Ready, Set, Go! And finished!

We have concluded our Prep orientation program for the 2018 Preppies and parents. Feedback

received from parents in the program (even our experienced parents), reported that it was very

worthwhile.

Our goal for the Ready-Set-Go! Program is to provide orientation experiences that support a seamless transition from Kinder to Prep for all children and for our new parents to welcome them into our community. From our observations of the 2018 Prep group, they will be a great group, and already very settled! Thank you to: Linda Batten (Prep Team Leader and program co-ordinator); Laura Wandke and Lucy Jones, the 2017 Prep Teachers, for their work in the program; to all staff, parents and students who contributed to the program and were such a great help across all 3 sessions. It was wonderful to see our soon to be new preppies, so excited and confident by the end of the program. We had a different speaker this year, Michael Grose who is an author of 10 parenting books. Michael did a presentation on ‘How to raise independent children’ and parent feedback was positive around the strategies and information Michael gave in relation to how to raise confident, resilient, independent kids who will be ready to launch.

Don’t forget to put our end of year Picnic Tea date and time into your e-calenders! Look forward to

seeing you there.

Kerrie Williams, Principal

The theme for our day will be: 'Bella Italia!’ The children are required to come to school dressed in a character or famous Italian. Ideas to consider could include: Pinocchio, La Befana, Michelangelo, Da Vinci, soccer players etc. If this is too difficult, children may dress in neat casual attire representing the colours of the Italian flag which are: VERDE- Green BIANCO- White Rosso-Red. We will begin with an official opening of the day with the Vice President of The Dante Alighieri Society Melbourne at 9:10 a.m. on the ABC Turf. The Vice President will be presenting our two Multimedia winners, Besinda and Kate with their prize and then our activities will begin!! PLEASE DO NOT HIRE ANY COSTUMES. THIS IS NOT NECESSARY! All children will need to wear comfortable shoes on our Italian Day. Shoes suitable for lots of

movement. No soccer boots please. Please remember to wear your hat for all outdoor activities. Please keep the weather in mind for your costume and please do not allow your child to bring

expensive/precious items to school. Students will need to bring their own playlunch for Recess or some extra snacks if they feel lunch will

not be enough. Don’t forget the drink bottle!! If your child does not have the pizza lunch, they will need to bring their own lunch on the day. Students in the junior school will need to bring either a plastic/canvas shopping bag to carry home any

thing that they make during the day. The Italian Newspaper ‘Il Globo’ has been invited to our day as well as other media- So smile

everyone!! Special Hamper Raffle: A family has generously donated mini hampers filled with Italian goodies. On Italian Day each student will have an opportunity to be part of this special raffle by receiving a ticket for their participation, collaboration, encouragement, resilience etc for each session that they take part in. Teachers will look for these qualities during the activities and all tickets will go into the draw for the raffle. We sincerely appreciate all of the work that has gone into the hampers and the generosity from this family. Superbo! PLEASE NOTE: The pasta making and eating activity has been cancelled. Thank you to those parents who had volunteered to run this activity and to those parents who offered their pasta machine to be used. We can perhaps run this activity early next year as part of a theme in Italian classes. A BIG GRAZIE to those parents who have volunteered their time for Italian Day especially at this busy time of year. We could not have this event without your generous help and continued support. It is very much appreciated and I will be emailing you further details shortly. **PARENT HELPERS: For pizza distribution and gelato distribution from the canteen area: Pizza delivery will be in three stages beginning at 12:30 until 1:30. Gelato distribution will take place from 2:20. All food will need to be delivered to the classrooms. Until next week, buon divertimento on Italian Day!! Saluti (cheers), Signorina Rosa Italian Coordinator and Teacher (Year 3 to 6)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

We still need coordinators for the following areas if they are to be offered at the 2018 Fete. Please email

Pauline at [email protected] if you can help.

PLANT STALL

Grab some friends and start sourcing plant donations from the community & local businesses and help

setup the stall on the day. The previous coordinator is still available to provide tips and tricks. So you

won’t be alone! This could be a very popular stall next year, so we don’t want to miss out!

KIDS ENTERTAINMENT STAGE

This stage is always packed with excited kids who love to sing, dance and so much more! You would

be responsible for booking the karaoke machine and other entertainment (contact details provided from

prior year, which will be a big help). On the day, you would help setup and work with other volunteers to

ensure all activities run to schedule.

Leading up to the end of Term 4, please keep in mind the items we are seeking for donations: bottles

for mystery bottle stall; Helens Harvest jams/chutneys; Tea cups/saucers; craft donations; second hand

goods; hamper items; auction items (especially if you have a holiday house you’d like to donate for a

weekend getaway!).

Darebin Safe Travel to School Survey - How do you get to school?

Darebin City Council is investigating what works well to make school journeys easier and safer for everyone.

Changes to roads and paths have been made around your school, but that is only part of the picture and they

need your help. As the person who makes the school run twice a day, come rain or shine, it is you and your

children that know the journey inside out. They want to know about your experience.

Please help Darebin as they try to improve the school journey by completing this short parent/guardian survey

and the even shorter student survey by Friday 15 December. It takes less than ten minutes. Participants enter a

prize draw and can win a $50 gift voucher – just in time for Christmas!
