School Uniforms are important

at Bilambil Public School The NSW Department of Education supports

the wearing of school uniform. The wearing

of our school uniform helps build self-

confidence, school pride and a sense of

belonging at Bilambil Public School.

Our uniform was developed in collaboration

Perhaps most importantly, our uniform helps

us maintain our strong culture of equity.

key element to the beautiful culture of

kindness and care that we value so highly at

Tips from Mr Davis

Newsletter

Tip Number 6

They feel heard Sometimes it’s too easy when

you have things on your mind

to switch off and give

autopilot-type responses to

children’s attempts at

conversation. It may seem

to satisfy them, but notice

how joyfully they continue

when you are really

present, truly listen and

engage actively in

conversation with them.

Listening properly to our kids

teaches them to become

good listeners and good

conversationalists, too. Bring

humour into the

conversation, the sillier the

better. Kids have a strong

sense of fun and laughing

and joking together is a great

equaliser that strengthens the

bonds between you,

particularly when you have

special “in jokes” just

between the two of you.

Children have such fresh and

interesting perspectives on

things too, that you can learn

a lot by listening to them,

which in turn builds their self-

confidence and increases

their happiness. It will pay off

long term when they are

teenagers and are more

likely to talk to you because

there’s a history of easy,

open communication.

Mr Davis’s

Q: What happened when the wheel was invented?

A: It caused a revolution!

Q: Why did the teacher wear sunglasses?

A: Because his class was so bright!

3/4T is learning what it means to 'Be the change...' we wish to see in our classroom and school

community. We are discovering how we can make an impact on the global waste crisis by

changing the way we use plastic. We are very excited about some of the changes we wish to

see in our school. More to come.....

Stop polluting the ocean by Abraham How would you feel if you woke up in an ocean full of trash with hardly any room to move

around? There’s so much rubbish in the ocean we have to stop this problem.

Firstly, look at Trash Island, it’s a real island made of rubbish. There’s nothing under it but trash.

Seriously you can walk on Trash Island. It’s not funny! We have to stop this problem otherwise it

will just keep growing and growing at least a ton each week.

Secondly, why do we even toss? It’s not fun! Just put it in the bin. It’s not that hard. Heaps of

sea life are dying from rubbish in our water ways. This is not good.

In conclusion, there’s a lot of things we can do to help the ocean. We can help by using keep

cups, fabric bags, wooden straws and metal bottles and when you see rubbish pick it up and

dispose of it.

Stop polluting the ocean by Lilli Do you like seeing sea animals washed up on the beach? It is horrible when you go to the

beach with rubbish being washed up on the shore. We must respect our precious ocean and

throwing rubbish in it needs to come to an end today!

Firstly, have you seen the horrifying photos and videos about sea life eating plastic? A few

months ago in Thailand they found a baby whale washed up on the beach that swallowed 80

plastic bags. How would you like to be a turtle that could not tell between plastic bags and

jelly fish and ate all the plastic bags.

Secondly, do you know about Trash Island? Trash Island has no land underneath! Trash Island

was created because we threw so much trash around, it is now a massive big island. If you

don’t know what I am talking about you can literally walk on Trash Island. It floats around in the

Pacific Ocean. I can’t believe it! It’s a disaster!

Finally, if you want to help, grab a reusable bag and go to the beach, park, shopping centre

and the street and pick the rubbish up! You can even make a tonne of posters and put them

up in the shops.

In conclusion, I definitely wish SOFT PLASTIC WAS NEVER MADE!! We must step up for our sea life.

So come on world, start picking up for yourself.

Stop polluting the ocean by Hugo Do you really want to be swimming in polluted oceans? It would be devastating walking

around and seeing plastic taking over our environment for the rest of our life. We must stop

polluting our precious oceans now!

Firstly, there has been a massive impact on our sea life because of plastic. The amount of

plastic in our ocean is horrendous. Our sea life is in danger because of us. We must make a

change to save our sea life.

Secondly, Trash Island just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Trash Island is a polluted land full of

rubbish. It has nothing underneath it but trash. We need to limit this pollution.

