outstandaing service experience for members and their guests. The Management and Staff of the Everett Golf & Country are committed to the following Core Values:

RespectRelating to all persons with courtesy, fairness, and thoughtfulness; in short, treating others as we would want to be treated.

TraditionTaking Pride in EG&CC’s place in history, Northwest golf and our community and building on those for the future.

IntegrityAs an organization, we will be recognized as being fair, honest, transparent and respectful in everything that we do.

FunEncouraging levity, camaraderie and relaxation in a wide variety of club programs and events.

ExcellenceProviding exceptional quality and timely, personal service to our members and their guests on a consistent basis.

Our Core Values

5

The Responsibility of the Club 1. Since its inception in 1910, it has remained the responsibility of the Everett Golf & Country Club to

provide a safe, secure and pleasant environment for our members, their families and guests. Member-ship is by invitation only, therefore ensuring that the Club maintains a strong, healthy membership base comprised of like minded individuals who share similiar interests, ideals and backgrounds.

2. The largest physical assets of the Club, the golf course and the clubhouse, are well-maintained and provide a great deal of value to membership at the Club. Recent improvements, on-going maintenance and replacement of equipment ensure that the Club retains its attractiveness to the existing and potential members.

3. The Club has always maintained a conservative fiscal approach. Members of the Board, Finance Com-mittee and Management of EG&CC are dedicated to safeguarding the assets of the members. Because of their proactive approach in dealing with the recent economic downturn, EG&CC is now in better shape financially than that of the close competition.

The Responsibility of the Members1. From the start, Everett Golf & Country Club has established itself as a truly fine private country club of-

fering its members unparalleled amenities and services. We can also proudly state that our Club’s mem-bership roster is comprised of Snohomish County’s most outstanding families and individuals. In order to protect this well-earned stature and ensure the continued quality and compatibility of our membership, the Club stands firmly behind its policy of “membership by invitation”. All members lost through normal attrition are replaced by new members proposed by our membership. As our newest Club Members, we ask you to join us in our efforts to attract new members. Please introduce your family, friends and asso-ciates whom you feel would enjoy the many benefits of membership to our fine Club. Together, we will work to maintain a full roster of members, the finest testimony of a private club.

2. The Board of Directors and volunteer committee members provide the backbone of the club. With con-sideration of the EGCC Strategic Plan, Core Values and Key Initiatives, they create the policies to ensure that the Vision for the Club becomes reality. The Club could not exist without the support and generous time volunteered by our members. We encourage you to serve your club and fellow members by becom-ing involved in the committee structure.

You can also check your status by ask-ing any server or by calling the front office.

A food minimum program helps to curb the overhead costs of offering a first class dining experience to a lim-ited membership, and allows the club to keep the food & beverage operations adequately staffed. This program ensures that we are here for our members when they want to use the club. It also allows us to keep our dues structure low so we are

Errant Golf Ball Notice

Dear Members:

During the past several years the Board of Directors has spent a considerable amount of time dealing with is-sues relating to damage and potential injury resulting from golf balls that leave the course (errant golf balls). This issue was referred to the Golf Activities Committee to develop a procedure that is in the best interest of the Club. The purpose of this memorandum is to report to the membership the results of that effort.

HistoryAlthough errant golf balls are certainly not a new issue, it is one that seems to have developed increased at-tention in the past few years. The reason for this heightened awareness is uncertain, however, it does exist, and a process is necessary to respond to the claims made. It has always been the policy of the Club to deny claims made against the Club for damage caused by errant golf balls. The Board of Directors sought the opinion of legal counsel, and based upon that concluded that if any liability exists for the damage resulting from errant golf balls, it lies with the individual golfer, and not the Club. However, the Club is repeatedly asked to respond to claims made, and it was determined that a policy should be established to aid manage-ment and staff so that a proper response to claims is made on a consistent basis. It is the concern of the Board of Directors that if a proper response is not made, the Club may face pressure from outside sources to remedy the problem in a more intrusive manner. In particular, there have been several suggestions that the Club should install netting surrounding at least portions of the golf course, a suggestion that heretofore has been rejected by the Board.

The errant golf ball issue is not an issue exclusive to the Everett Golf & Country Club. Cedarcrest in Marys-ville reports that it has a significant problem, and its response to claims is identical to the position taken by our Club. That is, it is the responsibility of the individual golfer, and not the Club.

The Board’s PositionNotwithstanding its opinion regarding the liability of the Club, it is the Board’s position that the members must take responsibility for any liability that may result from errant golf balls. In order to promote this posi-tion, the Board has adopted a policy that contains two basic planks: (1) educating the members as to their responsibility; and (2) establishing a process for responding to claims, which includes providing assistance to victims in identifying the responsible golfer.

Errant Golf Ball Notice Continued...

The Member’s ResponsibilityThe Board of Directors does not intend to make a determination as to liability regarding errant golf ball inci-dents. However, the Board does consider it the responsibility of members to step forward and identify them-selves if they are involved in an errant golf ball incident. Furthermore, this responsibility includes not only members, but also their guests. If you are involved in such an incident, it should be reported to the Pro Shop Staff as soon as reasonably possible, and certainly not later than after the completion of your round of play. The Pro Shop Staff has been provided with forms for the reporting of such incidents for your use. The Pro Shop Staff has further been vested with the responsibility to investigate incidents that are reported by others, and the Board expects that all members will cooperate with the Pro Shop Staff in the investigation process. Please keep in mind that this process is not designed to place responsibility for an incident, but instead only to assist in identifying those persons involved. The final decision regarding responsibility is one best left to the individuals, their insurance carrier, or eventually the appropriate legal forum. We further recognize that the vast majority of golf balls that leave the premises do so without incident, and we do not expect that every such incident be reported. On the other hand, if you or your guest hits a shot which does leave the premises, and you know or have reason to believe that damage has resulted, it is your responsibility to report the inci-dent promptly. For those of you who have junior golfers, remember that you should also educate them as to their responsibility.

