About Directorate of Information Technology, Govt. of Puducherry

The Directorate of Information Technology, pronounced as "DIT" has been created in the year 2002, vide G.O.Ms.No.59, dated

19-07-2002 in order to give fillip to IT related activities in the Union Territory of Puducherry. This Directorate is currently

involved in the following activities :

Ÿ Acting as a Nodal Office for purchase of computer and related accesssories, software, etc.

Ÿ Providing technical assistance for all IT activities to Government Departments..

Ÿ Implementing Mission Mode Projects envisaged under National e-Governance Plan of Ministry of Communication and

Information Technology, New Delhi.

Ÿ Framing and implementation of I.T./I.T.E.S. policies.

Ÿ Bring-in increased transparency, efficiency and accountability in Government operations through e-Governance.

Ÿ Extending support to Government Departments towards the preparation of Detailed Project Reports, preparation of

Request for Proposals, Bid Process Management and Implementation Support for e-Governance activities.

Ÿ Training Government Officials.

Ÿ Controlling Puducherry e-Governance Society.

Capacity Building (CB)

As a part of Capacity Building, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with ICT Academy to impart quality education in

the area of ICT, to achieve the following:

Ÿ To train Higher Education Teachers, Government Employees, IT Professionals;

Ÿ To establish & Operate IT Finishing School to train on hardware and software skills for final year students, fresh Graduates

of ICT;

Ÿ Entrepreneurial Development Programs for ICT Graduates;

Ÿ Skill Development Program for youth in the domain of ICT.

ICT Academy, Puducherry – The Mission

The Union Territory of Puducherry seeks to leverage the potential of Information and Communication Technology to transform

itself from a Resource Based Economy to a Knowledge Based Economy. In this pursuit, ICT Academy of Puducherry is

empowering the faculty members and students of Puducherry UT with ICT knowledge and technology.

As a part of the mission, ICT Academy, Puducherry has trained more than 2,500 faculty members benefitting 1,00,000

students across the state. The training programs are standardized and customized based on specific industry needs from time

to time.

About IT FINISHING SCHOOL SCHEME

IT Finishing School Scheme provides the transition from being a student to becoming a professional. Close to 80% of Indian

employers say that today’s students lack in soft skills and technology skills necessary to fit into the corporate culture of their

organization. The ITFS training is for graduates and post-graduates, seeking employment in the corporate world.

Making the transition from a relaxed, mostly informal college atmosphere, to a more serious and professional corporate world,

can be difficult. The reason is simple – they’re unable to change certain fundamental perspectives and habits and adapt

quickly to the new environs. Aspects like a person’s dressing sense, style of communication and the very attitude to life are

suddenly under the spotlight. And that can be unnerving to the very best! That’s why this IT Finishing School program seeks to

help students and freshers make this transition as smoothly as possible. ITFS aspires producing a confident and a tuned team

that is ready to thrive in a professional yet challenging landscape with ease and confidence.

Ÿ IT Finishing School scheme focuses on students passing out from the engineering colleges, arts & science colleges and

polytechnics, who aspire making a career in the IT / ITeS Sector.

Ÿ The Puducherry Government is taking constant efforts in developing these graduates to be employment ready. With

statistics projecting only 25% of graduates are employable, there is a need for developing the skills of the graduates

passing out from the institutions in our state.

Ÿ Based on this need the DIT, Govt. of Puducherry proposes to skill all the students passing out this year on employability in

the IT / ITeS sectors and enabling them right career opportunities.

Objective

To establish and operate IT Finishing School program to train and facilitate placements for college graduating students in the

UT of Puducherry. To train the students passing out of various courses in the state of Puducherry on Employability Skills for IT /

ITeS sector though a rigorous Industry endorsed training program , thereby achieving the following.

Ÿ To create employability skills for students.

Ÿ To create a platform for students to obtain placements.

Ÿ To showcase Puducherry as a destination for IT/ITeS companies.

Ÿ Develop Courses in alignment with Industry trends.

Ÿ Train, assess and certify the college graduates.

Achievements


ITFS Scheme and Placement 2016 - 2017

The Government of Puducherry in association with ICT Academy, Puducherry has been conducting various training and

placement programs for the benefit of the technical and non-technical graduates of Puducherry. The training programs with

industry relevant content have been conducted with the guidance of the leading corporate companies, which years back

focused majorly on imparting the basic technology skills like RDBMS, Netowrking, Technology Fundamentals etc., with a

minimal share of employability and entrepreneurial skills.

But, the Puducherry Government has been keen in redesigning the curriculum periodically to suit the changing industry

scenario and introduced the IT Finishing School (ITFS) program in association with ICT Academy. This ITFS program is a 180

hour program of which 100 hours is exclusively aportioned for imparting Soft Skills apart from 60 hours of IT Skills like VMware

/ BigData / Cloud Computing and 20 hours of assessments. The result of this well-knit program has reflected during the Link -

The Mega Job Fair conducted recently at Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry in which 34 companies participated

representing IT/ITeS, Retail, Manufacturing and other service industries, and more than 1500 graduates received placement

orders.

About Link – The Mega Job Fair

Link – The Mega Job Fair creates opportunities for students trained by ICT Academy through State / Central Government

projects to participate in common placement drives to be conducted across India. This initiative is supported by corporate in

order to provide an opportunity for students in the Tier II and Tier III cities to showcase themselves to organizations and obtain

their dream campus placement offers.




Link at Pondicherry Engineering College

As a first step, ICT Academy in association with Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Puducherry and

Puducherry e-Governance Society organized the first Link – The Mega Job Fair at Pondicherry Engineering College,

Puducherry on 17 December 2016. The Mega Job Fair was a huge success, which attracted 5000+ students from

engineering, arts & science and polytechnic colleges across the Union Territory of Puducherry obtaining 1500+ offers letters

from 30 + MNCs.

Directorate of IT, Govt. of Puducherry and Puducherry e-Governance Society in association with ICT Academy conducted

Link – The Mega Job Fair, for the first time in Puducherry at Pondicherry Engineering College on 17 Dec, 2016 (Saturday).

The Job Fair was inaugurated by Shri V Narayanasamy, Chief Minister of Puducherry in the presence of Shri M. O. H. F

Shahjahan, Revenue Minister of Puducherry, Shri. D. Manikandan, I.A.S, Secretary to the Government (IT), Shri. A.S.

Sivakumar, Director of Information Technology, Govt. of Puducherry, Shri. Satyendra Singh Dursawat, I.A.S., District

Collector, Karaikal and Shri. M. Sivakumar, CEO, ICT Academy.

On inaugurating the Job Fair, Honourable Chief Minister Shri V Narayanasamy said that "There are more than 18 colleges in

the Puducherry Union Territory. Those who pass out from these colleges move to the cities like Bengaluru, Chennai and

Hyderabad seeking employment opportunities. To retain the talents of the Union Territory, the Government is planning to

open an IT park in the state and our industry policies are focussed towards the same."

"Apart from this, the Government has spent INR 1.5 crores to enhance the employability skills of Puducherry students, by

providing training particularly on IT and Soft Skills. To eradicate the unemployment in the state, Puducherry government is

conducting this Job Fair in association with ICT Academy, where the students get the opportunity to get placed in leading

MNCs" he added. The Chief Minister also iterated the need to establish Entrepreneurship Development Cells in Puducherry

and urged ICT Academy to do so. He also said that the Central Government has consented to make Pondicherry Engineering

College into an University and Puducherry Government shall take necessary steps to make it happen.
