Dear Parents/Carers

Swan View Show Once again the staff and students made a very fine contribution to the local show. A special thanks must go to Mr Jamie Polich for taking all the work up to Brown Park and making sure it was aesthetically arranged.

Congratulations to Shiloh Dhue, the winner of the cover design for the 2014 show booklet. She was most surprised to hear she had won. Thank you Mr Durant for supplying the entries to the show. We won several accolades for creative work including the toy giraffes made by Miss O’Shaughnessy’s A6s.

Sick children If your child has a tummy upset or bad cold symptoms it is a good idea to keep them home and rested. This way they are not spreading their germs to others. You really have to use your common sense when it comes to nits, ringworms and school sores. Each of these needs treatment and/or covering

before returning to school.

Book lists Please be reminded to take some ac-tion with regard to the children's learn-ing requirements before the end of the holidays. The fees and charges can be negotiated with the office staff if you are not able to make full first pay-ments. We know how hard it is with two or more children in the family to cover the costs up front.

Classes for 2014 Class structures have not yet been set for next year so there is small window of opportunity for parents and carers to let me know, in writing, if you have is-sues you might wish me to consider.

Library News by Helen McGinniss

A great book that we have in the library is called Kid’s Night In! ( a great present) and it is a collection of

stories, jokes, cartoons and tips from Australian authors, illustrators and celebrities.

One of the authors is Anthea Paul and in her article “Junior Girlosophy” she writes about three types of

children. Please share these with your children.

ARTHOUSE CHILD Honour and respect other people, but don’t be afraid to be creative and artistic in your approach to your life.

You are an individual! Think big and think deep. Imagination rules the world. And it’s your life’s work!

REAL CHILD No one can teach you about real courage. Being a brave person means you’ll have to stump up at some point

in your life. When you need to make a hard move or decision, or to speak up for yourself or someone else.

DO IT. These are the turning points that will shape your future.

EDIBLE CHILD Be experimental with food. Try everything once. Don’t screw up your nose and say you don’t like it just

because you haven’t had it before. Think about the first people-they had to try to eat things and they had no

idea! It’s all new experience. So, go on: eat it!

Music News

On Wednesday December 4th the Swan View Primary School Choir went to Centrepoint Shop-

ping centre to sing Christmas carols and songs. I think the crowd favourite was Grandma got

run over by a reindeer. It was a great success. The choir will be doing one more outing. On

Thurs Dec 19th the choir will make a return visit to Morrison Lodge to sing Christmas songs

and carols for the senior citizens there. We hope to make this a regular event.

Merry Christmas from Mr Schoenmakers

WE ARE THE WINNERS! On November 26th we took part in the Coalition of Midland Schools spelling bee. Earlier the children had been given copies of the Premier’s word list, so that they could brush up on their spelling. There were general words and catego-ries of words. It was quite difficult and especially so when we got the category of religious words! However, our stu-dents Kira Quain, Kamella Henare-Thomas, Taya Woods, Maddison Gee, Hapai Smith, Pheonix Dunn and Jovic Lana did a grand job and we are very proud of them.

Canteen News by Teresa Elzer

The Thermomix has been a great addition to the canteen and the students have been enjoying fresh homemade fruit ice creams and custards. It has been a great year in the canteen. This is possible with the support of the P & C and amazing volunteers who give up their precious time to help make the canteen an affordable, healthy service for our children. I’d like to thank the following people: Lorrie, Gaye, Natalie, Lakmali, Di. Kym, Tracey, Renae, Pele, Amanda, Neecole, Tennile, Ken, Donna, Catherine, Bethany, Emily, Marissa, Kristina, Jacinta, Kelly, Dayna and Belinda. Have a great break and I’ll see you next year.
