Bargaining Update is a monthly report that provides information about the unionized workforce, primarily in Alberta.
The settlement data reported in this issue of Bargaining Update is based on the collective agreement settlement information received by Mediation Services in April 2019. In April 2019, Mediation Services received settlement information regarding 61 bargaining relationships encompassing 10,546 employees. There were 39 private sector and 22 public sector settlements, covering 4,114 and 6,432 employees respectively.
Highlights
Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) The TEBA bargaining on behalf of school boards and the ATA, representing 37,480 teachers, reached a two-year collective agreement. Wage settlements will be settled through the arbitration process.
Urban Fare Urban Fare, a gourmet food store in Calgary employing approximately 100 employees, and CLAC Local 301 have ratified a 10 year collective agreement which will expire in 2029.
EPCOR Utilities EPCOR Utilities and CUPE Local 30 representing 635 employees reached a 36 month collective agreement which will expire in 2020.
Agreements Ratified To date, 135 agreements were ratified between November 2018 and April 2019. 99 settlements affecting 64,442 employees were negotiated. 35 settlements affecting 18,478 employees were settled through the mediation process. And one settlement affecting 449 employees was settled through voluntary arbitration. Ratified agreements included:
