School Vision:

At Chapman Valley Primary School children are nurtured, educated and challenged in a supportive and safe learning

environment. We use the best teaching and learning practices to develop balanced, capable and creative adults who value

achievement, motivation, life-long learning and pride in their school and community.

Dear Parents and Community,

Ni hao...hello in Chinese

Wow how the year has flown. I am in disbelief that I have now completed two years as Principal at Chapman Valley Primary School with these delightful students. It has been so exciting to see the students grow and progress. We have plenty more room for growth and progress and look forward to 2020.

2020

In 2020 our budget will be very tight. Our budget is determined by the number of students we have enrolled at our school. In 2020 our enrolment numbers are currently at 23. Our staffing and resourcing is all allocated out of the Student One Line budget. In 2020 our staffing at the moment is as follows:

Senior Class– Mrs Blanke 4 days, Mrs Patten 1 day

Junior Class– Mrs Griechen

DOTT release-Mrs Luxton/Mrs Hanrahan

Education Assistant-Mrs McCagh 3 days, Ms Haneveld 2 days

MCS-Deb Keeffe

Gardener– Jane Barndon

Cleaner– Dezi Webb

Library Officer-Dezi Webb

In Term two, 2020 I will be on long service. An acting Principal will come in for Term two.

We have to say our farewells to our school Chaplain today as she has taken up a new position which means she did not have time for our school in her schedule. We are interviewing a prospective Chaplain on Friday.

ONE ON ONE PARENT MEETINGS

Next Tuesday 17th December we will have one on one meetings. All parents who require an interview from their child’s report will have had an invitation by email with their allocated time. If you would like an interview please contact the school and we can certainly schedule one in for you.

NEW REGIONAL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

This year in the Midwest District we have had an acting RED, Steve Watson. He has been amazingly supportive of us in our small school. He has now returned to Perth to take up a position with Statewide Services. In 2020 our new acting RED will be Lisa Criddle. Lisa has recently acted in the RED position in the Wheatbelt, and is currently acting as the RED in the Goldfields Education Region. As the substantive Principal of Allendale Primary School, Lisa will bring to the role a great understanding of the regional context and community. TRADE OFF

Department of Education terms of employment for school staff provide the opportunity for staff to attend professional learning outside of their normal work hours and can then trade-off those hours on December 20, 2019. Staff at Chapman Valley PS have attended many professional learning opportunities outside of work hours and have traded-off those hours. The school office will be open until lunch time on Friday 20 December, 2019 if you need to contact us.

Thank you for your understanding.

Midwest Recognition Awards

TRASH AND TREASURE

Our “Trash and Treasure” event will be held on Friday the 13th of December at 2.00pm

Do you have some Trash or Treasure items you would like to donate to the school to sell at our Trash and Treasure event.

Please send in to the School office.

All items gratefully received.

All welcome to attend.

In the past years the Midwest Network has held Education Recognition of Excellence Awards and the recipient

and staff and school community attend a dinner to recognise the recipient. This year the Midwest Network has

made a decision to share our educational excellence with the broader community via the Midwest Times

newspaper. The recipient for Chapman Valley in 2019 was Mrs Kristy Blanke. You will be able to see the article

with Mrs Blanke in The Midwest Times in the near future.

Kristy is a dedicated teacher who teachers in our senior class which

encompasses years three to six. Kristy provides programmes to

cater for differing year levels and abilities in the one class. Kristy

contributes to all aspects of life in a small school. Kristy has been

instrumental getting staff engaged and in implementing the PBS

framework and has taken on the role of Internal Coach with our

staff for the first year of PBS in 2019. Kristy works collaboratively

with our team and with teachers from other small schools. Kristy is

to be congratulated on the professional attitude she displays as a

role model in our school.

ATTENDANCE

One of our targets in our Business Plan in our priority of “A Positive Learning Environment’ is to maintain or

improve the school attendance rate so that 90% or more of our students attend school for at least 90% of the

time. For weeks 7-9 of Term Four our whole school attendance is 93%. 20 students have 90% or better than

attendance. You will now get an automated text message if your child is absent and we have not had notification

of them being absent from school. However if your child is unwell and is not at school please notify the office of

any absences. The students do get an extra raindrop for Kindness when they attend 5 days of school in the week.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT

Our art teacher, Mrs Hanrahan who is an artist in

her other life has been doing up some different art

works for our PBS poster. This will be displayed

around our school to guide our instruction of

Behaviour expectations and to remind students

what the expectations are. It is on display at the

front of the school and we would love feedback on

the poster. If you have any feedback please email it

or come and write it on the whiteboard where the

poster is displayed. We would love you to come

and have a discussion with us about the elements

of the poster. The animals have specific meaning

and you can ask the Junior students to explain

more.

SCHOOL NEWS

REPORT ALL SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY AROUND THE SCHOOL

If you happen to see anything that looks suspicious around our school,

please contact the Northampton Police Station on 99347600 or

Jo Luxton on 0429 977 603.

Please ensure you take note of vehicle number plates and

other details should we need to assist police with their enquiries.

Mobile devices School Policy

Just a reminder that as part of a School

Behaviour Management Plan we do not permit

students to bring mobile devices to school.

Mobile devices can be an

educational distraction at

school in students bags outside

the classroom and we would

not like them to get broken or

damaged in transit or at school

in the bag. If you would like to

discuss further please come and chat about this.

UPSIDE DOWN CHRISTMAS TREE

As a Chapman Valley Primary annual tradition, each child is asked to please bring to school a present

valued to approximately $5.00, suitable for an older lady or a gentleman: for example biscuits, powder,

chocolates.

These will be blessed and then presented to the Nazareth House residents on the Students’ End of Year

Excursion on Thursday 13th December. Community members are also welcome to drop off presents. If

the gift is for a special Nazareth House resident, please label with their name.

It would be fantastic if the presents could be sent into the office ASAP and labelled either ‘male’ or

‘female’ or ‘either’ if it is a gender neutral gift. This is a wonderful school tradition that teaches our

students the joy of giving and making someone's day special.

Chapman Valley Primary School

On behalf of the staff and students of

Chapman Valley Primary School, I would

like to invite you and your family to

attend our 2019 Presentation Night,

in the Community Centre, Nabawa

on Monday 16th December.

The evening’s programme will commence

at 6.00pm and concluded with supper at

approximately 8.00pm.

I hope that you will be able to join us on

this occasion.

Term four has gone past in a whirl of Art activity! When we looked at Sally Morgan and her style of Indigenous Art a few

weeks ago, some students expressed a greater interest that prompted us to draw impromptu maps of Australia and add

line detail. Since then we have listened to and drawn a couple of tracks from classical music The Flight of the Bumble Bee

and Mrs Kookaburra. This art proved really helpful in encouraging students to listen and consider the stories being told,

and warm up their ‘Art thinking’. This week we have listened to the story of The Nutcracker. Students participated in a

instructed drawing activity and will complete their Nutcrackers next week”