The Reporting ProcessThus far, in the majority of incidents reported from outside sources, the identity of the responsible individual is not known. Furthermore, there has been no set process whereby individuals report incidents. Since the Club would like to assist victims in identifying the responsible golfers, the following process has been estab-lished:1. Any person reporting an errant golf ball related incident shall be escorted immediately to the Pro Shop Staff. As part of the reporting process, the Pro Shop Staff shall have the victim complete an Incident Report Form (proposed form attached hereto), which report form shall include the following items: (a) Where the incident occurred; (b) when the incident occurred; (c) name, address and telephone number of the victim; (d) a narrative description of the incident by the victim, which would include a description of the golfer and/or foursome if the victim is able to provide such; and (e) a narrative description of the damage, which damage should be viewed by the member of the Pro Shop Staff, if possible.

2. The Pro Shop Staff shall undertake every reasonable effort to identify the person who is responsible for the golf ball.

3. If the identity of the responsible golfer is known, the Pro Shop Staff shall specifically inform the golfer that it is their responsibility, and shall provide that person with the name, address and telephone num-ber of the victim.

Errant Golf Ball Notice Continued...

4. If the identity of the golfer is known, the Pro Shop Staff should, within five (5) days of the reported incident, contact the victim to ascertain if they have been contacted by the golfer responsible. If not, the identity of the golfer should be referred to the Chair of the Golf Activities Committee, who should then contact the golfer and remind the golfer of his/her responsibility. Within five (5) days thereafter, the Chair of the Golf Activities Committee should contact the victim to ascertain if they have been contacted by the golfer responsible. If not, the matter should be referred to the Board for potential disciplinary action. The refusal of a member to cooperate may result in disciplinary action, which may include the suspension of playing privileges.

5. If, after a reasonable period of time, the Pro Shop Staff is unable to identify the golfer, the Pro Shop Staff will contact the victim, and inform him/her that the person has not been identified, along with a recom-mendation that the victim contact his or her own insurance carrier.

This entire process may appear to many of you as unnecessary, or even heavy-handed. However, the Board is convinced that it is a necessary step, and one that is certainly less offensive than many of the suggestions being given us by those around us. If we, as a Club, do nothing to address this continuing issue, then we face the strong likelihood that a less acceptable remedy will be forced upon us. The Board, therefore, antici-pates the cooperation of all members. Throughout the years we have strived to maintain a solid reputation in the community, and view this process as a continuation of that effort. We are further convinced that this process will not impose an undue burden on any member, and will insure the continued enjoyment of our facility.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we would like to express our sincere appreciation for your anticipated cooperation.

Very Truly Yours,

Everett Golf & Country ClubBoard of Directors

Welcome Letter from the Golf Course SuperintendentOn behalf of the golf course maintenance staff, I would like to welcome you to Everett Golf & Country Club. We look forward to seeing you all on the course and doing our best to provide our membership with the best playing conditions possible every day.

The success of our efforts on the course now is the direct result of the considerable investment the club has made to the course over the past 100 years. The best example of this is how firm the course remains year round - we truly are one of the best winter courses in our area.

The quality of our playing conditions is also a direct result of the care and respect given to the course by our membership. The course belongs equally to every member and the importance of everyone demonstrating proper course ettiquette cannot be understated. The following is a quick list we hope all will follow. 1. Please take the time to find and properly repair your ball marks. The best method is to use a repair tool (available in the pro shop) to knit the edges ofyour ball mark back towards the center. The most common mistake is made by those who use the tool to pry up the center of their mark. This will likely produce a small bare spot of soil that will take months to recover. If when you are done repairing a ball mark it is green, you have been successful. If your mark is brown, you need to work on your technique. 2. Please replace your divots or fill them with divot mix. Our preference would be to have divots replaced whenever possible, however if they explode and cannot be recovered, please use our divot mix. We maintain a supply of divot bottles in the pro Shop. If your bottle mix runs out during your round, you can refill them with mix supplied in the green boxes placed at each tee. 3. We ask that golf carts be kept at least 30 feet away from all greens. If any golfers need to drive closer to the greens to enhance their ability to utilize and enjoy the course, we have a medical “red flag” program that provides golfers with this option. The pro shop can help answer any questions you might have about this policy. 4. When on the course, golfers will notice we use cart signs to help control traffic. Our “CART” signs are to control golf cart traffic. Our “SPEED CART” signs are to control pull carts. The goal of the speed cart signs is to limit pull carts from traveling between the greens and greenside bunkers on specific holes.

In addition to these guidelines for the course, there are a couple of requests we have for golfers using the turf at the practice area and on the driving range tee. In an effort to conserve hittable turf on both of these areas, please attempt to keep any divots you might be taking in a tight pattern. Those who take large widely spaced divots end up consuming much more turn than needed. Our turf range tee is quite small and will last much longer if everyone works to minimize the damage they inflict.

The turf on the range generally opens in May and closes for the season sometime in October. The turf at the practice area is open year round, however all members are encouraged to hit from the mats at the practice whenever convenient. This is especially true during the winter when regrowth from seed is very slow. Thank you in advance for helping our staff maintain and protect the quality of the playing conditions we all enjoy on the course.Mike Conklin, Golf Course Superintendent
