By developing their ability to communicate, missionaries become better equipped to do their work in all sorts of ways: they understand their own team better and do better at their interpersonal communication; they appreciate the role of cross-cultural communication and can better manage their interactions with people from other cultures, both on their team and in the communities in which they work; they are able to communicate more effectively with their ministry partners – those people who pray for their work and who generously donate to keep it running; they are able to recruit others to join their ministry team and help them to carry the vision towards fulfillment. BUILDING MISSIONS IN MOZAMBIQUEIn April we travelled as a family with AfriCom to Maputo. There we trained missionaries, visited community projects & recorded stories to share with others. Keziah worked as an Assistant Photographer!

When we arrived in Maputo to run a communication workshop, we didn’t realize that the YWAM team there were in the middle of raising funds to purchase the plot of land that houses their ministry and training centre. We had timed our trip for the school holidays - driving from Cape Town with the car filled with the Heathcote family and 3 other AfriCom team members – and it turned out the timing was perfect for YWAM Maputo as well as for the school calendar!

We have seen the positive impact of good communication on missionary teams. By developing their ability to communicate, missionaries become better equipped to do their work in all sorts of ways: they understand their own team better and do better at their interpersonal communication; they appreciate the role of cross-cultural

communication and can better manage their interactions with people from other cultures, both on their team and in the communities in which they work; they are able to communicate more effectively with their ministry partners – those people who pray for their work and who generously donate to keep it running; they are able to recruit others to join their ministry team and help them to carry the vision towards fulfillment.

As well as teaching, our team took photos and video footage so that we can support the team by providing resources for their fundraising initiative. We are looking forward to seeing the progress on the malaria treatment centre and the primary school that are planned once the land purchase is complete. Go here to watch a short V-blog about the trip, with some feedback from the workshop participants.

Issore, Sudan

For some time YWAM leaders in Africa have desired to see more workers mobilized into central Africa. Story-telling is a powerful way to share the needs in faraway places and to give people the opportunity to get involved, so in March one of our mission communicators travelled with a photography intern to Sudan.(Check out this video clip to see how the two girls looked after their rough trip!) After taking planes and busses, they hiked 10 hours with YWAM missionaries from northern Uganda, to meet with the remote Issore people and to record some of their stories in video and photos. Our next YWAM Africa magazine will feature an article and a photo story from this hard-to-reach part of Africa: look out for it!

House sold, just in time! Just a couple of weeks ago we accepted an offer on our house: hooray! When we leave at the end of June, the family who are buying the house will move in as renters until the sale goes through. Thanks for all your prayers – the timing could not be more perfect!
