Staffing update

It is that time of year where we are developing our workforce plan for the next school year.

Mr Trevor Ellington who started with us this year in Mr Pilgrim’s absence has accepted a position at Lake Bolac College, closer to his home. We have been putting the pressure on Mr Ellington for a number of months now to convince him and his wife to leave the rocky, wet and windy climate of South Purrumbete and move to the warmer, drier climate of the southern Mallee. Despite our best efforts logic has prevailed and we wish Trevor and Lesley all of the best for next year.

Mrs. Melanie Andrews also started with us at the beginning of the year replacing Miss Steph Newton who was on family leave. With Miss Newton’s return this term we will be saying farewell to Mrs. Andrews at the end of this school year. On behalf of the students, staff and parents of Rainbow P-12 College I’d like to thank Mrs. Andrews for her work at our school this year.

Mystery Auction

With the delivery of 200 new stackable chairs for the school hall the old seating is surplus to our needs.

From some of the conversations I have had with people a number of community groups may be interested in acquiring the seats.

The fairest way to dispose of these resources in a transparent and fair way is to offer them for purchase through a ‘mystery Auction”.

There are 54 rows each with 5 spring loaded seats in varying condition available.

If you would like to bid for these items in our ‘Mystery Auction’, write the number of rows of seats you or your group would like, how much you are prepared to pay for each row of 5, your name and telephone number on a piece of paper, put it in a sealed envelope marked “Mystery Auction” and hand it in at the College office before 4.00 pm on Thursday the 10th of November. If you wish to view the items please call the school to arrange a suitable time.

The highest bid will choose the seats they want first and each successive bidder will then select theirs.

Student Illness

If your child is ill at school or requires first aid there are procedures that are followed. Ms. Clarke is the senior school First Aid co-ordinator and the class teachers in the Junior school. If a junior school student is ill the class teacher will phone the parent/guardian or apply first aid if needed. In the senior school students are sent to see Ms. Clarke (if she is absent they will go to see the front office staff). If the student is ill and needs to go home a phone call will be made to the parents. Students are texting parents who are coming to pick them up and we have no prior knowledge of this. WALK TO SCHOOL MONTH October has been Walk to School Month with students at the junior school keeping tally of how many days they walk to and from school. We also had two visits from the Horsham Sports Assembly who provided a wide variety of lunchtime activities. Thanks to the Hindmarsh Shire for organising the Walk to School month activities. The month ended with a walking school bus on Friday with a number of students, junior and senior (thanks Josh) venturing along to join a very “pacey” school bus, thanks to the prompt driving of our “bus driver” Mrs Gregory. Thanks must also go to Senior Constable Tony Clark who stopped traffic at one of the intersections to give our bus right of way.

SRC NEWS SRC Garden - Our SRC Garden is coming along nicely. We have had a lot of helpers over the past few weeks getting the garden into shape. Another huge thankyou needs to go to Mick McKenzie who drove in a large ute load of gravel. This will be the foundations of the garden before we put the synthetic turf over it. Not to mention the hard working students who shovelled, wheelbarrowed and levelled the gravel out during lunch time. Miss Wedding has potted and planted some nice hanging baskets with some lovely flowers along the area. Another thankyou goes to Kevin Wedding for picking up the large roll of synthetic turf from Horsham for the SRC. Everyone's help and kind donations of time, sand and gravel is so very much appreciated by the SRC, we could not do this without you all. Watch this space for more progress reports on the SRC Garden. New SRC Presidents 2017 - We have new SRC presidents for 2017. Rainbow P-12 College would like to announce that Kimberley Roll and Bridie OHalloran will be our SRC presidents for 2017. Kimberley and Bridie presented a speech to the P-12 students at assembly, talking about the ideas they wish to put into action next year. Well done girls.
