FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members and Friends of the Hill United Presbyterian Church:
The Advent and Christmas Season of the Christian year focuses on two great truths: First, the Incarnation in Jesus and second, the three great Christian claims about who Jesus is. We learn about the Incarnation (that is, the taking on of human form and nature by Jesus conceived of as the Son of God) in John’s Gospel in Chapter 1. John 1:1 and 1:14 state, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God….and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.” We learn about the three great Christian claims about who Jesus is in Luke 2: 10-11 in the announcement of the angel to the shepherds: “And the angel said to them, ‘Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord!’” The Advent and Christmas seasons demonstrate to us the miraculous love of God for us in this world! Have a “Merry Christmas” as I hope that you live and share this amazingly good news with others. Please join us and invite others to be with us this Advent and Christmas Season!
In Christmas Love and Peace,
Pastor Clark Rev. Clark Sawyer
May You feel God's
presence in the candles, that
softly spread their glow at
Christmas and may you
experience the wonder of
His abiding love, as He
guides you, through each day
of the coming year. May
God's Blessings be with
you. We wish you a Merry
Christmas and a Blessed
New Year!

Head Start Happy Holidays
The Deacons are once again sponsoring the Head
Start Happy Holidays, and we would appreciate
your help. The purpose of this project is to provide one
Christmas gift for each of the 40 students in two
classes at the Head Start School where Arlene Roth
teaches.
Head Start is a low-income, federally-funded
preschool with sites throughout Butler County.
Although the families may be serviced through other
community organizations, support is limited this
year due to the economy of our region.
Here’s how you can help:
Look for the Christmas tree on the bulletin board
in the overflow room of the sanctuary from
December 1 through December 15.
Remove a star or angel from the tree and buy the
present listed there that the child is dreaming of.
Gifts are in the $25-$50 range.
PLEASE be sure to put your NAME, PHONE
NUMBER, and THE NUMBER FOUND ON
THE STAR OR ANGEL on the sign up sheet on
the bulletin board in the overflow room.
Place the gift in a gift bag (please do not wrap)
with the star or angel tag around the handle of
the bag.
Return the gift to the church by December 15.
Place it on the tables in the Deacons’ room in the
back upstairs hallway. If the door is locked,
leave it in the church office. THANK YOU!
Socks, gloves, mittens, and/or hats would also
be appreciated.
If you have questions, please contact Arlene at 724-
282-6489 or Sharon Montag, Moderator of Deacons,
at 724-285-3231. As always, Deacons appreciate
the love you show to our community through your
generous donations.
STEWARDSHIP AND MISSION SUPPORT
COMMITTEE YEAR END REMINDERS
The Stewardship and Mission Support Committee
wants to thank everyone for sharing their time,
talents and treasure throughout 2013 in support
of the mission and ministries of Hill Church. As
we wrap up the current year and prepare for
2014 we would like to share these helpful tips:
December 29th is the deadline for receipt of any
offerings to be included in the 2013 financial
statements of Hill Church and on the final
individual giving statements mailed to our donors.
All checks and donations must be dated on or
before December 29, 2013 and received in the
church office by noon of that date.
Boxes of offering envelopes for 2014
will be labeled and set out on tables in
the overflow area of the church. You
may pick up your box of offering
envelopes anytime between December 15 and
January 5, 2014. Boxes of envelopes that have
not been picked up by January 5, 2014 will be
mailed.
A number of members have asked about the first
envelope in the box entitled “Initial Offering”.
Money received through the “Initial Offering” is
used to help offset the cost of purchasing boxes
of offering envelopes and if necessary mailing
those boxes.
Please note that it is likely that
your offering envelope number
will change each year. Please
remember to use your new
offering envelopes beginning on
Sunday, January 5, 2014 so that Jennifer can
properly credit your offering on your giving
statements.

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT
The Christmas card project wrapped up on November 25th when the cards
were mailed to the students in the Bubiashie District. Thank you to all who
signed cards. The young women appreciate hearing from us. If anyone has kept up a contact
with someone in the Bubiashie District, you are reminded to send a Christmas card on your
own. Postage is $1.10.
Don’t forget to consider our scholarship fund for Christmas gifts as you honor a friend or
family member. As we look ahead to 2014, we continue to encourage each of you to plan a
scholarship fund contribution.
We are pleased to have Miranda Brady and Emma Gebrosky join our task force. Miranda is a
college student while Emma is in high school. We look forward to younger viewpoints and
new ideas as we journey together in our mission to the Bubiashie District.
Please keep the Bubiashie District churches, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of the Bubiashie
scholarship committee, as well as the students in your prayers.
