a Second Revolution
Political movements and Islamic parties staged protests in Tahrir square today. The protests were titled “Protecting Democracy” and were held to condone El-Silmy’s constitutional document. Political parties had rejected the proposed amendments to some of the articles in the documents.
Participating parties included those involved in the “Democratic Coalition, the April 6th movement, The Muslim Brotherhood, Salafi movements, ElNour Party, ElAsala Party, ElNahda Party, Elrayada Party and ElTayar ElMasry Party.

As thousands of Egyptians abroad attempted to access the Supreme Electoral Committee’s website, they encountered the following message, “The Website is currently unavailable due to extensive demands, Please wait or visit us again later.”
Engineer Tarek Saad, member of the data update committee of the supreme electoral committee said the interruption in service was due to traffic reaching 6,000 visitors a second, he reaffirmed that there was no concern Egyptians ability to register through the website but that they were likely to encounter slower service.

Alaa Abdel-Fatah’s Parents: Those in Power are Murderers and Executioners
Ahmed Seif El-Islam and Leila Sweif, parents of detained activist Alaa Abdel-Fatah have called on his immediate release stating that all alleged accusations against their son are untrue and accusing authority or resorting to violence.
Sweif said that the case now is not only about her son but concerns all those held in captivity by the Armed Forces. She called for no more military trials for civilians.

Islamists Demonstrate Power in Tahrir Square Hundreds of Thousands Congregate Against Al Silmy’s Document
Hundreds of thousands of protestors gathered today in Tahrir Square to content Al Silmy’s document amidst a complete absence of security. Liberal and civil movements have described the Islamist-dominated protests as a “demonstration of power.”
The protests also posed as a campaigning opportunity for the Salafi and Islamic movements, while many of the chants took an Islamic turn with protestors demanding the application of Islamic Sharia’.

Committee of Wise Men Ends Agrium Crisis,
Damietta Protestors Suspend Rallies
Hundreds of Damietta residents have suspended their protests following ten days of besieging Damietta’s port and intercepting roads leading to Mansoura and Ras Al Ber. Residents were protesting the MOPCO-Agrium’s proposed expansion.
Magdi Al Bassiouni, member of the Committee of Wise Men, said the agreement entailed that expansion is halted in MOPCO’s second and third plants. A committee of thirty individuals who reside close to the plant will be responsible for ensuring that the agreements is complied with.

for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Phase one will involve the governorates of Cairo, Alexandria, ElFayoum, Port Said, Damietta, The Red Sea, Assuit, Kafr ElSheikh and Luxor. The lists revealed the notable absence of two segments of society. The first being women and the second being Copts, whereas the AlWafd and The Freedom and Justice Parties have dominated candidate lists for phase one of the elections.

TIME Magazine: Egypt’s Elections Between Sarcasm, Confusion, and Wariness of NDP Remnants
TIME Magazine had recently published an issue on the upcoming parliamentary elections, and described the electoral process as “complicated” and “contributive to a state of uncertainty in the country.”
The article said that the complicated electoral process reinforces a state of suspicion amongst Egyptians, who remain unsure of SCAF’s intent to transition power to a civilian government.

Copts staged a rally on the 40th day anniversary of the Maspero events. Clashes took place between the Copts and anonymous individuals who intercepted the rally. The interceptors threw empty bottles and rocks at those participating in the rally, which resulted in 29 injuries.

Thirty Six Organizations Received Suspicious Funding
Prime Minister Essam Sharaf has vowed to present any and all civil organizations that have received suspicious funding from foreign or Arab sources to court, should the terms of these funding agreements violate rules set for civil organization funding.
A top judicial source revealed that the fact-finding committee will present its data by the end of next week, and stated that the organizations with the suspicious sources of funding have had their bank accounts closed and/or suspended.

Government Looks Into Borrowing From IMF
Due to deteriorating economic conditions within the country, Essam Sharaf’s government is currently looking into seeking easy funding from international monetary institutions, including IMF. Sharaf’s cabinet had previously declined funding offers from IMF in an effort to avoid excessive external debt.
Minister of Finance and Vice PM Hazem Al Biblawy had said the government was leaning towards diversifying its sources of funding, and warned against borrowing from local sources only.

