Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu
Flying to Kathmandu is in itself an exciting and memorable experience. On a clear day you will get a panoramic view of the
snow-capped Annapurna mountain range. In the airport, after completing the visa formalities, collect your luggage
downstairs. As you exit the airport terminal, you will be met by our representative carrying your name on a signboard as
well as our company signboard, Annapurna Foothills Treks & Expedition. You will be taken to your hotel in our vehicle,
where you will be served free welcome drinks, tea or coffee or juice as you check in.
The Managing Director of our company will meet you in the hotel and provide more information about the expedition. Your
dues must be cleared before we proceed on the trip. Afterward, you are free to relax or explore around the city. Overnight
stay at hotel
Day 02: Preparation Day in Kathmandu
We will finalize paperwork-permit for your trip and make a final check of your climbing equipment. In case you need
additional trekking equipment, you will have a chance to buy it. Sightseeing tours of Kathmandu Valley are also an option.
Overnight stay at Hotel Included Meals (B )
Day 03: Fly to Lukla, 2820m, and trek to Paiya (Chutok), 2730m: 3-4 hrs
We head to Kathmandu domestic airport for the early morning flight to Lukla. It takes only 40-minutes but is an amazing
way to start the trek, flying next to the towering mountains. We land on a small airstrip in a valley surrounded by high
mountains peaks. Our climbing team is waiting to meet us and soon we start out on our trek. Beginning at Lukla and then
descending is good for acclimatization. We head in the opposite direction of the popular Everest Base Camp trail, and take
the trail south through forests down to the traditional villages Surke and Pakhapani and rhododendron forests. There is a
great view from Paiya: Knogde Ri, Khatang, Tang Ragi Tu and other 7000+ meter peaks. Overnight camp Included Meals
(B L D)
Day 04: Paiya to Pangoma, 2850m: 5-6 hrs
From Paiya there is a short descent to a wooden bridge which we cross and then start a steep and slippery ascent to Kari La
Pass, 3145m. A narrow trail winds down through the rhododendron and bamboo forests. The scene is beautiful with the
Dudhkoshi River valley below and the Dudh Kund Himal and the Sherpa’s holy Mount Kumbi Yul Lha, 5761m. From the
pass the trail drops down, and then climbs up to Panggom, a Sherpa trading village. Overnight camp Included Meals (B L D)
Day 5: Trek to Najing Dingma, 2600m, 6-7 hrs

From Pangom village, we climb through rhododendron and bamboo forests to reach Panggoma La, 3173m, where we get
our first view of the striking Mera Peak. We descend to Shibuche village and cross the Hinku Khola on a rope bridge and
then make the long ascent to Nashing Dingma. Overnight camp Included Meals (B L D)
Day 6: Trek to Cholemo Kharka, 3600m, 6-7 hrs
From Nashing Dingma the trail climbs gradually through pasture and lush greenery to the Surke La pass. We stop for lunch
further along the Surkhe Danda ridge where there is some water. We continue through rhododendron and bamboo forests
enjoying the view into the Honggu Valley. Kharka means pasture, and eventually we reach a pasture among fir and
rhododendron where we set up camp. Overnight camp Included Meals (B L D)
Day 7: Acclimatisation Day at Cholemo Kharka, 3600m We climb beyond the forest into rugged terrain on the way to the 4200-meter pass. We will climb this again tomorrow on
our way to Chngbuu Kharka. From the pass we enjoy an excellent view of Kanchenjunga, 8586m and can see the trail up
the Hinku Valley to Mera Peak. We return back to Cholemo Kharka for the night, following the principle of
acclimatization, “Climb high and sleep low”. Overnight camp Included Meals (B L D)
Day 8: Trek to Changbu Kharka, 4200m, 5 hrs
Today we retrace yesterday’s trail to the first pass and push on for another hour and a half to the second pass, 4450m. A
short descent brings us to the stunning Panch Pokhari lakes, a beautiful lunch spot. This is a famous pilgrimage
destination, as the Panch Pokhari lakes are considered to be holy by Hindus. From here it is a short trek over grazing land
to Changbu Kharka, a hollow at the head of the valley where we set up camp. Overnight camp Included Meals (B L D)
Day 9: Descend to Kothe in the Hinku Valley, 3550m, 7 hrs Today the trail climbs up to follow a high ridge above the Hinku Khola (river). There is a succession of steep descents on
scree that can be icy. Descending to the valley floor we again enter rhododendron forests. There are a few bridges crossing
back and forth over the Inku (Hinku) river, and we join up with usual Mera Peak trail via the Zatrwa La pass at Tashing
Ongma. There are a number of lodges in Khote. Our camp site is a grassy area beside the river. Overnight camp Included Meals (B L D)

