Important information about assessmentand end of year reports

The education system in England is going through rapid and fundamental change. Someof these changes include a new curriculum and freedoms for individual schools todesign their own assessment systems. Expectations for what children at certain agesshould know and be able to do have also increased significantly.

In order to explain these changes in more detail, and in particular Broad Oak’sapproach to assessing without levels and how we will report this information to you,we will be running a series of parental presentations after half term onTuesday 14th June.

The presentations will last approximately 45 minutes and begin at 9.00am, 2.30pm and6.00pm. If you would like to attend, please register at the school office.

SCHOOL RE-BRAND Earlier this year I wrote to families to explainthat we were looking to design a new logo forour school. The image can be viewed as a tree or the twohalves of a brain with the wording ‘ExcitingMinds’ reflecting our aim to bring learningalive for our pupils through our creativecurriculum. As part of this work groups of staff andchildren have been working on our newuniform. The children have voted and oursweatshirts will be changing from Septemberbut the rest of the uniform will remain thesame. There will be an opportunity for parents to view the new designs and discuss withmembers of the senior leadership team as part of our Assessment parents’ event onTuesday 14th June at 9am, 2:30pm or 6pm.

AFRICANDRUMMINGAfrican drumming assembly -Thursday 23rd June 2.30 - 3.15pm.All parents of African drummingchildren welcome.

YEAR 3'S VIKING MORNINGYear 3 enjoyed their Viking morning. They made bread and cooked it over a fire, made necklaces to trade with and took partin a Viking treasure hunt. All of Year 3 (including the teachers) had a fun-filled morning!

ENCHANTED WOODLANDYear 1 have enjoyed their first Forest Crew experience withMrs McCrory this week. The children had an amazing time exploringthe Enchanted Woodland, helping the fairies, elves, sprites andgnomes. The bushies and spikies (foxes and hedgehogs) had sadlydestroyed their homes, but the children were delighted to offer ahelping hand and begin building new homes, complete with specialfairy doors, wishing stones, fairy dust and a magic chant.
