    Thessaloniki, Dr. Prinzinger’s Translation Workshop, application deadline: 31st

    January, 2019

    Between 5th and 12th May, 2019 the 1st ViceVersa German-Greek Translation Workshop under the direction of Theo Votsos and the Austrian Michaela Prinzinger will be organized

    at Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki. The organizers are looking forward to numerous

    applications until 31st January, 2019 and are looking forward to welcome experienced

    colleagues and young talents!

    The details: The organizers invite to the 1st ViceVersa: German-Greek Translation Workshop,

    where translators from Greek and into Greek get the opportunity to work together on self-

    submitted projects and / or on the given texts, to discuss translation-related topics and to

    exchange views on their employment situation. The 5-day workshop will focus on the

    intensive discussion of the submitted translations. In the end, the results of the workshop

    will be presented in a public event during the 16th International Book Fair Thessaloniki (9th -

    12th May, 2019) by the participants themselves. A collaboration with the Department of

    German Language and Philology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (specializing in

    Translation Studies) has also been planned.

    The competition is aimed at translators of all literary genres (fiction, theater, essay, poetry)

    with EL> D and D> EL language directions. Participation is free, travel expenses will be

    reimbursed, accommodation and meals are included. For further information, please refer to

    the application texts in both languages.

    Strobl (Austria), „univie: Summer School for International and European

    Studies”, 13th July until 10th August, 2019, Application deadline: 30th April, 2019

    Every year, the University of Vienna organizes an international summer school for students and academics from all over the world

    in Strobl at Lake Wolfgang.

    The four week program offers high level European Studies courses

    and the Austrian Arbitration Academy in the morning and German

    Language courses in the afternoon. The European Studies courses

    are held in English and focus on Europe and the European Union. They cover political,

    economic, and legal, but also historical and cultural aspects of the multiple transformations

    the continent is currently undergoing. The Austrian Arbitration academy focuses on

    international dispute settlement by arbitral tribunals.

    Given the intercultural and interdisciplinary aspect of the summer school our course offers

    are of interest for students from all fields of study, but certainly of special interest for

    students who concentrate on Europe or study one of the following fields: European Studies,

    Political Science, Law (Arbitration Law, International Law, European Law, Comparative Law),

    Economics, History, Cultural Studies, International Relations, Interdisciplinary Studies, and

    German.

    The program not only offers an outstanding academic reputation and excellent

    opportunities to study German, but also excellent sports and recreational facilities, because

    of its location directly at Lake Wolfgang in the picturesque Salzkammergut region.

    Thessaloniki, Christmas Bazaar at the German School, 2nd December

    As is the case every year, the Association of Austrians in Northern Greece once

    again had an Austrian stand at the

    Christmas Bazaar. Thanks to the

    commitment of Honorary Consul Mrs.

    Evelyn Papadopoulou and the members

    of the Board as well as the company

    Bellaprint, the social projects of the

    German-speaking Evangelical Church

    were supported. The Association of

    Austrians in Northern Greece thanks all

    those who visited the bazaar!

    Athens, Courtesy visit to Deputy Minister of Digital Policy & Media Lefteris

    Kretsos, 3rd December

    On 3rd December, 2018 Ambassador Andrea Ikic-Böhm paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Minister for Digital Policy,

    Telecommunications and Media Lefteris KRETSOS. Deputy

    Minister KRETSOS emphasized, among other things, that

    Greece should become a film-friendly country, creating jobs

    and promoting tourism. Deputy Minister KRETSOS showed

    interest in successful Austrian investors in Greece -

    especially in the digital sector, such as the firm HCN in

    Thessaloniki, and expressed his appreciation of the ORF.

    Ambassador Andrea Ikic-Böhm was also pleased with the

    interest of Deputy Minister KRETSOS in the further cultural

    plans of the Embassy as well as in film projects related to

    Austria.

    Naoussa, Premiere of the documentary "So fern und so nah", 8th December

    On Saturday, 8th December, Naoussa hosted the premiere of the documentary "So fern

    und so nah" (So far, so close) by journalist

    Chrysovalantis Liolios.

    As part of his master's program at the DUK /

    Danube University Krems, Mr. Lolios

    compared the cultural similarities of the two

    cities of Naoussa and Krems an der Donau

    as wine-producing regions in cultural,

    touristic and economic terms.

    The impressive project was supported by the

    European Communications Institute in

    cooperation with the DUK, the National

    Technical University of Athens and the Botsis

    Foundation.

    Athens, 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, „Chris

    the Swiss“ event, 10th December

    Ambassador Andrea Ikic-Böhm attended the screening of the impressive and touching film "Chris the Swiss" on the

    occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration

    of Human Rights, which was organized by the Swiss Embassy

    in Athens. Today, as then, it is important to take a stand for

    the respect of human rights. Article 1 of the Universal

    Declaration of Human Rights states: “All human beings are

    born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed

    with reason and conscience and should act towards one

    another in a spirit of brotherhood." If we finally succeeded in

    implementing this article, our world today would be a

    completely different one," emphasized Foreign Minister Karin

    Kneissl on the occasion of Human Rights Day.

