Sophomore Brian Trujillo moved from guard to center, with senior Brayton Medina mov- ing into the starting lineup at guard. Martin hopes the moves will help jump-start a running game that has not met expectations. The Aggies continue to produce in the passing game, and wideout OJ Clark is coming off a seven-catch, 113-yard out- ing. Still, quarterback Tyler Rogers was sacked seven times last week. NMSU’s defense continues to be much improved, particularly against the pass. The Aggies lead the Sun Belt Conference in fewest passing yards allowed and rank 12th nationally with 11 interceptions. Cornerback Shamad Lomax leads the way with four picks, but he’s out today with an ankle injury. Linebacker Dalton Herrington has filled in nicely. The senior ranks fifth in total tackles (11.3 per game), 17th in tackles for loss (1.5 per game) and 21st in solo tackles (5.6 per game). “Dalton has had a phenom- enal year,” coach Doug Martin said. “He’s the best leader we have on our football team, vocally and by example. He’s been awesome.” >>> NMSU lost several players to inju- ries against Arkansas State. Cornerback Shamad Lomax (ankle), safety Jaden Wright (hamstring) and wideout Izaiah Lottie (ankle) will not play today. Offensive lineman Jamin Smith (shoulder) is ques- tionable. On the plus side, defensive end Stody Bradley, safety Jacob Nwangwa and cornerback Komotay Koffie will return to action after missing last week’s game. >>> It’s fair to say Texas State is under- going a youth movement this season. It is one of just nine programs nationally to have started five true freshmen in a game. This week’s depth chart includes 14 starters who are either sophomores or freshmen. >>> The Bobcats have struggled on offense for most of the season, ranking 117th nationally in total yards per game (329.5). The numbers improved quite a bit after last week’s 27-7 win over Coastal Carolina, in which Texas State amassed a season-best 507 yards. The Bobcats have scored a Sun Belt Conference-low 121 points this season. >>> Texas State coaches have not needed to travel extensively on recruiting trips. Of the 107 players listed on the Bob- cats’ roster, 94 are from Texas. BOBCAT NOTES SCOUTING THE BOBCATS Texas State’s offense finally kicked into gear in last week’s 27-7 victory over Coastal Carolina, but most of the season has been a struggle. The Bob- cats average just 15.1 points per game and have turned the ball over 14 times. Quarterback Damian Williams is coming off a strong outing and brings a legitimate run-pass option to the table. Williams has rushed for four touchdowns this season. Sophomore running back Anthony D. Taylor is the primary threat in the Bobcats’ rushing game. Texas State has played reasonably well on defense. The Bobcats rank second in the Sun Belt against the run and have done an effective job on third and fourth downs. Linebackers Bryan London III and Gabe Loyd have been top playmakers. The Bob- cats have been more vulnerable against the pass and have not intercepted a pass all season. Offensive line issues plagued New Mexico State in last week’s loss to Arkansas State, and coach Doug Martin shuffled some players this week in response. Sophomore Brian Trujillo moved from guard to center, with senior Brayton Medina mov-ing into the starting lineup at guard. Martin hopes the moves will help jump-start a running game that has not met expectations. The Aggies continue to produce in the passing game, and wideout OJ Clark is coming off a seven-catch, 113-yard out-ing.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES

AGGIE NOTES>>> NMSU’s defense had a major hole

to fill when national tackles leader Rodney Butler exhausted his eligibility last season. Linebacker Dalton Herrington has filled in nicely. The senior ranks fifth in total tackles (11.3 per game), 17th in tackles for loss (1.5 per game) and 21st in solo tackles (5.6 per game). “Dalton has had a phenom-enal year,” coach Doug Martin said. “He’s the best leader we have on our football team, vocally and by example. He’s been awesome.”

>>> NMSU lost several players to inju-ries against Arkansas State. Cornerback Shamad Lomax (ankle), safety Jaden Wright (hamstring) and wideout Izaiah Lottie (ankle) will not play today. Offensive lineman Jamin Smith (shoulder) is ques-tionable. On the plus side, defensive end Stody Bradley, safety Jacob Nwangwa and cornerback Komotay Koffie will return to action after missing last week’s game.

>>> It’s fair to say Texas State is under-going a youth movement this season.

Of the 107 players listed on the Bob-cats’ roster, 94 are from Texas.

BOBCAT NOTES

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS

Texas State’s offense finally kicked into gear in last week’s 27-7 victory over Coastal Carolina, but most of the season has been a struggle. The Bob-cats average just 15.1 points per game and have turned the ball over 14 times. The Bob-cats have been more vulnerable against the pass and have not intercepted a pass all season.
