SUMMER SHOW CONT..NCASHA president Dean

MacCracken worked hard to rally the club and make the show a hit for the 3rd year in a row. Monarch Stables hosted the Friday night BBQ and Susan Foss-Pheley kept the crowd going with a very successful raffle. Lynn Silva hosted the Saturday night Pie party. Rhonda Azevedo and Beth Davis kept the office running smoothly, while Earl Kelly did his usual great job in the announcer’s booth.

The kids had a great weekend with plenty of fun classes in the show and an art contest too. Adults had their choice of items at the silent auction. Show highlights included an array of Saddlebred classes, open classes, a strong academy division, an array of gaited horses of multiple breeds and the ever popular and competitive Sit A Buck class. There was good support from the participating stables: Monarch Stables, Golden Ridge Stables, Michael Craghead Stables, Maggi Stables, Silver Creek Stables, Saddle Star Stables, Dixon Stables and The Back Bay Co-op, plus an array of local horses. The club came together to support the show financially as well as providing a work force. Stephanie Davidson sponsored the ribbons and trophies which were a big hit. Linda Scholl took charge of the awards for the kids – there were a lot of smiles. The

club wants to thank all who helped make the show a success – we will be back next year!

Saddlebred highlights: 5-Gaited: Candy Dowdy on

Sparkalicious and Dana Leavitt on Callaway’s Southern Cross entertained the crowd with examples of a Pleasure and Open horse.

Park: The well matched team of Julie Barrow and Ninja Warrior took home the Park Championship while Julie Streitfeld and Call Me Mahvalous made their blue ribbon debut in the Limit class

Show Pleasure: All Smiles, Stephanie Davidson and Tuffy’s Gunslinger sported the Tri color on Saturday, while stable mate Elle Fire and Mark Lambert took the blue in the qualifier. Lynn Silva and Look Closely were reserve in both classes. President Dean MacCracken and his lovely Charmalot made a good show, as did Paige Raven fresh out of Academy on Lullaby Baby Blues .

Country Pleasure: Sue Valley and Too Attached made their solo performance look fun in the 3-Gaited division, Alfreda Sebasto and Can’t Talk Now had their hard work pay off with a tri-color in the Western division. Thea Sherwood and Edy Compton’s Santa Fe Spirit took reserve and

the blue in the qualifier - not bad for Thea’s first show!

Driving: Susan Foss-Pheley made her driving debut with CH Shamrock’s Jessica. Sporting wonderful hats, Sue happily drove into the winner’s circle twice!

The Academy division was strong. In the over 13 Walk and Trot - Margaret Olney took home the blues. The 12 and under division had Sami Streitfeld and Elizabeth Eritzian and Hailey Riley trading blues. Hannah Riley had several good rides and took home the overall Sportsmanship Award. Rylee Abbott took home several blue ribbons in the 10 and under classes. Paige Raven and Nancy Bernard traded places in the Walk,Trot Canter division.

Open Classes: Su Casa and Joanna Stefanski racked their way to a blue in the Walk and Favorite gait class. Citron and Lynnda Martin made a lovely show in the Saddle Seat pleasure class to take the blue. Allison Freeman on Todaysmyluckyday were on top in the Novice Rider Western Pleasure.

The Costume class featured some amazing outfits (see photos). The Sit a Buck had 12 entries and they were put through their paces. Nancy Bernard had an amazing ride for reserve ahead of her trainer Teddi Estes in third. See our Facebook page for more photos!

Monarch Stableswww.monarchstables.comShow season is in full swing and Santa Barbara was a great time for all. Julie Barrow was thrilled with her Ninja Warrior to win the Three-gaited Show Pleasure Junior/Limit horse class and come out in the top 3 in the Championship! Lynn Silva and her darling, Look Closely, were the winners of the Country Pleasure class! Kandi Kuck debuted with her new mare, Callaway's Build Me Up Buttercup to a good go in the Park Junior/Limit class. These two are a team and are well underway on their journey to success. Dana and his new horse, Callaway's Southern Cross, were fantastic to win both the Five-gaited Country Pleasure classes and Dana put on a horse show even though these were his first gaited classes. Dana's youngster, Cococabana won both the Park Pleasure and the Championship. Cathy Sauer and her buckskin mare, Doubletakecoffeecake, were pretty and consistent for Reserve in the Country Pleasure. Beth Davis and Irish In Lights made good shows in the Show Pleasure Driving division.