Day 10: Kote to Thangnak, 4356m, 5 hrs
We ascend gradually following the Hinku River. Mera Peak and other mountains tower around us now. On the ridge above
the river are pastures. Gondishung is a summer herders’ settlement where there is an ancient monastery. The trees become
sparser as we are nearing the snow line. Thangnak is a summer grazing area. Overnight camp
Day 11: Acclimatization Day in Thangnak
Today we explore this superb setting and allow our bodies to acclimatize. From a ridge behind Thangnak there are splendid
views of Mera North, Charpate Himal, Kyashar and Kusum Kanguru.. North of Thagnak there is a huge moraine which has
been dammed, resulting in a beautiful glacial lake, Sabai Tsho. Thangnak is also the base for expeditions to the east and
north-east sides of Kushum Kanguru. Overnight camp Included Meals (B L D)
Day 12: Thangnak to Khare, 5045m, 4 hrs
The trail crosses boulders left by Sabai Tsho, the glacial lake which is close to the trail north of Thangnak. We follow the
lateral moraine of Dig Glacier to the grassy Dig Khraka, which offers spectacular views of Charpate Himal. The trail climbs
through moraines to the snout of the Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers and then climbs more steeply to Khare. From a ridge
above Khare there is an excellent view of the route we will take to Mera Peak. Overnight camp Included Meals (B L D)
Day 13: Acclimatization Day in Khare /Preparation day
To acclimatize, we spend the day exploring and practicing climbing techniques with our guide. If we are feeling energetic,
we might trek as far as Mera La. Overnight in Lodge Included Meals (B L D)
Day 14: Khare to Mera La, 5415m, to Base Camp 5350m, 4 hrs
We ascend for three hours over a boulder strewn path up to the glacier. There is a short climb to a glacial plateau leading
up to Mera La. The views from the pass are spectacular. From the pass we descend about 100m towards the Honggu side
and set up our base camp on the rocky moraine below the ice. Overnight in Tent Included Meals (B L D)

Lotshe, Nuptse, Chamlang and Baruntse. We can also see most of the route to the summit. Overnight in Tent Included
Meals (B L D)
Day 16: Mera High Camp to Summit and back to Khare, 9-10 hrs
We have an alpine start before daybreak as the climb usually takes 5-6 hours. We put on crampons and rope together for the steep
climb to the summit. There are a number of crevasses, so we will need to take precaution if there has been recent snowfall. The is a
short sharp scramble up an ice-wall to the summit is well rewarded with spectacular views of Cho Oyu, 8201m, Lhotse, 8516m,
Everest, 8848m, Makalu , 8463m, Pumori, 7161m, Lobuche, 6145m and many others. It takes about 2 hours to retrace to our steps to
Khare. This is a very long but satisfying day! Overnight in Tent Included Meals (B L D)
Day 17: Reserve Day
There is no guarantee that there will be favorable weather for scheduled summit day. In case we are unable to summit Mera
Peak on day 14 due to weather or any other reason like someone in the group having altitude related problems, this extra
day gives some flexibility. Included Meals (B L D)
Day 18: Khare to Kote, 4182m, 7hrs
We descend into the Hinku Valley to Kothe. Khote and it stays on the open hill side which lies west of the Hinku River.
The winds blowing down the forest makes the descent quicker. We get fantastic views looking back on Mera Peak. .
Overnight camp. Included Meals (B L D)
Day 19: Kote to Thuli Kharka 6-7hrs
Today, we again climb up about two hours through the lush forest on the west side of the Hinku Valley to Thuli Kharka. It's

wilderness and the peak we just climbed. The descent from the high crags can be icy. Finally we reach the forest and

