From the Principal…. Thursday, 18 February 2016 – Issue 2.
MARKET NIGHT SUCCESS! What a fabulous night we had on Monday with our Market Night! All of the elements required for a successful event came together with ideal weather conditions, a great crowd, plenty of community support from local businesses, a hard working team of parents and staff and fun activities available. My sincere thanks go firstly to Erin McGill for her outstanding coordination of the evening and the many parents who assisted Erin. Thanks also to the stall holders and community groups who supported us with donations and stalls, to my incredible staff who always rise to the occasion when help is required and to our school community for supporting us with their attendance and general support of what has become a favourite event on our school calendar. I’m very pleased to say that after costs we made just over $2000 which will go towards the installation of new playgrounds at both our Rollins and Batesford campuses. Well done again to the entire Rollins community!
SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTION Nomination forms for School Council are available from the office from next Monday, 22 February. There are 3 Parent vacancies and anyone interested should return a nomination form to the school by Monday, 7 March 2016. Parent members whose two year term is coming to an end are Darrin McKiernan, Leanne Mulroyan and Tracey Marshall. Both Darrin and Leanne, who still have children attending Rollins PS, are eligible for nomination again. If you have any questions about the School Council election process please do not hesitate to contact me at the school on 5278 3022.
STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE Whilst we do not endorse or promote insurance companies we do pass on relevant information to our parents. This week EBM Insurance Brokers are offering twelve months cover for $29. For more details please go to www.studentcover.com.au It is important to note that neither the school nor the Department of Education offer student accident insurance.
NEWSLETTER DISTRIBUTION LIST
If you would like to make sure you receive the newsletter via an
email notification please provide your email address to Sandy in
the office and we will add you to our distribution list. Families on
the distribution list will not receive a hard copy of the newsletter
each fortnight which saves costs to the school and helps the
environment. More and more of our families are taking up this
offer and we encourage you to consider this option if you have an
email address.
PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS
In the coming weeks you will receive information regarding the
upcoming Parent-Teacher interviews. The interviews are
scheduled for Tuesday, 22 March between 2.00pm and 7.00pm. It
is important to note that interview times will be filled on a “First in
– first served” basis so it pays to return your slip as soon as
possible. These interviews provide an ideal opportunity for
parents and teachers to meet and discuss how the students have
started school and plan for how we can best work together to
support your child for the rest of the school year.
PUBLIC HOLIDAYS – Advance Notice
Please note that the following dates are Public Holidays and as a
result the school will be closed:
Monday, 14 March – Labour Day. Friday, 25 March – Good Friday.
PUPIL FREE DAY – Monday, 11 April
Please note that Monday, 11 April (the first day of Term 2) will be
a Pupil Free Day to allow for a staff professional learning day. The
focus of this learning for staff will be ‘Building Student Resilience’.
We have been able to engage the highly acclaimed presenter
Andrew Fuller and the day should be beneficial staff in their
efforts to build student confidence and self-esteem.
EASTER RAFFLE
In the next newsletter we will provide information about our
annual Easter Raffle. Our school community always provides
amazing support for this event and we look forward to your
continuing support this year.