Finally, we need to reduce the amount of plastic that we use on our planet. We can do this by

using keep cups for coffee’s, smoothies and juice. Let’s use metal straws instead of plastic

straws and use reusable bags.

In conclusion, it’s your choice if you want to help. All you have to do is pick up a piece of

rubbish and use less plastic. You can be the change.

Congratulations to all students

who performed at

Murwillumbah Performing Arts

Festival last week, our students

certainly did themselves and

our school proud. They were

focused and enthusiastic in

their poetry performances and

very well behaved throughout

the entire time!

Despite the competition being

of a very high standard, Stage

3 and Kindergarten came

away with a Highly

Commended and 3/4M and

3C received 2nd place. A big

thank you to all students and

staff for time spent rehearsing

and preparing and a thank

you to all parents for

supporting this venture.

It is a great opportunity for the

students to gain confidence in

performing and public

speaking, work in unison as a

team and to have their time

to shine on stage. Great job

everyone!

ICAS Assessments Bilambil Public School will be participating in the world-renowned

ICAS Assessments this year. ICAS is developed by UNSW Global, a

wholly owned subsidiary of the University of New South Wales,

with over 35 years’ experience in educational assessments.

ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and

problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing,

Spelling and Digital Technologies.

Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by

providing opportunities for recognition. Every student will receive

a certificate and an online result report. Top performers will be

eligible for medals and are invited to attend special award

ceremonies to have their academic excellence publicly

recognised.

We encourage you to consider entering your child into ICAS this

year. The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend

themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of

competing in an international assessment. Your child will be

presented with

high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply

their learning without the need for prior study or revision.

ICAS Assessments are now online, a move that reflects a

sector-wide transition to computer-based assessment. This allows

greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.

ICAS Online Parent

Canteen Kitchen Rules

The class with the second most amount of money raised in the

five cent challenge is… I honestly don’t know. But what I do

know is that they will be the recipients of the best cup-cakes

they will eat that day! Beautifully iced and decorated with

some snake lolly and M&M’s.

No wonder so many classes were trying to get into the top 2!

Well done boys for your cooking efforts. You have learned lots

and you have displayed great attitudes. Best part is that the

teachers have seen improvements to students in the classroom

as a result of being involved in Canteen Kitchen Rules.

Seasons for Growth

Wow! I have really enjoyed this group and getting to know

these amazing students from Stage 3. I love their honesty and

openness. This week is our last week together. Great stuff guys. I

hope you’ve grown through this experience. Bring on the next

group. There’s another group waiting in the wings.

Boot Camp

The lads have been pushed

and they are loving it! I think I

need to push them harder.

They are learning to work as a

team and encourage one

another. One lad, after doing

his part in the team, just

collapsed and laid down to

catch his breath. Fantastic

effort! There are no put-downs

in this group. Anyone putting

another person down owes 10

push ups.

Stage 3 Maths Group

One of the reasons I teach

and do chaplaincy is for the

“ah-ha” moments when the

students understand

something, especially if it’s

been a battle to learn the

concept. Last week we had

some “ah-ha” moments with

long division. Very exciting

stuff!

Have happy and safe holidays

everyone. See you Week 3

next term as we head of for an

epic road trip up the middle of

Australia.

Sports Carnival volunteers needed Our school athletics carnival is always a great day with an

awesome atmosphere.

It’s also one of the biggest days on the P&C calendar as we

provide all the food and drink for the hungry athletes and their

cheer squad. This year it is being held on Friday, 26 July 2019.

If you can support us in any way – whether it be setting up, turning

sausages on the BBQ, baking for our cake stall or helping us

behind the counters in between your child’s events that would be much appreciated.

Please email: [email protected] or speak to Chappy Gav at school if you can help.

You don’t have to give us all day, just an hour of your time allows one of our other volunteers to

take a break and enjoy the atmosphere!

was great.

And you can do it all again at the end of the year. Whether

your children have done it before or doing it for the first time,
