VALUED SPONSORS LARGS BAY SAILING CLUB NEWSLETTER GOLD SPONSOR SUPPORT SILVER SPONSOR SUPPORT As has been reported elsewhere, we lost our start boat, Largs 2, last Friday evening, as it was being prepared for launching, ahead of the weekend’s racing. Luckily, no one was hurt, and no other property damage occurred. We are grateful to all involved at the time, and afterwards, for all of the support offered to the Club while we come to terms with the situation. The incident serves as a timely reminder that trouble rarely gives us any warning. We want all of our members to stay safe, both at work and at play, so please, whatever the task, take 5 minutes to think the job through, stay safe, and look out for each other. On the topic of safety, vehicle speed on the boat ramps and beach should be kept to a walking pace. Unfortunately, a regular beach user has contacted us and complained, so please adopt sensible speeds when travelling up and down the ramps. If you are driving a club vehicle, you are representing our club, so please set the right example. The 2019/2020 Sharpie 77th Nationals were hosted by Mounts Bay Sailing Club, Perth earlier this year. 53 vessels nominated, promising a regatta full of excitement. The 2 invitation races and first 6 heats were all sailed in about 18 - 35knots, with fairly flat water, a perfect recipe for good, fast racing. The conditions favoured the left side of the course, so picking the wrong side could easily see a boat lose 10 places very quickly. Conditions completely changed for the final heat, with the wind dropping and the right side of the course becoming favoured. There were a couple of crashes, and damaged boats as a result, as crews pushed themselves to the limit in a big fleet. At the end, it was a 1, 2, 3 for the West Australian boats, with three boats from Adelaide Sailing Club coming in 4th, 5th and 6th. Our own LBSC sharpies, Beer Nuts (Steve Luders, Justin Kennaway, Heath Belton) and Wet Dream (Barry Otoole, Adam Common, Chester Armstrong) came in 10th and 32nd respectively. Staying with the Sharpies, the second leg of the 2019-20 SA Sharpie States will be held at the Arno Bay Yacht Club on Eyre Peninsula on the 7 th and 8 th of March, as part of the iconic 2020 Queen of the Gulf Regatta. Come along for a great weekend of awesome racing, and quality country hospitality. Either bring your boat, or register your interest as a spare crew. For more info contact Harry Fisher at [email protected] . The Adelaide to Port Lincoln race starts at 3pm this coming Friday. The club bar will be open from 2.30pm, with $5 beer and wine from 3pm until 4pm. Come on down for a great view of the race from our balcony, and stick around for dinner with Whisk Catering from 6pm.