MOPCO Crisis Continues
Employees of MOPCO, the Damietta fertilizer plant, have agreed to suspend their protests for one day in light of Friday’s Tahrir Square rally. Saaed Hamza, an employee of the company, revealed that they will resume protesting on Saturday and will stage their protests on the pavement of the Ministerial Cabinet’s headquarters.
Medhat Youseef, chair of MOPCO, had earlier denied that operation within the plant has been suspended. He also said rumors that MOPCO’s foreign investor had resorted to international mediation were untrue.

Ahmed Shafiq, former Egyptian Prime Minister and potential presidential candidate, criticized the current state of chaos in his first press conference since announcing his intent to run for presidency.
Shafiq said there was a large security void that can only be remedied through more support to the Ministry of Interior. In the press conference, Shafiq revealed that he had met with Nobel Laureate Ahmed Zewail and asked him to run for president, stating that Zewail did not reject the suggestion.

A number of political parties and public figures have announced their intent to participate a one million man march on November 25, titled “Al Aqsaa Will Not Go Down”. The march was called upon by the Popular Committee Against Judaizing Jerusalem.
Salah Sultan, the committee’s spokesperson, said a delegation from the committee met with a number of Islamic movement representatives (including the Muslim Brotherhood), political powers and public figures, who welcomed the initiative and confirmed their intent to participate.

Prime Minister Essam Sharaf reiterated the significance of the upcoming elections, stating that they mark the beginning of the road for democracy in Egypt. Sharaf reiterated that the Ministerial Cabinet will be exerting all possible efforts to ensure the success of the first phase of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

A security source has denied circulating news on the Internet where a member of the April 6 Movement had claimed security forces attended one of their meetings in an effort to remain knowledgeable about the movement’s policies.
The source said extensive investigation took place, the outcome of which was that none of the security departments had claimed to send a delegate to the movement’s meetings.

Mohamed Salim Al Awa, Islamic scholar and potential presidential candidate,
said that the Supreme Council of Armed Forces was operating without a system of checks. Al Awa warned against efforts to incite differences between political powers, and warned against clashes with military forces.
Al Awa called on SCAF to refrain from supporting any political movements or candidates, and described Al Silmy’s document as “illegitimate”.

USAID Supports Egypt in Resolving Nile Water Crisis
Walter North, head of the United States Agency for International Development
(USAID) said a new grant program will be initiated to assist Egypt in combating the water scarcity issue, in light of conflict with other Nile basin countries over Egypt’s water share.
North said USAID would cooperate with Egypt’s Ministry of Irrigation and allocate a huge budget to assist in improving Egypt’s water efficiency.

190 Thousand Egyptians Abroad Register to Vote in Upcoming Elections
Chancellor Abdel Moezz Ibrahim, head of Supreme Electoral Committee, said that Egyptians abroad will only be able to register for phase one of the upcoming elections until November 19, 2011.
The Committee said the total number of Egyptians abroad who had registered to vote in the upcoming elections amounted to 190,000, and that the committee was looking forward to a constitutional announcement that states that the Ministry of External Affairs will be able to monitor the electoral process.

ElBaradei called on SCAF to admit to not having adequate experience in running the country, and urged SCAF to form a national rescue government to regain security in the street and help recover Egyptian economy.

1- Egyptian cabinet What happened on Saturday is very serious and will have impact on the
country’s interests. In the past 8 days, negotiations have been conducted with 30 of martyrs’ families to end their sit-in.
The Minister of Health said the Ministry is developing a plan in all hospitals in all governorates as a preparation for the elections day, 28 November. He also urges all Egyptians to take part in the elections.
Yesterday, Saturday, is the deadline for expatriate Egyptians registration on HEC website.
Minister of Health visited Tahrir Square yesterday, Thursday, to make sure medical supplies are ready in case clashes erupted in Tahrir Square.

Ahmed Abd El-Fattah, Masry Youm photographer, was shot in the eye while covering the clashes between security forces and protestors near Tahrir square. However, the Ministry of Interior denied using cartridge shots on protestors.

Protestors in Tahrir were attacked after the Ministry of Defense has decided to use force to break up Tahrir sit-in.
Nothing justifies how the protestors were attacked .
Assistant Interior Minister said on a TV channel: These are not protestors but infiltrators who wanted to cause chaos. The ministry has tried to exhibit the highest level of self-control with them.
