IMPORTANT NOTICES
If you install version 8 in a practice that currently uses version 6, you will need to upgrade ALL workstations to version 8 (you cannot have mixed versions). This is because version 8 uses a new filtering technique for images and if users develop images in version 8, any version 6 PC will only show them as RAW images.
Use the following website to update the key: http://keygenv8.imagelevel.com (with the normal Login).
Calibration Disclaimer: the measurements shown within EXAMINEPRO are only guidelines. EXAMINEPRO should not be used as a definitive measuring tool.

Overview of the EXAMINEPRO screen elements
Launch EXAMINEPRO to see the following screen:
These are the different options in the menu. In most cases the options are also available through the Iconset.
These screen ‘boxes’ are called Viewports. You can activate a Viewport and load a patient image.
For analysis and diagnoses purposes you can have up to 5 Viewports on your screen (you can compare up to 5 images of the same patient).
This is the Status Bar, showing the patient and practitioner name.
The Iconset provides quick access to functions. Click an icon to access the function.
The Imaging library contains all the images from a particular patient. Read the patient information on the Status bar and view the patient images in the Status Mount.
The Windowing slider is one of the most powerful features of EXAMINEPRO. It allows you to limit the number of gray scales in your image.
The Pseudo Colour slider allows you to convert the gray scales from the image into pseudo colours.
The Histogram of the image represents the distribution of the pixels. It shows the amount of pixels per gray scale. You will be able to improve the images.

To check disk usage
At the bottom of the screen is a disk usage bar:
If the bar is green, you have sufficient space to store the images.
An orange or red bar indicates that it is time to look for an extension of your hard disk/server.
New Iconset (overview of capabilities)
The iconset displays an overview of EXAMINEPRO capabilities. When an image is loaded into a Viewport, you will see the relevant icons in an active state:

Using the filter script
You can apply filters to EXAMINEPRO images to improve their quality.
The filter script is a new feature introduced in EXAMINEPRO v8.
It enables you to
List the filters that apply to a selected image.
Quickly produce the best possible image by trial and error by doing the following:
o Applying, activating and de-activating filters
o Changing the order of filters
o Immediately seeing the result of applied filters
From v8 the filter script saves in a separate file from the image and applies every time the image is loaded, which offers greater flexibility in the filter usage.
To activate the filter script
1. Load an image in the Viewport.
2. Either
o Select CTRL-F
– or –
o Select Display > Set current viewport to > Show filter script
You’ll see the Filter Script screen:
(See below for description)

The Filter Script Layout
In the image histogram the contrast, intensity and windowing options are only applied on the display of the image.
To apply these modifications to the filter script you need to use the option 'Apply real-time values to filter script'.
Filter Script Example:
Filter script: this tab will show you the applied filters. You will be able to manage the filters, change the order in which the filters will be applied, remove the filter from the script, activate or de-activate the filters.
RAW Mih data: an image in EXAMINEPRO consists of 3 files.
The .mih file contains the information the the image like applied filters.
This tab will show you the contents of the .mih file (the filters applied to the image).
This option is an expert option.
The list of filters applied to the image.
Move the selected filter up.
Changing the order of the applied filters can significantly change the image quality.
Move the selected filter down.
Remove the selected filter from the filter script.
De-activate a filter (useful in trial-and-error).
Activate a filter (useful in trial-and-error).
Show the original script for the image (some images come with a filter script).
Apply real-time values to filter script (definitively apply the changes made to the contrast, intensity and windowing).
DRAFT
EXAMINEPRO v8 17/12/2015 page 16 of 29
To modify the contrast and intensity, and apply the windowing
1. Make the changes to contrast, intensity and windowing as follows:
Intensity : 6, contrast -70 and windowing w:84-253.
2. Choose to apply real-time values to filter script if you are happy with the modification made to the contrast,
intensity and windowing.
The changes will then be added to the filter script - you’ll see the line INTCONWINDOWING 006,-070,084,253
The filter script is an important tool that creates visibility on the applied filters. It helps professionals create a better quality image. Since the filter scripts is a separate file, it is now easy to Undo and Redo different filters.

Working with the positioning guide
The positioning guide offers a visual aid on how to position the intra-oral sensor.
The new guide integrates in the teeth scheme, so depending on the tooth selection you will see an image on how to position the sensor in the patient mouth. You also have the option to play a short instruction video.
The positioning guide is not yet complete - our goal is to have examples for every tooth selection.
Example use of the positioning guide:
To use the holder set and how to position the sensor in the mouth of the patient
In this example we select tooth 13 and the positioning guide shows how to use the holder set and how to position the sensor in the mouth of the patient:
If we select tooth 18 a different image shows the way to position the sensor for this tooth.

The 3D Viewer
The 3D Viewer is integrated into EXAMINEPRO v8 (and later) as an optional utility for viewing 3D images directly from the EXAMINEPRO image library.
For purchasing information about the 3D Viewer module please contact your distributor.
Features
The 3D viewer is capable of generating multiplanar (MPR), volume (3D) and X-ray reconstructions.
It has the essential tools for a careful and in-depth medical image analysis.
You are able to magnify or reduce an image and rotate the 3D image around its centre for better viewing.
The stack overview allows you to navigate through images or different slices in a reconstruction.
Requirements
Before you can use the 3D viewer you will need to import the CT slices in the program.
To import a 3D image
1. Select File > Import CT Images:
A 3D image comprises several files, each of which is a slice that is used to build up the 3D image.
2. Select the files that make up the 3D image and click the Import button.
DRAFT
EXAMINEPRO v8 17/12/2015 page 23 of 29
Once the slices are imported, the 3D viewer can reconstruct the 3D image.
The image is integrated into EXAMINEPRO and ready to be viewed with the 3D Viewer.
3. Double-click the image to launch the 3D Viewer.

The 3D Viewer screen
There are three different views, as described below.
3D Volume view
This view allows you to combine the volume view (right window) with 3 views (axial, sagital and coronal).
You can rotate the image in the volume view.
2D Stack view
This view allows you to see the slices that comprise the 3D image.
You can scroll through the different slices and analyse the image slice by slice
Select an icon to display 4, 9 or 12 slices on your screen.

Click to save the status and to make a screenshot that can be saved in the patient's library.
See previous section (3D Viewer) for details information on the different buttons.
Curved MPR
Use this to reconstruct a panoramic image based on the polygon that is drawn on a slice. You can even
reconstruct multiple images based on the polygons that are drawn on the slice in the left screen.
To use Curved MPR
1. Load the image in the 3D viewer and select the Curved MPR tab.
2. Move the slider down in order to see the correct slice you want to use as a basis for the panoramic image.
3. To start the reconstruction, click the first point of the polygon.
4. Click further to position the other points of the polygon.
5. To end, double click on the last point.
The panoramic image reconstructs automatically.
??? Click this button to remove all the polygons that were drawn on the image.
6. Optionally examine multiple polygons. Choose the number of polygons that you want to examine:
o 1 polygon
o 2 polygons
o 4 polygons
This screenshot shows the 2X2 selection where you can see the reconstruction of 4 polygons.
???
7. An interesting capability is to create a paraxial cell:
After you have drawn the polygon, right-click to show the following menu:
???
8. Choose Create Paraxial cell and this will draw on the image.
