RESPECT RESPONSIBILITY RESILIENCE
Have a fantabulous break Leura PS!
Enjoy the holidays and stay safe and healthy!
A huge thank you to all of our community for an excellent term.
I have loved learning about the school and watching the
students learn.
Staffing During Term 4 we have Mrs. Jodie Field on leave and she will be
returning in Week 3. During her absence K/1F will have the
lovely Mrs. Vikki Rhodes. Ms. McMahon continues to be on leave
and we continue to have the wonderful Ms. Angela Eves teaching
3/4M.
I would like to take this time to thank Mrs. Katrina Baker for
her exceptional work as a School Learning and Support Officer
at Leura PS. We will welcome back Mrs. Rebecca Pike to the
School Learning and Support Officer role during Term 4.

Hot Chocolate Year 6 Fundraiser On Wednesday 14th October, which is the first Wednesday back Term 4, our P and C will be hosting a
hot chocolate fundraiser for our Year 6 Farewell. Our P and C canteen volunteers, who
comply with the Covid safe food handling regulations, will be selling hot chocolate
drinks with the option of two marshmallows. The prices are as follows;
$1.50 – Hot Chocolate
$2.00 – Including 2 Marshmallows.
Students will need to bring the correct money in a labeled envelope because we are unable to
provide change due to Covid regulations.
Kindergarten will be served at 12:20pm
Stage 1 – 12:30pm
Stage 2 – 12:40pm
Stage 3 – 12:50pm
The staggered serve will help us comply with Covid regulations and ensure that we are minimising the
mixing of student cohorts.
I want to say a huge thank you to our volunteers in the P and C for their
incredible support and commitment to our school. Our students are super
fortunate to have a hard working, exceptionally talented and close-knit
community body. It is evident from their efforts that they are invested
into our students learning and wellbeing. We only have the best at Leura!
Well done P and C!

Intention to apply for Year 7 placement in a selective high school in 2022
Selective high schools cater for academically gifted students with high potential who
may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic standard.
Selective high schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of
similar ability, and by using specialised teaching methods.
Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the
Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The
Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 11th March 2021.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2022,
you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available in late September 2020 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7
The application website opens at the above link on 6th October 2020 and closes on 9th November
2020. You must apply before the closing date.
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public
library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Team
for assistance after 6th October 2020. You must submit only ONE application for each student.
The tear-off slip below is not an application and the school cannot apply on your behalf.

We are looking for volunteers to teach Ethics in order that we can ensure that ethics classes are available for all families who have requested them.
Ethics teachers receive full training by Primary Ethics. Training consists of a two-day workshop and short online modules. Lesson materials are provided. Suitable volunteers have an interest in children’s education and development of critical thinking skills and must be available at 2.00pm Thursday each week to teach a half hour class. A small amount of weekly preparation (such as printing and reading through lesson materials) is also required.
If you, or someone you know, wants the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school, please visit:

Our inaugural P&C Zoom meeting on 15 Sept was a great success! There were 9 P&C members who attended, and we all got to meet and have a chat with our lovely new principal, May Ptolemy. There were lots of things discussed
and May gave a fantastically detailed report on what the school has been up to. May would love to meet more of the school community, and our online P&C Meetings provide the perfect opportunity for her to meet parents and carers, so why don’t you join us at our next meeting and say hello. The next meeting will be held on Monday, 19 October – mark it in your diaries now!
Have you got a great Covid-safe Fundraising idea? We
would love to hear from you! Please contact Connor Hogan
