Deployment of CA Client Automation* / Connect SCCM
Agent deployment time consuming(a lot of OS and constraints linked withproduction)
Search for installed software on 30.000 devices• Windows: easy (ARP ref)• Unix: easy (usage RPM) to complex (no PKG)• Results: 3.600 Manufacturers and 30.000 products
Search by signature• Unknown software must be created in the catalog• Complex work to do (you must know what you are looking for)
Specific script for software options • Good knowledge of the software necessary• Security: Access must be allowed at DB
CA Client Automation• Deployment easy and quick (virtual
machine) • Standard Connector for SCCM

Interfaces developed by Natixis• Target: collect all relevant information necessary
for calculation usage
Product recognition• Reconciliation between an article and discovered software• Windows (ARP): 82% - Unix (Heuristic): 53% • Recognition results: 98 Manufacturers and 900 Products
• Actual limit of our internal process : PUR are not contained in the ContractRepository.
• Manual treatment to formalize PUR in repository

Result of this phase :• Respect of the contractual due dates (tool accelerates the calculation)
• Control of the installed and used software (script of collection and calculation rule identified and created for every product)
• Identification of over and under use of products (Limitation of use for Sharepoint and Lync advanced function)
• Reduction of the usually committed amount (spend exactly the real usage)

PROJECT SUMMARY
Managing a Successful Software Asset Management Project
26 © 2014 CA. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
Good software compliance is based on 3 elements :
– Time To deploy and manage the inventory Agent
To define and improve the collection of inventory data (Signature Catalog, Interface)
– Knowledge : We discover only what we already know and find more easily what we already know we have purchased
To identify which information is necessary to calculate the usage, where to find it and how to create the calculation rules (no assumptions!)
– Quality To get a reliable data source.
Work to improve the reliability of the data.
LESSONS LEARNED
The SAM Tool is just a means to accelerate the calculation
The human being guarantees the result!
