Collecting ephemera is an important part of Joanne’s creative
process. She gathers things, scraps, shopping lists, tickets found
on the street, at a train station, pockets, all of a particular
appearance; discoloured, loved, lost, stained and beautiful.
Pasted found notes or manuscripts are employed because of Joanne’s
anthropological interest in mark-making. Creating ‘accidental art’ forms is
a rule of her compositions. Joanne says: These ‘drawing collages’ are best
compared to the pages of a book, constructed from detailed marks and
materials imploring a need to be held and viewed intimately.
Joanne is based on the Isle of Wight. She has an MA from the Royal College
of Art, and has exhibited in London, Berlin, Rome and the 54th Venice
Biennale. She was featured in an Observer article titled ‘Next generation
turns its back on Emin and Hirst’s conceptual artworks’ in 2011.

An exhibition featuring work by eight
exciting textile artists and designers,
chosen for their mix of traditional
and contemporary techniques and
quality of production within their
medium.
Presenting a range of knitted,
woven, felted, embroidered and
felted textiles, this exhibition aims to
showcase the variety of processes
and the impressive results that can
be achieved within the field of
textiles. The showcase is curated by
Alison Woodley.

Kay Morgan, a purse postcard
Louise Davies, Secret Mountain. Etching, £220. This particular piece comes from sketches that I did whilst in Spain. However, the colours and composition allow the image to be somewhere else. I wanted to evoke the concealed mysteries and secrets that are hidden in the silent Mountains.
