Dear parents and carers,

Today is the first day of December! We have 2 weeks of school left this year, summer is upon us and Christmas is just around the corner. I’m not sure whether I am excited, nervous or a little overwhelmed. There is a lot that needs to happen between now and the holidays. We will be sprinting to make the finish line, but we will get there!

One of the biggest ticket items that we have been working on is our 2021-2024 School Improvement Plan. We have been evaluating our current programs and initiatives, student achievement, teaching expertise, and feedback from our staff, students and community to write a situational analysis. We are hoping to have this signed off by our Director by the end of the term. This process helps us to make decisions about our next steps. We have our new School Vision statement.

Toronto Public School has a culture of high expectations where all

students are valued. We work together providing rich opportunities to

maximise student growth.

This statement replaces ‘We believe every child can be successful’.

We have shared our key values as belonging, working together,

opportunities and growth and now have the belief statements that are underpin our vision:

Every child feels welcome, safe and nurtured

Every child is engaged through quality teaching and

meaningful learning

Every child is encouraged, challenged and supported to

continually improve

All teaching is evidenced based, reflective and responsive

Parents, carers and community are valued as partners in

education

Teamwork underpins all of our endeavours

In 2021 and beyond we will be working hard to make our belief statements our reality. Our School Plan will map out the initiatives we will put in place to make this happen. I look forward to the opportunity to engage you in our planning process.

Our staffing for 2021 is not finalised. We are getting closer. Last week Megan Evans was appointed to our Assistant Principal position that will be vacated when Nerolie Goss retires at the end of the year. Megan has been working with us in the Instructional Leader role for the last three years. It is very exciting that TPS will now be her permanent teaching position. This Friday we will finalise the successful applicant for a permanent classroom teaching role. This also a wonderful opportunity for us to shape our school to meet the needs of our children. We are also waiting for a teacher to be appointed by staffing. When we have these positions finalised we will begin to move the pieces around on the chess board to work out teachers and grades.

We are once again looking to fund an additional class to keep our class sizes down. When planning classes it is very helpful to know if children are leaving or if new families are coming in, if you have information to share in this regard. I would really appreciate hearing it!

Enjoy your week,

Kind regards

Kim Witt

K/1S have really enjoyed their Art lessons with Miss Leah this year.

Student comments about art with Miss Leah: • Sierra: Art was always interesting with Miss Leah. We got to see many

beautiful artworks and discover new ways of making art.

• Indi: My favourite artwork with Miss Leah was making our reindeer art

because I love Christmas.

• Saphira: I like art with Miss Leah because she lets us pick whatever colours

we want. I loved making butterflies because we got to squeeze the water

colours.

• Zavia: I love art because the more you do it the better you get.

• Henry: I love using the oil pastels in art. Every time I used them it

gets easier.

Here are some reindeers they produced recently and their drawings of elves. They really are starting to get into the

Christmas spirit!

3/4E has been enjoying playing touch football for sport. We have been fortunate to have an expert external provider come to the school and run the program. By engaging in the activities, the students are learning the rules and concepts of touch football, ball skills, agility, social skills and sportsmanship. The exposure to touch football also shows them how staying fit and healthy can be achieved whilst having fun.

Ella Lockyer - Touch football has been so fun and I can't wait to play it out of

school.

Will Scott - Touch

football has been

outstanding. It has

improved my skills

and then I use those

skills when I play

after school.

Kaeleyah - Touch is great.

It makes me feel happy

when I hold the ball and get

a try.