The typical day on a camping trek
Each morning, around 6:15am, two smiling kitchen boys will wake you up with a hot cup of tea at your tent door. (If it is
the day of a pass crossing you will be woken around 3:00 am to get an early start.) It will take about half an hour to get
packed up and ready for the day. You will get a bowl of warm water to wash up. You might want to soak a small towel to
have a sponge bath. There are opportunities for bucket baths on rest days or, for those brave enough, a dip into a glacial
stream or river.
Breakfast is served at around 7:15 am. A typical breakfast includes items such as toast, Indian flat bread, Tibetan bread,
omelets, porridge/muesli, etc. We also serve Nepal-grown organic coffee. While you eat the staff will pack up your tents.
It’s good to get an early start walking while the air is clear and you get good views of the mountains, and before the sun is too
strong .
The group will stop for lunch after hiking 3 to 4 hours. It may be a hot lunch or a packed lunch. If time is short because
there is a long distance to cover or if water is not available there will be a packed lunch. Lunch time also allows time to rest,
and if a hot lunch is being prepared there is a little more time to relax.
After lunch, depending on the day you may hike between 2 to 4 hours. The tents will be erected for you and you will find
your duffel outside your tent. Tea and cookies will be served while you wait for dinner which is usually served around
6:00pm.
Typical dinner meals (or hot lunch) could consist of tasty dal-bhat (rice, lentils and vegetable or meat curry), Indian fried
bread, French-fries, tuna, Sherpa stew, spaghetti, momos (Tibetan pot-stickers), pizza, or noodles with soup. Trekkers are
often pleasantly surprised with the food.
After dinner there may be some singing and dancing with the staff. Most trekkers turn to their tents by 8:00 or 9:00 pm,
well ready to enjoy a sound sleep.
After breakfast, lunch and dinner you will need to fill up your water bottles with hot water. Although boiled water is safe to
drink, some trekkers prefer to take extra precaution by using iodine or chlorine drops.

We have a list of treks below where few tourists have ventured. These are “off the beaten track” camping treks.
Clothing and Equipment
Climbing 6000m-6500m Peaks
We plan our climbs at the best times of the year to maximize the chance of perfect climbing conditions. We start climbing
early in the day when the weather is calm and cool. Later in the day, bad weather can move in and winds can pick up. If
that happens, we are ready to head back down.
Climbing Gear for 6000m-6500m Peaks
The equipment on our list is sufficient for the climb. Save yourself the unnecessary expense of purchasing extra gear
besides what is mentioned in the equipment list. If conditions are not suitable for climbing, the decision will be made to
descend.
Our climbing guides will take into account more experienced climbers may wish to bring their preferred gear and continue
climbing in less favorable conditions.
Additional Gear:
This assumes you have all the trekking gear on the trekking equipment list:
high-quality sunglasses wrap-around or with side pieces (ski goggles are unnecessary)
neck gaiter or balaclava
thin liner gloves
wind-stopper/prima-loft gloves- fleece gloves and windproof mittens are available for a very reasonable price in
Kathmandu
windproof pants/climbing bibs - side-zip windproof pants are available for a very reasonable price in Kathmandu
snow gaiters
trekking pole
plastic boots - see below
Climbing Gear
You can rent or to buy complete sets of the below items in Kathmandu.
ice axe, non-technical is generally better
crampons

light harness (Black Diamond's Couloir is perfect)
jumar
belay device: ATC or figure- 8 etc
two locking carabiners, two non-locking ones
two prusik cords, one short, one long
Boots
If you have plastic boots, bring them. If you don't have a pair, and you are not a climber, you may prefer to rent boots in
Kathmandu.
Jacket
When it is sunny and there is no wind, a thermal top is enough, backed up by a fleece or light down jacket for rest stops. A
breathable windproof jacket is necessary if the wind picks up (Gore-Tex, Wind-stopper or the equivalent). All of these
items are available in Kathmandu at a reasonable price.
Helmet
It is always sensible to climb with a helmet, however, few climbers use helmets on trekking peaks as it is one more thing to
carry and it will only be used for a few hours. We leave this as an optional item.
What You Carry When You Climb
You will carry your personal gear in a day-pack with (down jacket, crampons, harness etc), which can end up quite full. If
anyone is struggling and the sherpas and/or guides have space, they can lighten your load.
