be explicitly measured and published alongside other school performance indicators.
Section 2 - Initial teacher training and continuous professional development should include modules which help teachers deliver a broader understanding of employment and enterprise as part of the Curriculum for Excellent Broad General Education and the senior phase.
Section 2 - Additionally, programmes should be developed in partnership with industry to provide teachers who will lead our schools in future with a wide ranging understanding of industry and careers.
Implications for teaching
Section 4 – Colleges must play a key role in significantly enhancing vocational education in the senior school phase through partnership with schools. (Registration of College lecturers)
Recommendation 16 – Scotland’s leading industry sector groups and companies should be encouraged to work with the Scottish College for Educational Leadership to develop a programme to provide emerging school staff leaders with a wide ranging understanding of industry and careers.
More broadly a partnership approach to planning and delivering the curriculum will require joined up collaboration across school and college sectors. Challenges and opportunities for teachers.

• Key finding: Enquiry-orientated leadership key to creating conditions for enquiry-
orientated teachers
BERA/RSA report
• EBSCO access for all GTCS members
• EBSCO Education Source is a collection of over 1,700 journals, a selection of eBooks, and additional research resources in the
field of education
• A selection of relevant eBooks chosen by the GTCS are also available
A timely initiative!
• Evans (2014) critically evaluates various models for Professional Development
- Proposes a component structure which includes: behavioural [practical elements], attitudinal,
intellectual development
- Suggests behavioural change are usually main focus for PD – so how can we influence other two
areas?
