Guest Speaker This week we had the privilege of hearing from Dr. Feldman, the Rebbe’s
Doctor, and Zeidy of three of our Talmidim. It was an amazing experience
to hear the story of Rosh Chodesh Kislev firsthand.
Do you say ת“חת ? 26 years ago, the Rebbe instituted the Mivtza of saying Chitas.
The 6th grade is now starting a program to say Chitas/Rambam. Every
day they will get a paper with the following on it:
Chumash– there will be the Hebrew text of the Chumash of the
day with nekudos.
Tanya– the daily Tanya
Tehilim– the kapitalach of that day (not the Kapital itself, just which kapitalach to say)
Sefer Hamitzvos– the daily mitzva/mitzvos of the day in English
Hayom Yom– the daily Hayom Yom in English
Special Insight– this will rotate between:
• Kesser Shem Tov
• Chasidishe story
• Chumash of the day summary in English
• Rambam of the day summary or actual text
• Parsha Dvar Torah
• Tanya explanation
This paper they get will also come along with a ticket. On the ticket
they will check off what they did and give it in to be into the raffle.
There will be a daily raffle on a brownie bar or a black and white
cookie and a weekly raffle on a big Danish (sponsored by Rabbi
Wiener).
On the paper there will be 6 options to check off (like
it says a little earlier)
They will have to fill out at least 4 of them to get into the daily raffle and
to get into the weekly raffle you would have to be part of at least 5 of the
6 raffles during the week.
So far during this week we got the whole class almost
every day!
We hope to continue giving the Rebbe nachas and have
the whole class doing this mivtza!
Know Your Brochos!
Pomegranates are known to be a symbol of life and good health. Did you know
that there is more scientific research being done on pomegranates than almost
any other fruit, because it has so many health benefits? The pomegranate is an
ancient fruit that is mentioned many times in Tanach. It is one of the seven
species with which Hashem blessed Eretz Yisroel so it has a special after-Brocha.
Where do we find pomegranates in Torah?
Pomegranates are connected to one of the first stories in the Torah. When Adam
and Chava were in Gan Eden, they ate fruit from the forbidden tree, the Eitz Hadas.
Some say that this tree was a pomegranate tree.
The pomegranate is known to be a symbol of health and fertility. This is why it is
one of the seven species used to describe the land of Israel as a rich and fruitful land.
When the Jewish people were traveling in the desert, they complained that there
were no pomegranates to demonstrate how barren the desert was, with no sign of
life.
When describing the devastation that came with the destruction of the second Beis
Hamikdash, the Navi Yoel says that the pomegranate trees in the field have
withered.
The pomegranate was also used as an ornament for decoration. The hem of the
robe worn by the Kohen Gadol had pomegranates made of twisted yarn.
Shlomo Hamelech’s crown was designed based on the “crown” of the pomegranate.
In the Talmud, a pomegranate is used to describe a student who only chooses good:
“He found a pomegranate, ate the fruit, and threw away the peel.”
Some more facts about pomegranates:
The pomegranate tree was introduced to the U.S. when Spanish settlers brought it to California in 1769.
After being picked, pomegranates can be left in storage for up to 7 months. In storage, they become juicier and more flavorful.
The red seeds inside a pomegranate are called arils. A pomegranate tree can produce between 440 and 660 pounds of fruit in one year.
