ick tock, tick tock, my deadline islooming. The newsletter information is due to Pam, our Editor. Tick tock, also, coming to a close is my term asPresident. It has been my honor to servefor the past three years. Tick tock, theHoosier Chapter is blessed with a terrific Board of Directorswho have supported me and you in making our chapter sovibrant. My sincere thanks to all current and former Boardmembers who have made my term so pleasurable. Ticktock, the torch is being passed to a group who will continueto grow the club and provide a wide range of activities foryou and your car to enjoy. Tick tock, and now, I will wash thecar in preparation to participate in Mert’s Ohio River Drivetomorrow. Tick tock.

We have been having fun in our BMWs and with our BMWfriends. Kash Rahman is on a roll! He hosted two more scenic drives since our last newsletter and you have an opportunity to participate in his last tour of the year in November; see calendar. We were well represented in the

he Carmel Artomobilia takes place each August and is Central Indiana’s annual celebration of the art and design of the automobile. This event features a distinct gathering of artists, collector cars and automotiveenthusiasts showcased on the streets of Carmel, Indiana’s Arts & Design District. Once again in 2013, your Hoosier Chapter brought an eclectic 40+ year mix of Bimmers. The Artomobilia is a great format for sharing our fondness for Bavaria’s best, and we received many inquiries from local BMW owners who were interested in joining the BMW CCA and our Hoosier Chapter.

Club member Ben Younce showed his 1971 BMW 1602 in the judged European Car 1925-1973 class. This class covers a broad range of vehicles and is normally dominated by finely restored VW Bugs and busses. Ben’s Nevada beige over saddle/black, an unrestored survivor with just 47,500 miles on the clock, won “best in class” award for its originality and well preserved status as the deciding factor in this year’s competition. “Being the caretaker of the 1602 is such a fun responsibility—I do spend quite a bit of time explaining to people just how a 42 year old BMW could still be this nice,” said Younce. “At right around 100 HP, the 1602 is not an extreme highway cruiser, but the little M10 four paired with a silky four-speed keeps up just fine in modern traffic and is a real blast drive”.

OFFICIAL BALLOT

ctober 12, 2013 was the date of the Fifth Annual HoosierChapter Ohio River Tour, the longest one day driving tour the chapter produces. This all day event consists of approximately ten hours behind the wheel of your BMW onthe winding highways and byways of southern Indiana.

Fifteen BMW automobiles gathered in Columbus, Indiana justoff I-65 to begin a journey of spirited mastery of some of themost exciting roads in our state. While the scenery is certainlythe highpoint of the trip it’s the roads that we all come for! This challenging road trip allows each driver to test both himor herself, as well as their automobile on the twisty and winding pavements of South West Indiana. Concentration isthe key to the spirited fun of this adventure.

As has become a tradition with this annual event, the groupstopped for a two hour lunch interlude at the lovely RockyPoint Waterfront Grill in Cannelton, Indiana, over looking theOhio River. The stop is needed to refuel both the drivers’ and passengers’ bodies as well a time to swap tales of the mornings exciting escapades. With thecontinuing interestin this event, we willbe planning for theSixth running in thecoming year. Thanksto Mert Zorlu for developing andleading this wonderful tour.

even brave souls in 4 cars set off in our wettest drive ever! Wedrove around I-465 with barely any visibility thanks to the heavy rain, before taking off on I-70. We then took US-231 South until we met up with the newly constructed I-69! We enjoyed 25 miles on this virgin highway, along with a group photo thanks to virtually no traffic!! We then took US-150 as it curved through beautiful and scenic southern Indiana, before finally arriving at the French Lick Resort and Casino!

In the afternoon, we split up and relaxed — some went bowling, others hit the casino (and won!) and yet others toured the historic West Baden Resort. We then had a lovely dinner at the 1875 Steakhouse. The next morning, we went off to the see the Louisville Concours d'Elegance, a wonderful car show with something for everyone. And thanks to the rainy weather, the entire show was moved indoors, so we were able to enjoy these fine cars while staying dry! There was a diverse showing of cars, from Model T's to the newest Corvette, along with a BMW Z1 in mint-condition with only 8000 miles!

One of the most common sources of front-end vibrationsshimmy or wobble is control arm bushings that have become worn. Front control arm bushings (FCAB) and reartrailing arm bushings (RTAB) absorb the vehicle’s front-rearloading during acceleration, braking, cornering and steadyhighway driving. With the previous day’s rain showers, even the gravel drive leading to the winery was virtually dust-free! It was an amazing evening of Bavarian food, Indiana wine, and entertainment from Jay Fox and the Bavarian Band! We even had some new “Chicken Dance” participants this year.
