SUPERIOR IDEASBy John M. Henricksen, CPA, Chief Financial Officer

A couple months ago, we set up a new email address, [email protected] to help facilitate the flow

of ideas for moving the company in the right direction. I wanted to thank those who have provided us with some of their ideas. I also found that by asking for your ideas, information has been flowing from all di-

rections. I have spoken with many of you in the parking lot, in the hallway, in meetings and even in the repair shop in Michigan. I have received some wonderful ideas: from putting contact information on rigs to new

creative ways to improve office pro-ductivity. This shows me the incredibly committed and creative people in our organization and I love hearing from all of you. I am going to try to get out and meet with all the station personnel and office personnel in order to learn more of these great ideas rather than wait for them to come through my inbox, however, feel free to use the email if I do not get out to you soon enough for you to express your idea.

Hello,

On the evening of July 5th, our daughter fell off her long board on a down hill. She struck her head and went into seizure. She was taken by C.F.D. ambulance to Sherman Hospital in El-gin, IL. After a CT Scan the ER Physician determined that they could not provide the level of care necessary and ordered a Life Flight to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois.

Nurse, Eric Amar; Paramedic, Rob Orta; and Pilot, Phil Huth arrived at Sherman Hospital a short time after the call to transport our daughter.

From the moment they walked into the ER they acted in the most professional, focused, expert manner I have ever wit-nessed. These men knew exactly what their mission was and performed it with precision. They brought calm and control to a chaotic situation, being able to get the physician to focus and provide them with all the information they needed before they moved our daughter, realizing that her life depended on it.

The following day Eric showed up at Lutheran General Hos-pital to check on our daughter!

We are forever grateful for the dedication and professionalism these men brought to traumatic situation, along with all the support personal at Superior Ambulance who we have not had the pleasure of meeting.

Payroll 411

The “After Tax Deduction” section can be very confusing. If

you have a deduction with a positive amount, it means that

deduction is being taken out of your net amount. A nega-

tive deduction is given back to you after your taxes have

been calculated. Example- After Tax Amount is $1000.00,

Uniform Deduction $50.00, Total Check Amount $950.00.

Example 2 After Tax Amount is $1000.00, Pager Deduction

$-50.00, Total Check Amount $1050.00.

We work the Sox games in the rain or shine. The Crews are empathetic, caring and kind.

We take these patients to hospitals far and close. Here are the ones we go to the most.

There are Holy Cross, Saint Mary’s and TrinityMt Sinai, Mercy and Rush University.

And no matter where we goWe are always fast, never slow

We always use the motto TLCSThis is what we work by and we would expect no less.

So we hope you liked what we had to sayYou all take care now, and have a Superior day!!!

MichiganSummer Has Arrived...And So Have The Concerts!By Dick Busch, Special Events Liaison

SPECIAL EVENTS

On June 25, 2011 Superior Ambulance was tasked with relocating over 100 patients from the Berteau location of Elmhurst Memorial Hospital to the Brush Hill location. Crewmembers arrived at 4:30 in the morning to check out their ambulances, find their assigned gear and go to a morn-ing briefing to learn their exact roles for the day.

At 6:00 in the morning 15 ALS ambulances and five CCT ambulances were in place and ready to start moving pa-tients to their new rooms. Each ALS ambulance had three separate crews to help with down time. The first ambulance left shortly after 6:00 am and the move was on its way! By 11:00 am all of the patient were relocated and the ambu-lance teams were on their way home.

This is one of the fastest planned hospital relocations, and we have already received phone calls from several other hospitals asking questions on how we completed the move so quickly. A great job was done by everyone that helped out! Thank you!

The weather has finally warmed up, and the concert season is in full swing. Superior provides EMS coverage for two outdoor venues as well the Palace of Auburn Hills. Our largest outdoor venue is DTE Energy Music Theater. DTE holds approxi-mately 16,000 people in both the pavilion and on the lawn. Many top name entertainers per-form there, such as Tim McGraw, Aretha Franklin, Pat Benatar, Bob Seger, Lil Wayne and Keith Urban. Last year nearly 900,000 music fans passed through the gates, and all EMS was provided by Superior Paramedics, with many medical emergencies treated on scene or trans-ported out. Superior covers nearly 80 concerts throughout the summer, and provides outstanding medical service to all who attend.

