OVERNIGHT PARKING

Some real progress has been made in finding overnight parking which means we will again look into overnight trips. This parking will be in the Burnsville Ice Arena parking lot, near the Police Department located south of where Highway 13 and Nicollet Avenue intersect. This lot is about one mile south on Nicollet on the east side of the street. If we an-nounce overnight trip details, there will be directions includ-

ed.

SEX PLEASE, WE’RE SIXTY By Vicki Bruesehoff

Mrs. Stancliffe's Rose Cottage Bed & Breakfast has been successful for many years. Her neighbor, Bud "The Stud" Davis believes the female guests come to spend time with him. The prim Mrs. Stancliffe reluctantly accepts that "Bud the Stud" is, in fact, good for business. Her other neighbor and would-be suitor Henry Mitchell is a retired chemist who has developed the pill "Venusia" to increase the libi-do of menopausal women. Someone swaps Bud’s Viagra with Venusia for women, and we soon discover they have a strange effect on men. It gives them all the symptoms of a menopausal woman, complete with hot flashes, mood swings, uncontrollable weeping and irritability. Add to the guest list Victoria Ambrose, a romance novelist whose personal life is lacking in romance; Hillary Hudson, a retired researcher; and Charmaine Beauregard, a Southern Belle whose libido does not need to be in-creased! When the mayhem settles down, all the women find their lives moving in new and surprising directions. Written in the style of the Golden Girls Meets Grumpy Old Men, this farce was performed by actors who are well into their 60’s and filled with mayhem, mischief and mood swings. Fifty members/guests had an enjoyable after-noon experience.

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNI-COLOR DREAMCOAT

The Orpheum Theater in downtown Minneapolis was packed with a joyful audience, including our group of Ceridian Retirees on Sunday afternoon, April 3rd. We all enjoyed the musical presentation of Joseph and the

Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The performance was lively, colorful, with lots of flashing lights and full of great music composed by Andrew Lloyd

Weber.

This production of “Joseph” appeared to be more con-temporary than the original production performed on Broadway and throughout the country when Donny Os-

mond played the part of Joseph.

You know you are enjoying yourself when you find your toes tapping to the musical beat while watching the rela-tively young performers dance, jump, and move around

like many of us can now only “dream about.”

It was an additional treat to see many youngsters in the

audience who were thrilled, listening to the music and

watching the actors dance and act out an interpretation of

the famous Bible story of “Joseph” in Genesis.

RIVERDANCE By Vicki Bruesehoff

The Retirees attended the 20th Anniversary Celebra-tion of River Dance at the State Theater in downtown Minneapolis. After 20 years, the performance still managed to take your breath away! The explosive combination of tradi-tional Irish dancing and haunting Irish music was amaz-ing. The set was very imaginative and lovely -- setting the perfect mood for the performance. The high energy, talented dancers, singers and musicians made for a delightfully entertaining afternoon.

So how did it go with your Windows 10 Upgrade? I heard from a few people and they all were able to get the upgrade done with no major problems. There are always a few minor things that come up and of course some people don’t like change which there is some of that with Windows 10. Here

are some of the things that I have gotten back:

PDF files open with Microsoft Edge rather than Adobe Acrobat – you can change this but my reaction is as long as the file opens and you can see the content why worry about it. Related to this was another comment that you have to double check all the default apps for each file

type as not all the old Windows applications are there or the default is some new app.

One person mentioned an issue with the Track Pad but the issue was there before the upgrade. If you don’t use the Track Pad and have is-

sues with it, you need to go into the BIOS setup and disable it.

Windows media used for playing music is not the default player. You have to work with several to see which works best for you and then

change the default.

Office suite is tied tighter to Windows 10 – so youmust have all the links in shape to get it to run properly.

Windows 10 automatic update is not as obvious as previous versions. It does not always tell you what it is doing. When you do a shutdown or restart, let it do its thing even if it seems it is taking forever. And be sure a laptop is plugged in as an unintended loss of powe is cata-

strophic.

Be aware of where you save files as one of the places is now the cloud (Onedrive). It is sometimes the default.

As I mentioned last month if you have any comments you would like to make about Windows 10 and your experience, feel free to send them to me

and I will pass them on to everyone in this column.

I had a questin related to Google Chrome support for Windows XP and Windows Vista as this is no longer supported. It seems that support for Google Chrome and Firefox is going away for the older versions of the OS. This doesn’t mean you can’t continue to use them but it does mean that there are no updates so if there are security holes they will not get patched. When I have seen this it recommends going with Internet Explorer. The

other choice is of course to upgrade to a newer version of Windows depending on what your hardware is capable of supporting.

I had another question about virus protection software packages and which is the best one to use. I can’t answer this question since I haven’t been using many different ones recently. I can say that at work we have changed to a product called Cylance which is supposed to be one of the best on the market. It is available for home users and it looks like it costs about $60. Since it is fairly new I haven’t seen it in the comparisons. If you are buying your virus protection you should check and see what your ISP might provide as part of your contract with them. I know that Comcast (Xfinity) provides Norton Antivirus and I have been very satisfied with that. To help you decide I am including a couple of links to comparison reports on

virus protection so you can make your own decision:

As you can see from looking at these reports they don’t all agree on which one is the best or the best value. Everyone looks at it a little different and has different parameters that they test against. When you are looking at these also check the ones that are free as they may be the best value overall. Hope this helps you to make a decision on which antivirus software to use.
