Year 4 children enjoying their Arts Day at St Laurence School this week.
Welcome back to our final term of the year and
already we have hit the ground running with lots of
exciting learning and activities having taken place.
We are delighted to welcome back Rosie Alty to our
team. Rosie has been on maternity leave and now re-
joins us in her role as Teaching Assistant. We have also
been welcoming our new Reception children for
September this week. It has been lovely to see how
well they are settling and we look forward to getting
to know them more over the next few weeks. It is, of
course, our final term with Mrs Cook and Mrs Purkiss
and I know that you will join me in wishing them a
thoroughly enjoyable term at Westwood School.
Already this term Clover and Thistle class have had the
opportunity to experience international face to face
learning with our friends in Room 104 of Georgetown
Elementary School in the USA. Throughout the year
we have had many opportunities to share knowledge,
traditions and social culture and it has been a real joy
to see how well the children have communicated,
showing respect and a thirst for knowledge.
I am also very proud of our Digital Leaders who, this
week, led a whole school assembly on their own,
promoting and leading a good discussion on ESafety
and being aware online. With confident delivery and a
strong message, children across the school were given
a clear and well-structured message of how we can
look after ourselves and each other.
You may have noticed that our school podcast
episodes have been very well played over the past few
weeks. The children have demonstrated wonderful
broadcasting skills, preparing their own scripts and I
hope you will agree that the outcomes are easy to
listen to and very informative. If you haven’t yet
caught up with one, please visit the school homepage
for our latest episode. It’s a short audio recording that
encapsulates school news, sports, ESafety and a host
of content decided by the children and is well worth
taking time to enjoy. For a great archive of episode
recordings, please also visit
www.soundcloud.com/mrrockey.
Can I wish you a really lovely weekend and a
wonderful last term.

Friday 24th June is Fathers Friday at school. All dads,
grandads and significant males in our pupils’ lives are
all welcome to come and spend part or all of the day

RADIO SUCCESS
After the success of our Radio Day last term, we have
been asked by the organisers whether our Year 6
children would be prepared to attend the West of
England ICT Conference on Thursday 30th June to act
as broadcasters and interviewees. This is a high profile
event for the South West region and will be attended
by many professionals and educators. Our school has
been specifically chosen and it is a wonderful
opportunity for them to showcase their skills and
confidence in an exciting environment.

SCHOOL GARDEN
We were very lucky to have some Dads visit on Thursday and they came armed with
power tools. Miss Brown’s plan for a seating area near the patch is coming to fruition.
Watch this space to see the end result.
Many thanks to all the parent helpers who donate so much time to maintaining and
improving our Patch.
If you have a wheelbarrow or water butt or any other garden items or equipment that
you think be of some use to Gardening Club, please see Miss Brown.
Since our last newsletter, the Garden Patch has been thriving.
Miss Brown has held some successful plant sales and the
proceeds funded some new pond dipping nets for the children to
use.
Every seed sown has grown incredibly over the past few weeks
and as such become very tempting to the local wildlife! Gardening
Club are now waging war on SLUGS!
