From the President

t is now six months since I have had the privilege of being the 22nd President of the RSL

Largs Bay Sub-Branch. What a busy four months it has been. A new

Club Website has been constructed and a small subcommittee has been

formed to maintain, update and improve the site. The site can be found at:

http://www.largsbayrsl.com.au/ and all members are encouraged to submit

their recommendations for improvement to me or the Club Secretary.

During this period we have had a number of Bands entertain us at the Club

including a very successful and enjoyable night this month with a band

called Frenzy. Future entertainment nights will incur a booking fee to ensure that booked tables

are fully utilised.

There has been a re allocation of duties to a number of the Management Committee and

hopefully these will improve the organisation and running of the “Front of House”.

A new Television has been installed above the office door. The main role of this TV is as a

promotional and advertising medium. You will notice that it already displays upcoming events,

Member’s Birthdays, Meals and other items of interest to the members.

The Management Committee has developed two sponsorship packages for the Club and we are

confident that in the near future, new club sponsors will be given

acknowledgement through this medium, the Club website and

our Facebook page.

At the recommendation of John Aspinall, the Club has

purchased a hot dog machine and it was duly tested during a

televised Port Adelaide match in late July. From all reports the

members enjoyed the hotdogs during the breaks in the game and

we were able to sell around three dozen hotdogs.

Bar News

One of our long established claims is that: “We still have the best beer on the

Peninsula – beautifully cold, with a good head!”

This is no idle claim as anyone who has tried beer at other drinking holes

around Le Fevre Peninsula will testify.

However this standard of beer does not just happen by chance. A lot of effort

goes into justifying the claim.

The temperature of the beer is one vital element which is relatively easy to

control, but the major difference between a very good beer and an average

beer is the cleanliness of the beer lines.

Geoff “Agro” Hanson, Life Member, Past President

and long term member of the Management

Committee has been responsible for this vital duty

for some years now. He is meticulous in ensuring

that the cleaning of the beer lines is done regularly

and according to a proven procedure. Well done

Geoff! Geoff also purchases all the keg beer.

There have also been some recent

changes in the responsibilities associated with the bar. Jules

Mitchell is now responsible to ensure that the bar staff meet the

legal requirements regarding badging and other training as well as

overseeing the rostering of bar staff.

Other duties related to provisioning of the bar include

purchasing of all packaged beverages. This is now the

responsibility of John Aspinall.

Many thanks to Natalie Boyes and Bob McCulloch for photos in this issue……Ed

“Lest We Forget”

Remembrance Day Wednesday 11th November 2015

Right at the core of tradition in the RSL is the observance of remembering the fallen. Each evening, 363 days per

year, the ODE is recited.

Remembrance Day and Anzac Day are the two most important days in the RSL calendar.

Remembrance Day commemorates the armistice which was signed and became effective at 11:00 am on the 11th

November 1918, and as the guns fell silent on the Western Front in France and Belgium, four years of hostilities in

the Great War ended.

Remembrance Day is a time when we remember those who were killed in both world wars and in subsequent wars

and conflicts.

As has been our custom we will be holding a Remembrance Day service on the 11th

November commencing at

10:45 am and concluding just after 11:00 am.

We would like to see as many members, their families, guests and visitors as possible here for the service.

Medals should be worn by those eligible.

Following the service morning tea will be provided and normal bar facilities will be available at happy hour prices.

Please make a special effort to attend this very important service on Wednesday 11th November.
