Once again, we thank the community for the overwhelming feedback we have received. As a staff, we have had a review (PMI) of the performance and will work out a suitable 9meframe for the next one. Spring is here, the buds are out and the sun is shining, which makes for a posi9ve outlook heading into the last week of term.!!We do love parents involvement in school, so please let us know if you have any ideas that can make our school even be&er. 21st – 24th September 2015
Family motivation in reading activities have a strong, positive impact on a child’s educational achievement. The Scholastic Book Fair is our school’s pop-up bookshop event
that will enable a hands on experience where children can discover a love of books and ignite a life long passion for reading.
Book Fair Open Hours – at the Broadfield Hall Monday 8:30 - 9:30am 2:30pm - 3:30pm Tuesday 8:30 - 9:30am 2:30pm - 3:30pm Wednesday 8:30 - 9:30am 2:30pm - 3:30pm Thursday 8:30 - 9:30am 2:30pm - 3:30pm Your child will visit the book fair on Monday morning and bring home a ‘wishlist’ of books that they like the look of. This book fair is an opportunity for you to purchase books for your own children, as well as an opportunity to buy a book to donate to the school library. We will have a list of books you can purchase for the library if you wish. You can pay by cash, cheque or credit card (you just need to fill in all the details on a form).
A percentage of all book sales go towards more books for our school library.
Book Character Day Wednesday the 23rd September will see Broadfield School full of children dressed up as characters from books. Please get your costumes ready now so you look amazing on the day! No donation is required for this as it is part of our book week. We will have a parade of the classes at 9:10am (after the roll). Book Quiz As part of our book week the senior librarians have created a quiz. This is a fun event that involves all the children. It will be held on Wednesday after lunch. Visitors We have organised for some librarians from the Selwyn Library to come and talk to the children. This will happen on Wednesday as well! Year 1-4 children are at 10:15am and the Year 5-8 children are at 11:30am.
See you there, Miss Watson

PETS’ DAY 2015 !
Dear Parents and Caregivers !Please read and discuss this informa9on thoroughly with your children so that everyone is prepared for the Pets’ Day ac9vi9es on Thursday 29 October. !Parents should encourage their child to bring a pet on the day. We ask that children bring no more than two pets. (e.g. lamb and a budgie). Pets are not to be borrowed. !If bringing a pet is an issue, or children do not own a pet, then they will enter the crea9ve crae 3D
pet ac9vity. Work on this at home, using paint, coloured pencils, felts, etc. to create a 3D pet from recycled materials. Take the craework to Harakeke. Children bringing a pet do not enter this ac:vity. !Children with pets should be prepared to talk about them to the judges -‐ name, breed, age, food, habits, tricks etc. Please bring a container for both food and water. Have a ‘pooper scooper’ on hand to deal with any messes. Young children with animals need to be confident in handling them properly otherwise they should be supported by an adult. !Where to take entries on arrival on pets day: Compe::on: Lambs/Calves/Goats etc -‐ tethered on grass area in front of Nga Kahu. Horses, Donkeys -‐ Along the pine hedge beside Shands Road. Dogs -‐ Tethered along the far side of the field by the bike track, with a water bowl. Cats, Fish -‐ in TAP. If cats are nervous about being cooped up all morning, or are upset by lots of people, please consider the cat’s welfare and leave it at home. Other Small Animals – birds, hens, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc – in the shelter shed or Waikirikiri if the weather is cold. !
