The end of a long term
The Christmas holiday finally arrived.
Heres what the last days are like:
POLAND
We decorate Christmas trees at our school. There is
a big one in the corridor and smaller ones in the class-
rooms. All the classrooms are beautifully decorated
with baubles, ribbons, angels, Christmas cards and
decorations. Students belonging to one class have a
class meeting with their teacher. They share a wafer,
tell wishes to one another and then sing carols. They
also have a mela. They eat a traditional Polish dish or
just taste some cake. There is a special performance at
our school gym every year. Students present Christ-
mas traditions, tell
poem and sing car-
ols. The atmos-
phere in the last
day before the
Christmas break is
special.
Xmas in Maribor, SloveniaThere is a tradition that
we decorate our class-
rooms and on the last
day before holidays the
winning classroom is chosen.
Unfortunately our class has-
n't won yet. Some classeseven prepare a programme
inspired by a Christmas
spirit for the jury.
Here's a photo of a deco- rated classroom.
We also have a game in our
class and the game is called
The Secret Friend. Each gets
a name of a school friend
and has to surprise him or
her with small tokens of
appreciation

Spanish Christmas tradi-
tion is the decorations, like
the street Christmas lights
and, of course, the Nativity
Scenes. A Nativity Scene is adepiction of the birth of Jesus,
generally with small figures. It
depicts at least the Child Jesus
in the crib, the Virgin Mary
and St. Joseph, but there are
also a lot of other figures,
such as shepherds, sheeps,
villagers, the Three Wise Men
on camels, etc.
Christmas customs in Slove-nia Christmas is very popu-
lar holiday in Slovenia, like
everywhere in the world
which is celebrated in family
circle. But it's not as popular
as New Year's Eve. It is a
tradition that we wait forChristmas Eve so that four
Sundays before Christmas we
lighten up candles on advent
wreath.
People send Christmas cards
and sing Christmas carols. We
decorate our Christmas tree
and bake Christmas cookies.
There is a pleasant atmos-
phere in our homes. It smells
of good food, candies, and
oranges. Our mothers or
grandmothers bake traditional
cake called potica (nut rolls)
or fruit bread. Under the
Christmas tree there are a
Christmas crib and gifts forgood children.
On Christmas Eve people go
to midnight mass. In our fam-
ily it is a tradition that we go
to church on foot with
torches and before that we
have traditional Christmas
dinner.
Christmas is one of those
holidays when we can spend
our time with relatives and
people who are very close to
us.

Christmas Eve in PolandMateusz Czernek
For me Christmas is the most beautiful time during the entire year. Whenthe family meets in its entirety at the same table doing amazing atmospherein August. This is a beautiful feeling. Christmas are successful in this way when thewindows for our home is cold and a lot of snow. I think that each ofus in their homes has its own habits, which remain
to this day.
Throughout the year, we are waiting for the only date:The twenty fourth of December!. This is such a period in life wheneveryone has a wonderful mood to feast and meetings with family. On this day, they met inmy house is a lot of people who do dishes on Christmas night. And he is embellished table andplaced him on board. Of course, no one can run into choink gifts because it would be without
gifts for the holidays and Christmas trees.
A Christmas tree in my house always looks wonderful. At the center of the table stands a Christ-mas candle next to it on the plate are 'opatki' which will be divided already evening. It can not runout of hay into a beautiful white cloth-table as tradition requires tries.Every year, when the mo-ment nastaje already on the table must be 12 dishes including min.: 'Barszcz', 'carp', 'herring',
'pierogi with cabbage', 'noodles with poppy'.
Once all sit at table, we are waiting only for one beautiful star in the sky that will give us the signalthat you can already start Christmas Eve. Everyone takes the hand and each wafer with each be-gins to share it or tell themselves desired. After the demands of children or me, my sister, and my
cousins, lets get to unpack gifts.
Then comes the moment on trying each of the holiday dishes to taste. The biggest gourmand in myfamily are: Dad, uncle and grandfather. Then, are beautiful carols that always starts my grand-mother. After a wonderful evening everyone goes to their homes but only for a moment. Why?Because at 12 at night my whole family goes to church for midnight mass. With midnight mass
returned to the house and everyone goes with a smile on your face, and each has a good humor.
That, focus Wigilie although each end holidays do not end with the past times. Then there's still 1day festivities, followed by 2 days of holidays. In the following days is a Christmas carol orpastoral priest comes to each of the houses and we pray. I think that the
Christmas holidays are the most beautiful in the whole year.

dinner. At midnight, it is tradi-
tional to eat twelve grapes,
one on each chime of the
clock (well, as you can imag-
ine, not everyone succeeds in
doing that). Next, everybody
drinks a toast, with cham-
pagne or cava, and the partygoes on as much as we can
take, specially young people.
Epiphany. Spanish children
do not address their letters to
Santa Claus, but to the Three
Wise Men. On January 5, big
parades are organized in
which the Three Men partici-
pate in person, even though
they have a lot of work to do
that night.El Gordo. Massive Christmas
lottery which takes place on
22nd December, almost eve-
Other Christmas Eve. The
night before Christmas, it is
customary to organize family
reunions, in order to have a
dinner and celebrate together.
A Midnight Mass called Misa
del Gallo (Roosters Mass) is
also celebrated to commemo-rate the birth of Jesus.
Da de los Santos Inocen-
tes (Innocent Saints Day). On
December 28, we commemo-
rate the Biblical Herods
slaughter of the innocents. On
this day, all kinds of hoaxes
and jokes (called inocentadas)
are committed on friends and
relatives. In this sense, it is the
equivalent of the April FoolsDay.
New Years Eve. This day is
also celebrated with a family
