The ‘Small Talk Playgroup’, or-
ganised by the City of Greater
Dandenong, runs in our multi-
purpose room on Wednesday
mornings from 9.30 am- 11.30am.
The playgroup is a great oppor-
tunity for parents and their young
children to join in play activities
that benefit their child’s social and
language development. Parents
can learn how to create imagina-
tive play situations using simple
everyday objects found at home.
Learn how to make play dough
and other cheap and easy play ma-
terials that will interest and stimu-
late your children.
If you have a family member who is
of kindergarten age or younger, and
you would like to bring them along to
this playgroup, please come on a
Wednesday morning at 9.30am. We
look forward to seeing you there!

Year 5/6 Visit Parliament House
The students in Year 5 and 6 have been learning
about Australia’s Government, looking at our coun-
try’s democracy and how laws are created along
with how people are elected into Parliament. In con-
junction with this theme, the students spent an excit-
ing Monday in the city of Melbourne, visiting Victo-
ria’s State Parliament, Treasury Gardens and view-
ing the different architectural structures around Mel-
bourne.
The students entered Parliament through metal de-
tectors and they were then treated to a detailed tour
of the State Parliament, taken by knowledgeable
presenters. Stu-
dents were given
information
about the history
of the Parliament
and discussed the
different areas
that are a part of
this working
building.
Students were
allowed to sit in
the seats in both
the Upper and
Lower Houses of
Parliament –
with many of the
children com-
menting on the comfortable chairs that the Members
of Parliament get to sit in! The many different art-
works and sculptures inside the building were high-
lighted by the tour guides and the students took spe-
cial interest in the Welcome Stranger gold nugget
replica. The importance of the Gold Rush was high-
lighted through this tour as well, because all of the
gold that is displayed on the walls were funded from
the Gold Rush era.
The students were in awe of the well-stocked library
with over 70,000 texts for the Politicians to refer to
as needed. The students left Parliament House with a
greater understanding and appreciation of the State
Parliament and its Members.
After visiting Parliament, students were then treated
to a tour of the wonderful buildings that Melbourne
has to offer – looking at the historical Windsor Hotel
and some even ventured down to 360 Collins
Street to see the buildings that formed a part of
John Brack’s painting. Miss Macmichael has in-
troduced the students to this painting and dis-
cussed how it caused quite a stir as the people
that were in the image were upset at being im-
mortalised in this manner.
After the tour of Melbourne’s streets, students
walked to Treasury Gardens. This area is also of
historical significance as the cottage where Cap-
tain Cooks parents resided is also a part of this
garden. The children were quite taken with the
fairy tree and the miniature replica of a Tudor
Village - that was donated to the people of Mel-
bourne who assisted a town in England during
the Second World War.
The students were exceptionally well behaved
and they all reported having a fantastic time!
Meeting, the usual
School Council
Meeting will be

Personal Narratives
The students had to describe what they looked like. We encouraged them to use adjective in their writing piece. Also they had to hook the audience in by using an adjective to describe themself, the catch was, the adjective had to begin with the first letter of their
name. We focused on vocabulary building so we went out side to see what they were taller or shorter than and had to include it into
their story.
The students in the Year 2 area have been develop-
ing their ability to use adjectives in their writing
pieces. The focus has been on using improved de-
scriptive language to hook in the reader to want to
continue reading. The children in 2P used this idea
to create descriptive pieces about themselves. The
students had to come up with an adjective that
started with the first letter of their name. Enjoy
reading these four fantastic examples of descrip-
tive language.
