I-70 TRAFFIC PHASING:• On July 11, westbound I-70 mainline traffi c will be transferred to the
temporary bypass via temporary crossover west of the existing New Stanton interchange. One to two weeks later, eastbound I-70 mainline traffi c will be diverted to the temporary bypass east of Hunter-Waltz Mill Road.
• Relocating I-70 traffi c to the temporary bypass will facilitate the following construction activity:
- Six lane reconstruction of two miles of I-70 mainline
- Construction of two I-70 mainline overhead bridges for the new New Stanton interchange
• All I-70 traffi c will be using the temporary bypass before the end of July 2016, and will be returned to the newly constructed mainline in November 2016.
- The I-70 temporary bypass will carry two lanes of traffi c in each direction during daylight hours, but motorists may encounter single lane restrictions in either direction during nighttime hours.
HUNKER DETOUR: (SEE FIGURE A)• State Route (SR) 3089 traffi c to I-70 eastbound is detoured via
Pennsylvania Avenue, Center Avenue and the existing New Stanton interchange eastbound on ramp (Exit 57B).
• I-70 westbound traffi c to SR 3089 remains detoured via the New Stanton interchange westbound off ramp (Exit 57B), Center Avenue, and Pennsylvania Avenue.
• Three temporary signals on Center Avenue are activated to facilitate the detour traffi c at the existing New Stanton interchange.
Efective Monday, July 11, 2016, PennDOT will close the remaining portion of the I-70/ Hunker interchange (I-70/SR 3089) to continue construction of the new New Stanton interchange. The closure will require I-70 mainline traffi c to divert to a temporary bypass immediately north of the existing interstate from July through November 2016.