We are very proud of our junior riders, Sami Streitfeld and Paige Raven. Sami just recently took over the reins of CH Shamrock's Jessica and made her debut at Santa Barbara. Jessica was definitely at the command, but just two weeks later, at Watsonville, Sami got Jessica's number. They turned the corner and won the Academy Walk and Trot Equitation and Championship. The sky is the limit for them from here on out. Paige took the pretty black mare, Lullaby Baby Blues back to the show ring. This mare had not been to a show since Monterey 2011, so she was quite exuberant to be back in the ring. Paige did an amazing job piloting 'Salem' and equitating at the same time. She did so well on Saturday at Watsonville, that she made her Performance debut on Sunday to great ribbons and said goodbye to the Academy division in addition to celebrating her 13th birthday!

There were quite a few new faces in the ring at the Summer Classic. Julie Streitfeld did a great job showing the handsome gelding, Call Me Mahvalous in the Park division. Marv is making his transition from Harness to under saddle and really seemed to enjoy the show ring without blinkers! Suzan Pheley made her driving debut with beautiful Shamrock's Jessica to win both the Country Pleasure driving classes. Margaret Olney represented the Adult Academy riders will to win both her classes with the beloved, Barbie. Barbie also carried darling Ryder Nelson, grandson of Allen and Shelley Nelson, to his first time in the ring in Leadline! A third generation horseman! Candy Dowdy got out there and showed the audience the thrill of a gaited horse. She and Sparkalicious put on a racking show!

A huge congratulations to Shane and Andrea Smith! These newlyweds are expecting their first little one!

We would like to welcome to the barn, the exquisite 3 year old mare, Lady of Honor. Owned and bred by A. E. Nelson, All Roses Farm. This beautiful and talented young mare is the full sister to Cococabana. A warm welcome to Diane Kleinecke's new mount, the handsome Morgan gelding Cedar Creek's Eragon. We are looking forward to their show ring debut. Congratulations are in order to Mindy Lopus on the sale of her talented Three-gaited gelding, Shooting Star of Silver Oaks.

Now with a few weeks between shows, everyone is anxiously awaiting the Northwest Fall Classic and the California Futurity @ Las Vegas!

After kicking off the show season at Carousel Charity in Arizona GRS returned home and made preparations for one of their all time favorite shows Monterey Springfest. Not only do the horses and riders need to prepare but the potluck lunch which is held in between Saturday’s sessions needs to be organized. Everyone pitches in to make this a fun and filling event which is enjoyed by all. There were even a few old friends and clients who surprised us. The Ragsdale family returned for the day along with John’s famous fruit salad. Deborah Finney and Joe Conley as well as Jenny Blackburn came to support the event.

As the sun shined in Monterey so did the kids. Making his debut in the Academy Walk/Trot Pleasure division was Jack Bartoszek riding Jesse Ventura. Jack did a great job piloting Jesse around the arena and earned himself two reserve ribbons.

The Riley twins both did a super great job in their Academy classes. Haley competed in the Walk/Trot Pleasure classes aboard Talent Search. Tally and

Haley headed to the winner’s circle in both classes. Hannah performed in the Walk/Trot Equitation classes taking home the blue ribbon in both the qualifier and the stake. Hannah rode Jesse Ventura in both classes.

Callaway’s Bet Your Boots and Gianna Cassarino showed in several classes and was Reserve Champion in the Walk/Trot/Canter Pleasure class as well as the WTC Equitation class. All you have to do is look at Gianna’s smile to know how much she enjoys showing.

Cooper Bartoszek who is well known for riding his handsome gelding The Harlem Kid crossed into the Saddle Seat Equitation division riding Callaway’s Bet Your Boots. The winner of the 2011 Sportsmanship Award added two more reserves to the GRS banner.

The Lambert family multi tasked to get Marc to the Monterey show this year. And they were happy they could make it work. Marc is getting better and better with Elle Fire and it shows. Marc and Alfie went home as the Champion and Grand Champion of the Junior Exhibitor Three Gaited Show Pleasure division.

Stephanie Davidson went above and beyond this year in her support of the Monterey show.

Not only did she support the show she supported the trainers by adding money to the Trainer’s Jackpot Drawing. Michael Craghead was the lucky winner and very appreciative of Stephanie’s donation. Stephanie competed in the Show Pleasure division with Tuffy’s Gunslinger and Teddi showed Polynesian Rose in the Park Pleasure classes taking home the Reserve Grand Champion ribbon.

After returning from Monterey GRS made the decision to move to a bigger and more private facility. Terry Konkle’s barn was available and seemed to be the best choice. Everyone has settled into their new digs and is happy with the new location.

Teddi headed to KY and VA in May to do some horse shopping for Stephanie and returned home with a five year old gelding by Nutcracker and out of Beat The Odds. Scooby will be shown by Stephanie in the pleasure division.

UPHA Chapter Two show held in Eugene, OR was the next stop for GRS. Several of Stephanie’s horses made the trip as well as the Lambert’s horse Elle Fire. Stephanie showed Tuffy’s Gunslinger in the Show Pleasure classes and Teddi showed Polynesian Rose in the Park Pleasure classes winning the stake.

