Every Cabinet Officer received recognition and I had great pleasure in giving out some special awards. The Zone Chairman of the Year went to Jamie Mawer from Kulin Club and Zone 2. Jamie had done a lot of work and had all the Clubs in his zone attending each training or DGAM that he organised. I also gave International President Awards to Cab.Sec. Margaret Amm for all her hard work as cab.sec. and the Youth of the Year Co-ordinator, with the second, going to GLT (2VDG) Dot Jacobs for all her hard work in the leadership training area. Both Lions Medals were well won, even having their names on the back of the tear drop medal. GLT National Leader PDG Tim Irvine had the pleasure of presenting a Faculty Institute pin to IPDG Grant Hewett who completed the course earlier in the year.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR

BEVERLEY HAWKINS

Here we are once again and it is my final newsletter article. Thelast 12 months has gone very quickly and It has been enjoyableand interesting.

The year has finished to a certain extent this weekend when theShadow Cabinet meeting, District Awards night and my finalCabinet Meeting was held. Not all cabinet officers were able toattend any of the functions and those who made it, my sincerethanks. My official terms ends on the last day of the InternationalConvention (9 July) when DGE Frank is inducted along with allthe other District Governs Elect from around the world.

Our Awards night had 50 attending which is good consideringthat it started out at a lot lower number. My thanks to RAAFA atBullcreek, their dinner service was marvellous and the venuesuited our evening. Everyone there enjoyed their time and caughtup with friends they had not seen for a while. Every CabinetOfficer received recognition and I had great pleasure in givingout some special awards. The Zone Chairman of the Year wentto Jamie Mawer from Kulin Club and Zone 2. District Governor Medals were given to IT KayWhite, ZCC Peter Kenneday, PR Stephen Berry,CBL Lawrie Carr and Publications Bob Halford.Another surprise that I gave out at the CabinetMeeting, a J D Richardson award to our verybusy Leo Chairman John Clare from theWaroona Club. He has had an exceptional yearin helping to get 2 new Leo Clubs up and runningwith 2 more not far off. I still have somepresentations to do for those who could not makethe night and will get that done as soon as I can.

I would like to make this point now, if you haveaccepted a position on Cabinet, you need toensure that all dates advised to you are keptfree so you can fulfil your position on cabinet. This year there were some officers who did notattend cabinet meetings or put themselves outto attend special events. It may sound harsh aswe are all volunteers and that includes theexecutive of the Cabinet. Sickness, familyissues and work are all fine, but to not turn upjust because you don’t feel like it, is not on. Thatis my one big beef for the year.

On a happier note, with the Club Changeoverseason upon us, I will be busy for the last coupleof weeks. PDG Alan and I have 8 clubs to dothe installation of their new officers. At the endof that time we will have a couple of days beforeleaving on our much needed holiday.

For those who have not heard or seen the news, our Multiple District will have its first femaleCouncil Chairman for the new Lions year. DGKim Forrest and her husband PDG Ross fromQ1 District, will take up her new position at theclosing of the International Convention in Milanin early July. See photo taken in Geelong.

The last of the Incoming Officer Training hasbeen completed and it was great to see a largernumber of Lions attending. Learning how toget onto the MyLion on the international site wasa great benefit to all. To all clubs, if you haveany queries regarding the International site, please don’t hesitate to contact Kay White ourIT Lion who will help you out over the phone.

BUNNINGS PRESENTATION

District Governor Bev & PR Officer Stephen Berry (2VDGE) had the honour of making a presentationto Donna Yates from Bunnings on Thursday. The plaque presented was for all her work in arrangingfor all Bunnings stores to set aside the dates of 9 & 10 March, 2019 to allow all Clubs to holdsausage sizzles for our Lions Awareness. The date had been set back a week from the Nationalday due to the WA long weekend. The majority of our District Clubs took up this option and we canadvise that the same arrangement has been organised for next year. Thank you to all concernedand please make your bookings now for next year, the dates are 7 & 8th March 2020.

By now all Clubs should have their Constitutionscompleted and sent in.

The Children of Courage day has been and goneand went very well. Hale School was a greatvenue and very suited for the wheel chairchildren, who were all able to be on the stagethe whole time with one of their family to assistwhen necessary. There were two Olympians togive out the certificates, medallions andBunnings Bears (Kym Howe – pole vaulter andTasmin Cook – freestyle swimmer) . Thepresenters were Kate Smithers former CH.7journalist and Lion David Nelson from theKwinana Club. There were just over 40 childrento receive awards. Many thanks to the combined

committee from both Districts led by 2VDGEStephen Berry.

To all Lions in our District, a big thank you forthe presentation to myself of the ProgressiveMelvin Jones Fellowship Award. This was totallyunexpected and very much appreciated. Mostof the Cabinet officers knew, but PDG Alan hadno idea also. A great way to end my Lions yearas your District Governor.

I wish DGE Frank & Irene Camarri all the bestfor the coming Lions year and hope all goes well.

Enjoy the rest of our Lions year and enjoy yourclub and projects.

Webmaster’s Tip of the Month

Having any issues setting up yourregistration for MyLion/MyLCI? Here are afew tips:

1. You need to use your details (date ofbirth, member number, personal emailaddress – not a Lions one) to set upyour registration. Your name, DOB andmember number need to match what isin the MyLCI database.

2. Have someone check MyLCI for yourlisted date of birth (may not be accurateas these were added a while back andall given the default date of 1stJanuary).

If your club Secretary has not updatedthese, or if your birth date has beenentered incorrectly, then you need to usewhatever is listed for the purpose ofregistering. You can always amend thedetails later.

3. When going through the process, selectEmail as your login (not mobile phonenumber). This seems to be less likely tocause issues. Do NOT use a Lions emailaddress, as the one you use to register willbe the one you will use going forwardregardless of your position in the club.

4. Once your details have been entered youwill be sent a reference number via theemail you have used, so you need to haveaccess to your emails during this process.

If you have any problems, please email the IT/Webmaster Coordinator at the address below.

Australian Lionsonoz NewBoard

On one of the few occasions that the majority ofAustralian Lionsonoz members get together occurred

at South West Rocks on the Mid coast of NSW on the 24th May this year.

It was the occasion of their Annual Changeover of Officers. Lionsonoz has a current membership of

30, with 2 more members to be inducted at the next meeting. Fifteen members and their families

made the journey to South West Rocks to witness the Changeover.

The whole procedure was conducted on computers through “Skype”, the balance of the Club’s

membership joined in from all the parts of Australia where they were located.

PDG Gerard Cross of Hallidays Point in NSW conducted the Changeover which saw Lion Cheryl

Buckley hand over the reins to PDG Peter Veryard. A dinner meeting was then conducted at the

South West Rocks Country Club to celebrate the Club’s 10thBirthday.
