Peer SupportLast week, Year 6 engaged in two days of Peer Support Training. Students worked collaboratively to develop their leadership skills, including active listening, problem solving, developing empathy, decision making and perseverance. This week, years 1-6 are commencing our Peer Support sessions. Groups will meet during weeks 3-9 for 30 minutes each Thursday morning. The groups are run by two or three Year 6 leaders with approximately 10-12 younger students. Students will work together through a number of structured activities.

This year, we are working on a module called 'Living Positively', helping us explore the concept of optimism. This weeks first session enables the children to get to know everyone in the group, agreeing on how they will work well together and interact cooperatively with others. They will also begin to think about what it means to be optimistic. We encourage you to talk to your children about Peer Support every week, as it will help to reinforce the concepts learned in each session.

Education Week - Virtual TourDid you miss our virtual tour as part of Education Week?To celebrate Education Week last week, our students and teachers proudly shared their work in the classroom celebrating this year’s theme ‘Learning Together’, by posting a virtual open classrooms video on the Learning Hub at https://neutralbaypshub.weebly.com/ on the ‘News’ page.

These videos are only available for the use of parents and students of Neutral Bay Public School. We ask that these videos are not shared on social media. We hope you enjoyed our classroom videos. Please send an email to [email protected] if you cannot find your Learning Hub or Weebly invite.

The other use of the Learning Hub is to provide parents with a term overview for each grade. This contains the main topics learning this term.

Student Values SurveyWe have a quick survey open at the moment for parents. We are interested in how you would rate our five student values, in order of importance. Online EnrolmentsWe are excited to announce we rolled out the new Online Enrolment System on Monday, 10 August 2020.

The Online Enrolment System is designed to provide flexibility for our parents to submit an enrolment application online and at the time that best suits you. The application can be accessed on all browsers and mobile devices, including iOS and Android.

The online application process is currently restricted to:• Enrolments into local schools only• Children who are Australian citizens, New Zealand

citizens or permanent residents• Children who live in NSW.

We offer our support and encourage you to complete your application to enrol online. If, however, you do not feel comfortable completing an application online, a paper copy will be available for collection from the front office or can be downloaded from the Department’s going to a public school site. Further information about online enrolments can be found on our website here.

School News ContinuedEthics CoordinatorOur current Ethics Coordinator is stepping down, and we are seeking a new volunteer so that ethics classes can continue.

The Ethics Coordinator communicates with school staff, supports ethics teachers and liaises with Primary Ethics, the not-for-profit organisation approved to design curriculum and training for the program.

This role provides a great opportunity for a parent who might be unable to volunteer during school hours, or would prefer to volunteer behind the scene, and is a rewarding way to engage with the school community. Times are flexible, requiring approximately 1-2 hours per week and online training is provided.

If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school and would be interested in applying for this role, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au, or contact the Regional Manager at [email protected] for more information.
