The Business of Flight

When it came time to choose a university, I felt like I was being pulled in every direction. Deciding to come to Embry-Riddle was the best decision I have made. Now, I am not only pursuing a Bachelor degree in Business Administration, but also, an MBA at the same time. Embry-Riddle has provided me with the resources and opportunities to succeed and get involved.

In athletics, the school had four district championships, four regional runner-up teams, 26 all area athletes, and nine individual state qualifiers. Six seniors received full athletic scholarships. Seven students received their Associate of Arts degrees before their high school diploma. During Honors Night on May 18th, the community supported our school with 218 scholarships totally over $605,000. The Legacy Walk on May 20th was a memory filled event, as the senior class took one final walk across the campus as high school seniors. Clubs, sports, and classes created posters and displays that honored the senior’s involvement in their high school career. Senior Class Sponsor, Ms. Flanagan, then hosted the senior breakfast where students gathered to eat, socialize, and sign yearbooks before leaving for the day. Baccalaureate was held on May 24th at the New Smyrna Beach Baptist Church. Ms. Teresa Tyson, Teacher of the Year, presided over the “Ceremony of Autonomy.” The following student leaders gave inspirational messages dedicated to family, faculty, faith, friends and community. • Andrew Musgrove • Brianna Warren • Cathryn Holley• Shreya Patel • Ashton Sigler The Commencement Exercises were held on May 28, 9:00 a.m., at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. The class of 2016 Senior Class together to produce their traditional Senior Board. This board mirrors the class flower and class quote that the entire class voted on earlier in the year. Art students in the Drawing and painting classes worked on developing and constructing the board that the entire class will sign during their last day on campus, after their legacy walk. The AP and Portfolio Senior students worked diligently to finish the creative board in time for its signing. This traditional board will represent the Class of 2016 and will be on display on the Senior Hall in building five. Class of 2017, you need to start thinking and getting ready for your senior board!!!!

New Vocational Dual Enrollment Options For School Year 2016-2017

News from the Sea Cadets On Memorial Day, the Sea Cadets here at New Smyrna Beach High School participated in a ceremony at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse honoring our veterans who have died for this country. It was a humbling experience and one we hope to continue. We are very thankful for each veteran who fought and died for our freedom and democracy. Please consider joining the Sea Cadets here at New Smyrna Beach High School. If you have any questions, you can contact Lt. Welch at [email protected] . The process for becoming a Sea Cadet begins with the Daytona Division of Sea Cadets. They provide uniforms and training. We hope everyone has a great summer and if you see a veteran please thank him/her for their service. The Sea Cadets is a charted youth organization developed by the Navy to give youth an opportunity to become better American citizens and have them gain a better understanding of what our military does. During the summer and winter time we have to leave our families to go to trainings to advance through the ranks and train with active duty personnel. The Sea Cadets can train with SEALS (Sea, Air and Land), EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal), and SWCC (Special Warfare Combatant Craft Crewman), for example. Many things we do is a once in a lifetime opportunity and you can travel around the United States and possibly the world if you’re selected for international exchange. You would not regret it if you joined this program as you make friends for life and form a brotherhood for life.