    Thessaloniki, Advent event of the Association of Austrians at Florian winery,

    12th December

    With great success and active participation, the Association of Austrians in Northern Greece celebrated

    Advent at Florian winery. The program included the joint

    singing of Christmas songs, poetry readings by members,

    wonderful wine and lovingly prepared delicacies as well as

    a raffle. Mr. Spiros played his accordion and was

    accompanied briefly by President Peter Hoffman.

    As part of the international initiative “outHEAR New Music Week 2018” a composition workshop with 12 selected young composers took place at the Municipal Conservatory of

    Larissa from 12th until 16th December, 2018. The participants had the opportunity to

    collaborate with the famous String Quartet of Klangforum Wien under the guidance of

    Clemens Gadenstätter, Dimitris Papageorgiou and Orestis Toufektsis from the University of

    Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) and the School of Music Studies of the Aristotle

    University of Thessaloniki.

    The public had the opportunity to enjoy the results of this collaboration at two concerts

    with Hannah Walter and Robert Torche as well as with the Klangforum Wien at the Concert

    Hall of the Municipal Conservatory of Larissa.

    The event took place under the auspices of the Austrian Embassy in Athens.

    Athens, Christmas event and the 200th anniversary of “Silent Night! Holy

    Night!”, 13th December

    On 13th December, 2018 Athens College in collaboration with the Embassy, the Association of Former Greek Students in Austria, S.E.F.A. as well as Moraitis School hosted a Christmas

    concert on "200 years Silent Night! Holy Night!". In addition to readings by students and

    works of Austrian composers, there were two school choirs (consisting of students of Athens

    College and Moraitis School, where the headquarters of the ÖSD in Greece are) that sang

    Christmas carols in Greek, German and English. At the end of the event both choirs sang

    together on stage "Silent Night! Holy night!" in German and Greek and finally in English

    together with the audience. In addition, an exhibition organized by the Austrian Embassy on

    the history of "Silent Night! Holy Night!" in English was presented.

    The concert took place in connection with the end of the Austrian Presidency of the Council

    of the European Union under the motto "An Austrian Christmas carol goes from Austria to

    Athens, Christmas event of the Association of Austrians in Greece,

    15th December

    On 15th December the Association of Austrians in Greece invited to the traditional Christmas event in the premises of the Austrian Archaeological Institute - Athens Branch.

    After a speech delivered by the Association President Elfriede Damalas and the welcoming

    words by the Austrian ambassador Mag. Andrea Ikić-Böhm Christmas carols were sung and

    children received Christmas gifts. The evening ended with a rich buffet in a pleasant mood.

    On 16th December the Head of Advantage

    Austria Athens, Gerd Dückelmann-Dublany,

    presented CYCLEFI with the National Energy

    Globe Award Greece 2018. This Austrian

    AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA. Every year more than 180 countries participate.

    The CEO and co-founder of Cyclefi, Mr. Georgos Stengos (PhD Candidate, Reverse Logistics,

    Mechanical Engineer, NTUA, M.S'c Civil Environmental Engineering, Carnegie Mellon

    University, USA) has developed an attractive, transparent recycling process, which offers

    consumers an incentive to increase their recycling rate at household level.

    The award ceremony took place at the NTUA (NATIONAL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF

    ATHENS) as part of the GreenTech Challenge by ESU-NTUA.

    Athens, EU-HoMs-Fireside Talk with Dr. Martin Czurda, 18th December

    On 18 December Ambassador Andrea Ikic-Böhm invited the EU Heads of Mission and

    those of the EFTA and South East European

    countries accredited in Athens to a "fireside

    talk" with the Austrian CEO of the Hellenic

    Financial Stability Fund/HFSF Dr. Martin

    CZURDA at the residence. After a highly

    interesting exchange of views on current

    financial topics, the discussion continued

    with a Christmas "Glühwein" reception.

    addressed the issue of the relations between

    general current questions of the participants.

    Dear friends of the Austrian Embassy in Athens,

    I hope you enjoyed the holidays and gathered new strength for the

    New Year! At the Austrian Embassy we are looking forward to an

    eventful 2019. Among other things, we will celebrate this year the 25th

    anniversary of the EU summit in Corfu, during which the signing of the

    EU Accession Treaty confirmed of the Austrian path to the European

    Union.

    In the field of culture, alongside the Austrian-Greek Music Summer,

    which has already become an institution, we will be introducing a

    feminine accent to Austrian cultural work in Greece, focusing on

    "Calliope on Tour".

    In January, we are also expecting a series of cultural events related to Austria, about which we

    report in this newsletter. I hope, you can attend one or the other event.
