Redeeming points for a flight award

As a travel manager, you have two choices when redeeming points:

Redeem points for a flight certificate to use at a later time

• This is a great option if your employees book their own travel. Forward the certificate and the recipient can use it to book their next business trip and save money at the same time.

• Certificates also make great gifts (top performers, raffle winners, …) and can be a great motivator to improve team performance.

Redeem points directly for travel - skipping the certificate step

Use this option if you are booking travel for your employees. It’s much easier to book the reservation and use the points as currency immediately.

You’ll receive the certificate via email and the recipient or traveler can redeem that certificate for travel online or by phone.

From the Flights tab on the Redeem Points page, choose American or Partner, award region, and cabin of service from the award chart. You can click on the award code to see the award Terms and Conditions.

Click ‘Redeem Now’.

The Redeem Points pop-up summarizes the award scope, award point value and your current balance.

Enter the quantity of awards you want to redeem. The certificate will be emailed to all Travel Managers registered on the account. Agree to the Terms and Conditions and click ‘Confirm’.

The confirmation page will have the Authorization Number and award expiration. The recipient of the certificate will use the authorization number when booking award travel.

Once redemption is complete, an email is sent to all Travel Managers registered on the account. The email includes authorization numbers for each award ordered – the traveler will need this email when booking and ticketing their travel.

Details of the point redemption are on your Account Summary, on the Transactions tab.

You can click on the arrow to view redemption details like award type, confirmation number and authorization number.

Redeeming a flight certificate for travel

WIth a flight certificate, you can go directly to business.aa.com to shop and book your award travel. Simply enter the authorization number from your certificate and book your trip. No login, no profile, and no phone calls needed.

As a Business Extra travel manager, you can skip the certificate step by simply logging in to businessextra.com and clicking ‘Book Award Travel’. You can shop and book PlanAhead and Anytime award availability, for all cabins. Once the reservation is booked, the points will be deducted directly from your Business Extra account. It’s that easy.

1. Log into businessextra.com

2. Click ‘Book Award Travel’ (upper right corner)

3. Select ‘Business Extra Awards’

4. Book the flight – you can select PlanAhead or Anytime during the booking process

5. At checkout, choose ‘Redeem points from Account’