Dispatchers Handle Attempted Abduction CallBy Marisa Cotton, 9-1-1 Director, Cicero

On June 7, Jean LaBrusk and Carlo Rizzo handled a call of an attempted abduction in progress. Jean LaBrusk received the call and did an excellent job trying to calm down the hysterical female and was able to give a good location and offender information. Carlo Rizzo immediately dispatched police to the scene and kept the units updated as Jean contin-ued to obtain further information. Jean and Carlo worked very well together and were able to get the call out quickly which assisted the responding officers in locating and arresting the offender. Good Job!

Leyden Fire Desk Shines During HillsideBox AlarmBy Donald Nielsen, Interim Executive Director

On June 9, hazardous weather conditions led to a hazmat box alarm being called in Hillside that went to a third alarm, and an interdivisional response. Tom Woulfe and Lindsey Schwartz were assigned to the Fire Desk, and handled the incident ex-tremely well, despite a high volume of calls also coming into the center. The composure of Tom and Lindsey along with the teamwork shown by the employees that night is a reason why we are one of the best MABAS centers in the State. Keep it up!

Leyden Station Tackles SevereWeather ConditionsBy Donald Nielsen, Interim Executive Director

On June 21, and again on June 30, the Leyden station was af-fected by adverse conditions, including a power loss and dam-age to our radio tower. Despite the conditions, our crew was up to the task. In less than 3 1/2 hours, more than 600 emergency calls were processed on June 21, and June 30 was nearly as hectic. Both times, the same dispatch shift was on duty, and our thanks go out to them for a phenomenal job. In addition, we had several employees who braved the weather to come in and help out and handle the extra call load. A special thank you to the Norcomm Alarm technicians: Manager Randy Ka-minsky, Don Jirsa, Anthony Wellington, and Ray Budlove. Without our techs, we would not have been able to get the an-cillary power into the dispatch center and keep things running. Great job to all of you!

Great Job, Dawn!By Lisa Knowski9-1-1 Director, Norcomm/River Grove Police Dept.

I would like to take a mo-ment to commend Telecom-municator Dawn Macak for doing a great job on June 02,

2011. The Norcomm/River Grove 911Center received a 911 call from a male advising his wife had just stabbed him with a kitchen knife and fled their home and was trying to leave in a vehicle. Dawn gathered all the information and dispatched the police and fire units. Dawn stayed on the phone with the victim until the units arrived on scene. While on the phone the responding units located the vehicle in the rear of Dominicks and the female was taken into custody without incident. Dawn remained calm and handled the situation in a very professional manner. The 911 Center in River Grove only has one telecom-municator working on each shift, Dawn dispatched the police and fire units and remained on the phone during all this radio traffic. Dawn is great asset to my team.

Melrose Park Residential Fire Injures SevenBy Donald Nielsen, Interim Executive Director

On June 24, we received a report of a structure fire in Melrose Park with people trapped inside. Our staff (Lisa Conti, Sta-cy O’Connor, Jamie Roberson, Joanna Ceballos, Trainee Cassie Ceballos, Falon Adams, and Jamie McClellan) all worked together expediting units to the scene. Falon, Joanna, and Cassie all translated calls for assistance, and units were able to take seven people from the home to area hospitals, and the box alarm was quickly struck. The staff that day did a fantastic job, and thanks to their quick response respond-ers were able to get on scene and rescue seven people. Great teamwork from our Police and Fire Dispatchers!

Team WorkBy Dionne Jones, 911 Director

The recent storms caused a considerable amount of dam-age in the Village. Everyone worked to handle hundreds of calls from citizens. I would like thank everyone for work-ing together as a team and seeing that each call was han-dled in the most professional and caring manner. Each of you showed exceptional un-derstanding and patience with every caller. Great job.
