Class 2/3
We are the students of 2/3. We have built a class culture of friendship and positivity. We encourage each other and say nice
things. We work together to improve our learning and strengthen our skills.
We have been building our Math and English knowledge. We have been learning about communities, rules and voting. We
have explored the history of schools in Australia and Alice Springs.
We enjoy working together, learning together and having fun! Our assembly is on Monday 25th March. We would love to see
you there.

Please pass the word around the community that a Principal Tour of
Araluen Christian College will be happening. Please go on to the
College Facebook Page and share the ad.
Today all parents and carers will have all received progress reports for
the Term through Compass. These reports are a great starting point
for us as parents and carers to have conversations with our child/
children about how their achievements at school so far this year and
to celebrate these achievements, as well as have conversation about
what goals our child/ren would like to make to improve their
education over the coming term.
Wednesday 27th of March is the College’s Parent Teacher Interview
night. I would encourage all to make an appointment to come along
with their child/ren and talk to their teachers. It is a great chance to
come and ask questions as well as share insight and information about
your child/ren that will help teachers understand and better cater for
your child/ren as an individual.
Parent teacher interviews are one way we as a College live out the
Vision Statement of the College of ‘’Partnering with families guiding
each child’s journey of living and learning, providing hope, in Christ for
their future.’
The bible lets us know that by working together we get a better result
than by working alone. Ecclesiastes 4 vs 1 ‘Two are better than one,
because they have a good reward for their toil.’ Let’s use the parent
teacher interviews as a time to work together to improve the
education of our students.
I would encourage you all to make the most of this opportunity.

What’s Happening Around The College
School Fees
If you have received an SMS this week
regarding late payment of school fees, we
would appreciate, so no further action needs
to be taken if you could pay your fees or
advise [email protected] if you will
be paying in installments. Term fees are due
14 days from when they are sent out. If you
are paying by installments all fees need to be
paid by 30 November 2019. Your child’s en-
rolment is dependent on fees being paid.

please arrange to speak to the Principal

At the start of term 2 we will have a new Winter jacket and long pants, it’s the same
design but a different material. From this week we will be selling the old style jacket
and pants plus the old style shirts (thicker material style) for half price until sold out.
Stock is limited so pop into the Uniform Shop and grab a bargain. Jackets $25, track
pants $16 and shirts $15. Don’t forget the bucket hats are also available now, these are
reversible with the house colour inside for school sports events. Back to School vouch-
ers are in the uniform shop and are only available to the end of term 1. Any vouchers
not allocated and signed for by the end of term 1 will be applied to tuition.

Please make sure your child’s name is on
their uniform items, this makes it so much
easier to find the owner when something
comes to the Lost Property box. Anything in
the box at the end of each term will be
donated.
On the 28th of March, the Year 3/5/7 and 9 students will do a mock test for NAPLAN to prepare them for NAPLAN testing next term.
This event will provide an opportunity for staff and students to familiarise themselves with the online platform and process.
Students will be encouraged to become confident and familiar with the process.
Staff will be encouraged to be more confident with the technology that will be used for NAPLAN Online and to have the opportunity to practise logistics associ-ated with online assessments and the ICT infrastructure staff will have an op-portunity to check that the ICT infrastructure of the school meets the minimum requirements to undertake NAPLAN Online.
$150 Back to School Vouchers
Don’t forget to use your voucher before
the end of term 1. These can be used
towards uniforms, camps/excursions or
tuition. They are available from the
Uniform Shop.
Any unused vouchers will be applied to
tuition at the end of the term.
We would really appreciate the help of our parent
community, as we attempt to have as few interruptions
occur during class time to help students and teachers
concentrate on their teaching and learning.
Parents and carers can help us by emailing teachers
and CC admin in ahead of time if their child or children
have an appointment during the school day. Teachers
will then organise to have the students sent to the
office rather than the office staff having to call and
disturb the class.
We know that there will be times that this is not possi-
ble however we would love to have your support with
this, where it is possible.
Last week, ACC celebrated “Bullying, no way!” Day on Friday the 15th of March. Leading up to this important day, we were running programs for the MS students to raise awareness of the effects of bullying and to empower them to make better choices and decisions. Araluen Christian College approached Headspace and invited them to be part of this very important event. Melanie Gunner from Headspace ran workshops all week, addressing: mental health, anxiety, depression, understanding bullying and re-orientation towards safety, stress and body image and eating disorders. A TV crew from SBS was at the college to film the workshop on
mental health, self-harm and suicide on Thursday. Araluen Christian
College is proud to be part of the SBS Insight Program to raise
awareness about Youth Suicide.
SRC Fundraiser –

The SRC is running its first fundraiser of the year! Bring along some money and buy delicious baked goods and icy poles! Items will cost $1 or $2.
All money raised will be going to support the endangered rhino.
So please send some money with your children that day so they can enjoy something yummy to eat and to support a great cause!

MS relief teacher

After spending a bit of time in the Navy, I have studied science as well as Christian theology, which helped me to make a decision to become a teacher. One of my hobbies is running, I enjoy running long distances and completed a marathon last year. I spend most of my time with my wife, Estera, hiking and spend-ing time adventuring outdoors. I play a bit of guitar. I also passionately support the Port Adelaide Football Club as that’s where I’m originally from. I also enjoy fishing, but there’s not much of that up here.

I was born in north Queensland, and make home just outside Brisbane, where my family still lives at the moment. My wife, Amy operates her own small business, and Mary is in her final year of Pharmacy at QUT. My son,
Adam lives in the Wide Bay region and is a cabinet maker.
Recently, Amy and I celebrated our wedding anniversary; she hails from Qingdao, Shandong province, China. We met in my first International school, and I have 11 years of teaching practice in cities like Beijing, Yantai, and Shanghai.
This is my first time to Alice Springs, and my first impression was that "The Alice" was an "Oasis in the desert". I am looking forward to this year, and am impressed with the school and local communities.
