2013! Today is about learning, sharing, and experiencing, because we know how overwhelming, stressful, and occasionally terrifying it can be

to lead an Interact club. Everyone here today is a leader regardless of where they come from or what they’ve done, and we know the amount of effort and drive you have exerted in your academic and extracurricular careers has led to this moment. As you learn about others’ Interact journeys, share your own. How did you get here? Why are you here? Experience this event and take it all in. You are part of the group of individuals who keep Interact alive and thriving year after year, and we’re excited that you’ve decided to tackle becoming a leader of leaders.

When you were growing up, what did you dream you would become? Were your dreams deliciously impractical and whimsically unrealistic? We, Dauntless District Council, believe that Disney and Pixar taught us first and foremost to believe in ourselves to make our dreams come true. This year, we want you to apply the influence of self-actualization to your life, and empower change in your own life and also in your local and international communities. Go back to those crazy dreams and spirit and channel it. Believe in yourself and in Interact this coming year, and little by little, the dream you wish will come true.

Hey there, Pal! I’m Jamie Lam, and much like Mike was Sully’s #1 supporter in Monsters Inc., I’m here today with Dauntless DC to be a friend and fellow leader. Like Mike, there’s not a lot of height attached to my name, but that doesn’t mean I’m any smaller in leadership or achievement. In fact, our flaws, mistakes, and inconsistencies all serve as components of the experiences that force us to learn. I could drink endless amounts of milk, do odd stretches, and jump everyday. Or I can embrace what I have and use it to grow (albeit not literally.) Why are you here today at NPM? Whether you’re a new officer or a returning one, an Interactor who doesn’t quite know what we do or an Interactor who understands this club like the back of your hand, I want to ask you this: what do you wish to achieve by being here today at NPM? Whatever your vision is, we are here to help you reach it. A leader who chooses to work diligently in the background, a middle individual who communicates and socializes, and an upfront and close up leader are the variables needed for a successful district. And it is you. Take today to learn more about applying your leadership to foster successful Interactors who bring clubs into fruition. How are you all doing today? I hope it’s better than good. Otherwise, I might just have to put a smile on your face! This

summer, I was off in Neverland watching some Lost Boys and Girls. I had quite the time reading them stories and playing games; it was wonderful! I even flew with all of my Day Camp staff, and if you want to know how to fly, ask me and I just might let you in on my secret. Whenever I’m in the real world, I love volunteering with Interact. It reminds me of the goodness of everything and everyone. Just ask Peter, he would agree! Or Tink, she’s a magnificent little creature! The only thing we disagree upon is growing up. Never is an awfully long time though, so don’t be afraid to reach for new heights!

To volunteer, fundraise, and create a family are things we oftentimes overlook, but Interact has helped me re-look at my life. Ni hao Interactors! I am Mulan, and though many of you might know me by my alias as soldier boy Ping, sorry ladies,

but I’m a girl. When I’m not saving China with my sidekick Mushu or climbing extremely tall objects, I love to hang out with

my friends, play tennis, and of course take part in Interact. There was a time when I was once afraid of my own reflection. I thought if I showed people who I truly was, I would break my family’s heart because I was not the perfect bride or daughter. Interact has taught me that I am perfect just the way I am and that I do not need to hide my true self to be a great Interactor. Instead, you must be as swift as the coursing river, with all the force of a great typhoon, with all the strength of a raging fire, and as mysterious as the dark side of the moon! We are all different in our own ways, and our differences make each and every one of us special. You all bring different talents to Interact that you use toward a cause worth fighting for. I hope all of you warriors have an amazing time at NPM!

for NPM is Russell from the movie UP. I believe Russell is quite l i k e me in the service aspect; we both love to help others, and a job is never done because the “WILDERNESS MUST BE EXPLORED! CA-CA! RAAWWRR!” Service is a big part of my daily lifestyle and one of the biggest reasons I am who I am. I’m a very friendly person, and of course I will be wearing my wilderness explorer uniform at NPM. Make sure to stop by and say hello if you see me walking around. Don’t be shy, you have to explore! Other than that, I’d like to say that NPM will be an adventure for all of you. Keep an open mind and enjoy your time as this is a place where you will grow as a leader and learn new things. I play sports like badminton and volleyball, and I run for fun to get in shape a n d to relax. I have a strange love for granola bars and stuffed animals. Service is my life, and I can’t find another activity where I feel such fulfillment. Interact is my life because if you put yourself out there and truly experience everything Interact has to offer, you discover a part of you that you’ve never known before, whether it be your potential, a shortcoming that needs improvement, or passion. Besides that, I’m a total foodie and I know really good restaurants in the Bay Area, but it’s Asian food mostly. I eat more than male swimmers do, and I spend the rest of my time trying to work it off! I hope I get to meet all of you and learn about your Interact experiences!

