Coronavirus Concerns Update Each day the news carries stories about the Coronavirus and it is only normal that our family caregivers have

concerns. The health and well-being of both your loved one and our staff is uppermost at Nevada Senior

Services at all times.

What Is Nevada Senior Services Doing to Protect Your Loved One? We have doubled our cleaning efforts including facility disinfecting both during the day at night.

We have provided additional staff training including precautions.

We have increased prevention measures including our emphasis on staff hand washing and use of

gloves.

We have increased monitoring of staff and clients’ health looking for any possible symptoms.

We are in close touch for updates with the Southern Nevada Health District.

You can find a video clip from Fox 5 News about our efforts on the Nevada Senior Services website:

www.nevadaseniorservices.org.

What Do Older Adults & Individuals with Disabilities Need to Know? Avoiding close contact with people who are sick

Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth

Keep your social distancing 6 to 10 feet from others

Stay home when you are sick

Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. (AND...wash your hands!)

Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or

wipe.

Following CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask: CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory

diseases, including COVID-19.

Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others.

Wash Your Hands!

Wash your hands often with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the

bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not

readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with

soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

If you believe your loved one has had an exposure to someone with Coronavirus or if you have any concerns about

your loved one’s health, please check-in with our nurses or ask Dee Dee (702.333.1518) to have one of our nursing team schedule a telephone call with you. Our clients are our most important concern. We will provide you with

updates should additional information become available. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html

Time to Get Some Fresh Air by Catie Chung PhD, RN, CNE, Touro University NV

Florence Nightingale is considered the founder of modern nursing –

and I know I’m biased, but nursing has some really great foundational

principles that she started. I thought I would share. One of these principles is just

right for the month of June – fresh air! I’m adding sunshine to the fresh air

prescription for an extra health boost and here’s why. Getting outside for some fresh

air and sunshine has been proven by research to help reduce our stress and improve

our concentration. It’s also easy to get some exercise outside – a quick walk with the

dog or another person is always nice. We tend to breathe more deeply when we get

outside which is good for our bodies and minds. Finally, the beautiful sunshine gets

absorbed by our skin and we make Vitamin D which helps our mental health, heart

health, and bone strength. Just 10-15 minutes of sunlight will do it! Try to get out in

morning s and evenings while it is still pleasant and cool...