Marc Lambert showed Alfie in the Junior Exhibitor Show Pleasure winning the Stake class and taking reserve in the qualifier. Teddi also showed one of Stephanie’s Morgan horses. Intrepid Prosperity took first in Morgan Western Pleasure qualifier and stake as well as the Junior/Limit class. Bel Air Rose competed in the Open Saddlebred Hunter Pleasure classes and took second place in both events.

Due to Holiday plans for many clients over the July 4th week GRS was unable to attend the Santa Barbara horse show. Summer Showcase fell the following week and so GRS decided to head north once more. Marc was unable to go but thought his horse should so Teddi showed Elle Fire in the Open English Pleasure classes adding two more blues to Alfie’s resume. Teddi also competed with Stephanie’s new mount Rogue Wave in the Junior/Novice Pleasure Classes and was a good reserve in both. She was very happy with Scooby in his first show with GRS. Polynesian

Rose, also shown by Teddi, came home with 2 reserves in a very competitive Park Pleasure division. Stephanie showed Tuffy’s Gunslinger in the show pleasure division and Teddi showed Steph’s Morgan Intrepid Prosperity in the Open Western Pleasure. Gianna Cassarino had a grand time showing Talent Search in the Amateur Three Gaited classes. One thing is for certain, Stephanie and Gianna have the absolute best smiles out there.

And last but not least the NCASHA Summer Classic Horse Show. Close to home and always a fun show. Nancy Bernhard competed in the Academy Division riding Bel Air Rose. This is Elle’s second show cantering and Nancy’s 2nd year showing. Nancy won the Academy 13 and over WTC Championship class. Probably one of the best classes of the show is the Sit a Buck class and Nancy really wanted to participate so that’s exactly what she did. In a large field of horses Nancy took the second place ribbon. We hear there is a big birthday in store for Nancy this year and wish her a very happy birthday. Never mind the number; Nancy will always remain young at heart.

Not only does Haley Riley ride horses she also has artistic abilities. Haley won her 12 and

Under Walk and Trot Championship class riding the lovely mare Talent Search. Then she goes on to win the Art Contest with a beautiful drawing of Tally.

If a lesson horse never challenges you then you don’t have the opportunity to learn and improve your skills. Tammy Michelle, aka GiGI, makes you work for it. Hannah Riley met those challenges and has come a long way in just a year. Hannah went home with the Sportsmanship Award and had great rides on GiGi.Stephanie Davidson showed in the Open Walk and Trot Championship and the Open Three Gaited Show Pleasure Championship. Congratulations to Steph for winning two Championship classes. Tuffy and Stephanie have come along way in a short period of time. Stephanie is excited about her new guy Rogue Wave and is looking forward to showing him in the Show Pleasure division in Las Vegas. Scooby is one cool dude.

GOLDEN RIDGE CONT.

Marc Lambert and Elle Fire have been on fire all year. Marc won the qualifier the Open Three Gaited Show Pleasure class and he was the only kid in the class. Way to go Marc!

The Bartoszek’s sure don’t let grass grow under their feet. Cooper has been so busy with swimming that he’s had little time for anything else. But you can’t keep Jeanie away from the barn. Jeanie and Teddi took Harlem and Elle out for a great trail ride the week after the fun show. Jeanie had a fabulous time riding Harlem and Harlem enjoyed it as well.

Next stop for some of GRS gang will be Louisville, KY to watch the World’s Championship Horse

JL DIXON STABLEJL Dixon Stable has had a busy summer so far! There have been several exciting updates happening at the barn as well as fun and successful shows. There is a new team in the barn: Alison Freeman and “Todayʼs My Lucky Day”, aka Andy, have proven that they can jog with the best of them in the Western Pleasure division. The beautiful pair made their debut at Santa Barbara National winning the Shatner class! Gen Hess has been gracious enough to hand the reins over to Alison for the season.

Dixon Stable was excited to have Tish and Jeremy Fappani over for some riding and driving. Tish and Jeremy are the wife and son of renown reining trainer Andrea Fappani who were in town for “Reining by the Bay” and wanted to experience what the American Saddlebred is all about. It was evident that Tish had shown Saddle Seat Arabs when she was younger; she got on Hobby and hit a show trot with perfect form! Jeremy made fast friends with Pip. They had quite the connection as soon as they laid eyes on each other. Five and a half year old Jeremy took a seat in the buggy next to Jennifer and was trotting the champion pony around the ring on his own in no time! Jeremy also proved that riding

is in his genes when he got on Chatterbox and was posting in no time!

Jennifer, appreciative of any equestrian athletes, has been interested in the reiners for several years and Gen Hess has shown them before turning her attention more towards Saddlebreds. Both had the experience of a lifetime at “Reining by the Bay!” Alden Corrigan of Equestrian Life put together a lesson for the two ladies as well as Peter Breakwell with acclaimed reining trainer Casey Deary. They spent two hours perfecting their spins, run downs, and roll backs!

