We're overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from friends and strangers on the day of our wedding shower. One of the things that I think can be hard for youth group students to understand is the way in which we “graduate” them from church. To be sure, I love our tradition of honoring and celebrating our seniors each year. I think it is so worth giving the spotlight to whomever in the church is achieving. That being said, sometimes it can feel, even if only subconsciously, that as they graduate from high school, from youth group, and so many other things, they can feel like they are graduating from church. We certainly always encourage our students to plug into Christian community wherever they find themselves as they move on but often times for seniors across the nation, church is another thing that gets left behind with graduation. The primary focus of our Fall Retreat this year is in asking our students to take ownership of their church wherever and whenever they are. For now, that is here at Park Avenue. After Park Avenue, I hope they will lean into Christian community again. It starts with an understanding that Christ did not just die for me as an individual, but as Paul tells us Christ died for the bride, the church. Bless- ings on you this Lord’s day. Sermon Notes

Why Christmas?

Don't lose the Spiritual __________ of Christmas.

Don't miss the Spiritual __________ of Christmas.

Don't forget the Spiritual __________ of the world.

We are honored to have you with us this morning. A warm welcome to all our members — how good and pleasant it is for us to worship together! And a special welcome to our guests! Please take a few

minutes to visit with us after services. Stop by the welcome centers in the main hallways for more information and a free gift from us. Let us know how we can serve you.

creation. Christ’s coming was announced with shouts of joy and celebrated with the hope of peace and good will. May those senti-ments be the most treasured gifts of the season. I want to give you advanced notice of a special service we are planning for January 3—the first Sunday of 2016. We are calling it Covenant Sunday and are challenging all PACOC members to make a spiritual resolution as we enter into a new year. It is my belief that the church is a powerful spiritual influence in our world and that influence is dependent on full participation from the entire body. It’s also my belief that we find our greatest purpose and deepest peace as we live out our disciple-ship to Jesus. On Covenant Sunday we will renew our vows to the Lord as a church and as individuals. This service has the potential to change our church and our lives for 2016 and into eternity. You’ll be hearing more about Covenant Sunday in the weeks to come. Set you hearts and minds into worship mode as we come before the Lord with gladness!

Good morning and welcome to our gath-ering. We’re so glad

you have joined us. As you read through the Messenger you’ll see a number of activities we have planned for the Christmas Holidays. They’re all designed to help us all embrace the joy and spirit of the holiday. I do admit, however, that at times instead of helping us embrace the holiday all these events lead us to dreading all the commitments we make. Instead of embracing we sometimes end up enduring! That said, during our sermon times this month I will try to lead us into truly appreciating all that the coming of Christ means to us personally and to the world in general. Wouldn’t it be a shame if the celebration passes and we are not drawn more into this wonderful story of redemption and grace? Christmastime can be distorted and abused leading us away from the virtues and peace God has called us to, and shame on us if we don’t seize and lay claim to this opportunity to be reminded of God’s plan for His
