Dear Parents and Community As the new principal of Chapman Valley Primary School, I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce or reacquaint myself to you, as some may already know me. I am essentially a local girl. I grew up on a farm at Ajana (maiden name Sutherland) and attended Binnu Primary School, then later Geraldton Senior High School. After a time in Perth, I met my husband and we travelled around the country over a period of ten years, living in various locations while he was in the Army. While in Darwin we had our first baby girl, Kadie, and not long after we moved back to live in Kalbarri for around 4 years where I taught and had my second little girl, Mackenzie. We have been in Geraldton since 2012, where I have worked at Waggrakine and Bluff Point Primary Schools as a deputy principal. My husband Gary is also now a teacher and he and both our girls are at Waggrakine. I am so excited to be joining the Chapman Valley Primary School community. I have such fantastic memories of my time as a country kid and the amazing opportunities that Binnu Primary afforded, and I know that the students at Chapman Valley are enjoying these same benefits. I know already that Chapman Valley has an incredibly strong and proactive community and I am looking forward to becoming a part of it. Please know that my door is always open and that your children’s education and positive school experience is my priority. I can be contacted at any time via email and the school phone, or after hours on my mobile. Don’t hesitate to drop in to the school and say hello, I’m looking forward to meeting all of you. SCHOOL NEWS

Our current focus value is GENEROSITY

Generosity is the habit of giving without expecting anything in return. It can involve offering time, assets or talents to aid someone in need. Being generous is to be kind, thoughtful and considerate of the needs of others.

Reading Eggs and Mathletics We are excited to announce that we have just purchased Reading Eggs/Reading Eggspress and Mathletics subscriptions for all students within the school. These are fantastic online programs that support literacy and numeracy development in a fun and interactive way. An added benefit of both programs is that they can also be used at home either on a computer or through using the free apps available for iPads. Students will soon bring home their account login details. Please keep these handy on the fridge so that they don’t get lost.

Playgroup Update Please be aware that there will be no playgroup at Chapman Valley Primary School this term. We will soon begin the process of community consultation to arrange a suitable alternative to our current model of running playgroup, these details will be advised ASAP. Please don’t hesitate to come and have a chat with Mel if you have any concerns.

Happy Birthday to Robert Starcevich, he celebrated his birthday during the holidays.

Happy Birthday to Eva Ramshaw who will celebrate her birthday on Saturday.

Soup Roster and Hot Lunches It’s that time of year again! We need volunteers to go on our Wednesday soup roster. If you are able to make a pot of soup one Wednesday this term, please fill in the slip on the next page and return it to the school so that we can create a roster. It would be fantastic if we could start this next Wednesday. Hot lunches will start in Week 4.

P&C News

Welcome Afternoon Tea to meet our new Principal, Mrs Hancock.

The P & C would like to invite all community members to attend our Welcome Afternoon Tea on Friday 1st May at 3pm outside the school library to meet Mrs Hancock, our new Principal. Bring a share plate of nibbles or finger food and enjoy a delicious slushie made by none other than the local Men’s Shed members. It is a great opportunity to see what’s happening down at the school these days and the smoothies are on the P & C.

We’d love to see you there and everyone is welcome. Jane Barndon P & C PRESIDENT

Mother’ Day Morning Tea Crunch time for the Mother’s Day Morning Tea – With only two weeks left we ask that you please get your raffle donations into the office by Thursday 7th May so they can be bundled up and ready for Friday. A reminder, that we can’t have a ‘morning tea’ without your generous donation of delicious plates of food. We are asking for one sweet and one savoury per family and these can be dropped at the hall on Friday morning (8th May) or sent with children on the bus. Volunteers as always are very welcome and the following times are when you are needed. Thursday 7th May 2:30pm Table and chair setup inside the hall, (we do need some strong people for this one but there are plenty of lighter jobs on the list as well). If you are giving us your tables or gazebo for this event, please drop them off to the hall on Thursday afternoon. Friday 8th May 8.00am Gazebo setup 8.30am and last minute preparations in the hall and kitchen helpers. (Kitchen helpers are welcome at any time throughout the morning as well). Most important of all is the fact that everyone is welcome, it is a fabulous morning and lots of fun, bring your friends and enjoy. CV Community Directory Urgent – We are updating the CV Community Directory this year and have every intention of providing the new edition at the Mother’s Day Morning Tea. If you have not updated your details or need to be added to the directory, please do so ASAP by visiting cvcdirectory.weebly.com The deadline for updates and new information is Thursday 30th April. At the end of the day these are details you want your neighbours to know so that they can look out for you. This is the book that floats around in your office and glove box – saving the day when your phone tragically hits the dirt. Meeting Dates: Catering Committee: Monday 4th May at 1pm at the Valley Tavern

Next General Meeting: Tuesday 23rd June at 3.15pm in the School Library Regards Cam Starcevich P & C Secretary