We would like to welcome Betty and Katrina Smith back to JL Dixon Stable. They recently moved Kat Scratch Fever of Silver Oaks, aka Kat, to start training. Kat is a handsome, bay 6 year old that the Smithʼs bought as their new pleasure horse.

All exhibitors had fabulous performances at Charity Fair Horse Show in Del Mar and the Santa Barbara National Horse Show. Helen Roy reclaimed Tommy for a show at Del Mar and had two powerful performances that earned her high ribbons in the competitive Adult Show Pleasure division. Gen Hess and Stevie turned heads once again claiming the blue in the Novice Show Pleasure class

and the yellow ribbon in the Adult Show Pleasure Championship. Anna Roy and Pip once again commanded the show ring for a win in the Hackney Pleasure Pony Driving qualifier. They returned for the reserve grand champion honors in the championship later in the week. Ethan Feiber and Blondie dominated the Junior Exhibitor Show Pleasure classes winning both the qualifier and the championship in their always-elegant style. Ethan also racked River Card to a second place finish in the Junior Exhibitor Five-Gaited class and returned better than ever in the Championship.

A strong group of six horses went down to Santa Barbara including the new team of Alison and Andy. They had people talking after their win in the Shatner and two strong rides in the Western Country Pleasure qualifier and championship. Sue Valley showed Too Attached, aka Spud, to a third place finish in the Adult Country Pleasure qualifier. The team later claimed the tricolor and trophy in the championship. Sue also showed River Card to two strong second place finishes in the Adult Show Pleasure Five-Gaited division. The Roy girls, Julia and Anna, both had beautiful performances. Julia guided Tommy to a reserve finish in the Junior Exhibitor

DIXON STABLE CONTINUED

finish in the Junior Exhibitor Show Pleasure Championship after Caroline Cherry had similar results in the qualifier. Anna and Pip continued their winning ways, claiming the blue in the qualifier and having a strong drive in the championship. Jennifer showed Lexie Castaillacʼs grand park mare Reedanʼs Designed to Dance. They had two flawless classes as the crowd favorites.

Whitney and Alison took a quick day trip to NCASHAʼs Watsonville Show and came home victorious! Alison and Andy won the Novice Western class on Saturday!

It seems that summer is flying by for all of us at the Circus Club. Itʼs almost August which means Blondie, Ethan, and Jennifer will soon be making the trip back east for the World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. We

wish them all safe travels and the best of luck! Please check back soon for more updates on Louisville results, show news, and events happening at the barn!

CATHY & ART SAUER

We have had such an exciting Summer! Going to the Shows in California and re connecting with everyone there has been such a treat. We also purchased Pure Charm, and we are looking forward to showing her as well. Our colt, known as Joker won his first blue in a very competitive pleasure prospect class at C-Fair.

Sue Pheley and Brigitte Scholl worked very hard on the NCASHA 2013 Calendar - and their efforts really paid off. The calendars look great - AND YOU CAN OWN ONE!!!

Those at the show scooped up quite a few, but we have many left and would like to sell them. They are a major fundraiser for the club, the

pictures are wonderful and they are only $10 each!

JOHNNY 6 STABLES

All had a wonderful time at the Woodside horse show. Laura Ikuta had a great time showing Callaway's Commentary(5) in the Show Pleasure division. Johnny Jean Groce rode Chillaque in Walk trot.(1) Louise Brothers showed Lady in Walk Trot Academy(3), Joe Brothers showed Lady in the Equitation and Open English Pleasure Classes(2) and Greg Groce rode Chillaque in the Open English Pleasure Classes.(4)Johnny 6 Stables has truly been blessed with a wonderful group of people but even more so our Saddlebred friends. I am always proud to say how nice the Saddlebred horse shows are and the show barns seem to always support and encourage one another. Making these shows a wonderful getaway no matter what ribbon you get.It was the first "real" show for Joe and Louise Brothers and they felt very loved and appreciated not only by our barn but also by all of you.Thank you all my Saddlebred friends for making them and all of us have such a great time. You are a wonderful group of Crazy Saddlebred People.(6)Some quotes from Louise Brothers that I would like to share. It was just a wonderful Mother's Day gift. To be able to celebrate it with the animals and people I

love. I can not believe how far I have come and I have only been riding horses for such a short while. I am so proud to have decided to get involved in horses it was something completely new in my life. Before I went to the show, I told people at the barn that I had already felt like a winner because of Lady being such a wonderful horse and all that I had learned. Most importantly the horses has brought my son Joe and I closer than ever before, we really were able to reconnect. I thank all the people involved for helping Joe and I pursue this amazing dream.