One of my favorite hobbies is coming up with cool inventions from random objects! I’m also actually braver than the other fairies, too! I’m not scared when it comes to getting close to humans! A few facts about myself: I have an (un)healthy addiction to fruit, I love drawing/painting/animating, and I am infatuated with all types of music. Oh, and I’m travel-sized for your convenience! While fighting the Huns, both Mulan and I were able to recognize our true worth; now we would like to empower all of you to utilize your unique talents and capabilities to help Interact blossom and grow. As I have recently been reappointed to the status of a Guardian, please feel free to talk to me if you ever have any questions or need any help! Service above Self is a goal worth fighting for. from the Pizza Planet. When I am not reigning in my minions, I love to read, play games, and go out for food

(and subsequently bike to keep my potato bod). Although in real life I don’t have alien minions and a wife that packs my lunch into my back along with my angry eyes, I reserve the right to detach my limbs at will and to be the most exciting spy ever. (Who else can pop out their eyes and stick them under doors to see the other side?) However, I was influenced to step out of my comfort zone and create long lasting friendships! Hi guys, it’s Lola Luftnagle! Just kidding! My name is Yuri Wada, and I am your Co-Social Media Coordinator for the 2013-2014 school year! I am a senior at Lynbrook High School in Area 12, and I enjoy volunteering, playing field hockey, shopping, sewing, cooking (trust me, I won’t make my oven explode… again), and talking to people. Having had the opportunity to see the less fortunate people through spending my childhood in Malaysia, helping others has always been my biggest passion. Interact significantly added a positive spin to my volunteering career. I joined the club one rainy day in the spring of my freshmen year. It was freezing cold outside, and I really needed a room to stay in during brunch. And of course, the room I entered happened to be the Interact room (bona fide fate). Interact truly changed my life, and I feel extremely exultant and blessed to be here, serving the district with the 6,500 other beautiful Interactors. (Thank you tempestuous weather, I love you.) Unfortunately, I did not know about Interact on the district level until near the end of my junior year, which makes me especially hope that each and every one of you will continue to inspire the people who may not know how amazing Interact really is. Everyone deserves to know that Interact is not merely a service club, but rather a big warm family!

Hello everyone and welcome to NPM! Today, you’ll meet the strangest characters from all over D5170. My name’s Karl, but others call me Hiccup. Great name, I know...but it’s not the worst! It’s used to scare off the dragons around my town. I’m privileged to tell you that I am your Co-Events Coordinator alongside the beautiful K i r s t i n Fong. Although I may be one of the more outspoken leaders, I still have self confidence issues. Confidence is my biggest struggle within myself. In my community, everyone told me to stop being myself and act like the rest of the crowd because they thought I was different. But I’m here to tell you that different is good; great, actually! I am very passionate about Interact, but I also enjoy playing volleyball, listening to great music, spending time with awesome people, learning new things, making people smile, and of course, flying my dragon, Toothless! I am always open to new friends, so build up your confidence and say hi! Your time on Earth is limited, but the things you do with that time are not. As long as you be yourself and are happy with that, you can change the way anything is done. Just like I am doing today! The more independence you have, the better leaders you all can become! I hope you are all excited for an eventful Interact year!

in Livermore (AREA 3!), and I am one of your COMMUNITY COORDINATORS this year! Back in the awkward days of middle

school, I remember watching Hannah Montana regularly instead of being trapped in my room doing schoolwork... funny how times change. Hannah and her friends were always positive, and they made the best of both of their “worlds.” Having the experience of both Interact and high is unique and special. Not only do you get the traditional high school experience, but outside of school you are also a part of the fabulous District 5170! Hannah is the loud, outspoken, unafraid side of Miley. Together, Hannah and her BFF Lola (AKA Lilly) made it through everything. Make the most of your team this year to take on the challenges ahead and finish stronger than you started. Above all, Hannah and Lilly were just teenagers. Despite having a leadership position in Interact, we are first and foremost simply Interactors. Enjoy NPM and good luck this year!

Wingapo, everyone! I’m Meeko the raccoon (Wendy Gao)! I’m from the beautiful Silicon Valley near the Pacific Ocean,

and I’ve come here to help you guys learn my ways! Before the English settled in Jamestown, I was just a raccoon that liked to

eat, find food, adventure, and hang around the Natives, especially Pocahontas! I was more independent, and I lived simply to live. However, after Percy came, I discovered Interact! Interact has blessed me, a mere raccoon, with friends and family, and it has taught me the importance of service! Instead of just messing around with the Natives, I’ve now want to help them instead! Interact has made me more open, humble, and compassionate. Interact has also taught me to step out of my comfort zones by going out there saying “Wingapo” to everyone new I see! Today, I encourage you guys to step out of your independent, comfortable selves, and join Percy and I (and of course the rest of the Interactors) on this adventure to discover the Leader spirits inside of each of you guys! Ana, Interactors—it’s time for me to go back exploring.

While I’m not spending time with my dear friends Daisy and Mickey down in A1, I absolutely love running cross-country, acting, singing, dancing, skiing, and volunteering. This past summer, I worked on my Girl Scout Gold Award Project, in which I ran a summer camp for these darling kids at Alameda Point Collaborative, a formerly homeless housing unit in my hometown. I am oh-so-excited to work with all you wonderful people and make a difference in others’ lives because it is a small world after all. XOXO

When I’m not busy keeping my appendages from being yanked off by zealous children, I spend my time with Interactors! I am excited to have the privilege of being your Secretary for the 2013-2014 Interact year! I look forward to meeting everyone at NPM and getting to know everyone better throughout the year. At the end of the day, despite our differences in position, passion, or experience with falling appendages, we are all the same. We are all Interactors.
