Writing task

A verb is also known as a 'doing word'. Verbs describe an action, state or occurrence.

Read the sentences below and circle the verbs:

1. Daniel ran in the race.

2. Lilly danced for her exam.

3. Jessica read her favourite books.

4. Guinea Pigs eat fresh vegetables.

5. The sun shone brightly.

Now choose 3 of the sentences above and rewrite them changing the verb.

For example Daniel hopped in the race.

Reading task:

Having good comprehension means to be able to understand something.

Watch Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRAAQ8EWzig&t=66s

After you have watched this test your comprehension skills by seeing if you can answer the following questions:

1.What did the little boy find on his doorstep?

2.How did the penguin feel when the boy left him?

3.Tick the word that describes the South Pole.

hoticymuddy

4.Tick or cross to show if the statements below are true or false:

They walked to the South Pole.

The penguin was lonely.

Science – Seasonal Change

It is now Summer.

In Summer the weather is usually warmer, the sun rises earlier and stays up later, the flowers are all in full bloom and the trees are full of leaves.

Next time you go for a walk look for signs of Summer.

Draw a picture of yourself on a Summer's day and write a sentence underneath to tell us about it.

Topic –To understand why particular animals live in polar habitats.

The penguin from our comprehension book ‘Lost and Found’ was from the South Pole. Do you know why penguins live there and not somewhere sunny?

Penguins live in the South Pole because the cold water has more of the fish they like to eat in it than warmer water. The cold does not bother the penguins as their bodies have layers of fat called blubber to help keep them warm (they also like to huddle up to each other to keep warm too.)

Think about the penguin on the little boys doorstep-can you write a letter as if you were the penguin asking the little boy to take him home? Try to use some of the information I gave you above in your letter.

Extra Challenge!

The Lowry are asking Salford residents to share their creative responses to the lockdown – these could be poems, stories, videos, photos or art works which reflect your experiences.

These works will be shared online from 1st July until The Lowry re-opens and then they will be displayed in the gallery.

Submissions should be sent to: [email protected]
